Product Information

The Precis-IonTM Air Ion Counter Model AIC3Pro is a Gerdien condenser air ion meter. It measures the electrical charge from air ions (charged air molecules) by drawing air with a blower. The air ion count is then calculated and displayed.

• Do not block the air intake as it will affect measurements.
• Avoid using plastics, adhesives, labels, or stickers near the intake or in front of the meter. Non-conductive materials or ungrounded conductive materials can build up a static charge, which affects correction measurements.
• Do not block the air outlet.

The AIC3Pro comes with a USB port and a Micro SD card for data recording. It also features a rechargeable Li battery that provides approximately 7 hours of continuous operation. The meter can be charged using the supplied USB cable/charger or via a USB port on a PC, laptop, or USB power pack. The meter can also be operated indefinitely while charging. Air ion measurements can be recorded on the user-accessible Micro SD card. The recorded data includes date /time-stamped air ion levels, temperature, and humidity in a standard spreadsheet format. Recording intervals are selectable, and the recording can be started or stopped by pressing the Menu button. Proper grounding is important for accurate readings. At high ion levels, such as those generated by ionizers, the AIC3Pro must be grounded using the included 10ft. ground cable. At lower levels, holding the meter without the kickstand maintains sufficient ground reference, provided your body doesn’t build up a static charge. Occasionally touching a pipe or screw on a light switch plate will ensure accurate readings. Be cautious about static electricity when connecting the meter to a desktop or laptop PC. Properly ground the meter before connecting to avoid potential damage to the AIC3Pro and/or the computer. The AIC3Pro has a main display that shows the polarity indicator, peak ion count, air ion count, averaging interval, battery life indicator, and selected range (2 million or 200 million). It also has a dual display mode that shows both ion polarities side-by-side with the same scale setting. The SUM feature adds the total number of positive and negative air ions and displays the cumulative count. The AIC3Pro is equipped with shortcut and navigation buttons for selecting ion polarity, dual read mode, power on/off, setting the meter to standby/idle, zeroing any offset value, moving the cursor up or down, and accessing the menu.

Product Usage Instructions

1. Ensure that the air intake is not blocked during operation.
2. Avoid using plastics, adhesives, labels, or stickers near the intake or in front of the meter.
3. Do not block the air outlet.
4. To charge the AIC3Pro, connect it to a power source using the supplied USB cable/charger or via a USB port on a PC, laptop, or USB power pack. The meter can be operated while charging.
5. To record air ion measurements, insert a Micro SD card into the designated slot. The recorded data will include date/time-stamped air ion levels, temperature, and humidity. Set the recording intervals and start/stop recording using the Menu button.
6. Ensure proper grounding of the AIC3Pro for accurate readings. Use the included ground cable to connect the meter to a standard wall outlet (mains), ESD mats, or metal water pipes.
7. Before connecting the meter to a desktop or laptop PC, properly ground the meter to remove static electricity.
8. Read the main display to view the polarity indicator, peak ion count, air ion count, averaging interval, battery life indicator, and selected range.
9. Use the dual display mode to view both ion polarities side-by-side and the cumulative count.

The AIC3Pro comes with a table-top kickstand as a 3-in-1 combination accessory.

OVERVIEW

The Precis-Ion™ Air Ion Counter Model AIC3Pro is a Gerdien condenser air ion meter. During operation, a blower draws air, and the electrical charge from air ions (charged air molecules) is measured. The air ion count is calculated and displayed.

Charging the AIC3Pro: The AIC3Pro’s rechargeable Li battery typically provides 7 hours of continuous operation. The meter may be charged with the supplied USB cable/charger. The meter may also be charged via a USB port on a PC, laptop, or USB power pack. The meter can be operated indefinitely while charging.
Data Recording: Air ion measurements can be recorded on the supplied (user-accessible) Micro SD card. Date/time-stamped air Ion levels, temperature, and humidity are recorded in a standard spreadsheet format. Recording intervals are selectable. Press “Menu” to access recording start/stop.
Grounding the AIC3Pro: At high ion levels, such as those generated by ionizers, the ground cable must be used. At lower levels, holding the meter (with the kickstand removed) maintains sufficient ground reference, provided that your body doesn’t build up a static charge. Occasionally touching a pipe or the screw on a light switch plate will ensure accurate readings.

A 10ft. (3 meters) ground cable is included, with connectors for grounding (earthing) the AIC3Pro to a standard wall outlet (mains), ESD mats, or metal water pipes.

Warning! Be sure static electricity is removed by properly grounding the meter prior to connecting to desktop or laptop PC. Failing to do so may damage the AIC3Pro and/or the computer!

The AIC3Pro Air Ion Counter features a bright backlit display.

Reading the Dual Display

This mode allows for the measurement and display of both ion polarities side- by-side, with the same scale setting. At the same time, the SUM feature adds the total number of positive and negative air ions and displays the cumulative count.

Button Functions and Menu
The AIC3Pro features short-cut and navigation buttons:

Main Menu:
Press the Menu (Enter) button to access the main menu. From this screen, use the up/down arrow buttons to highlight, select, and change meter settings. For more information on menus and settings, see AIC3Pro Manual.

Using the Static Shield:
Use the included static shield to minimize electric field interference when measuring ions at low levels (x10³) 2 million scale. Simply slide the shield over the top of the meter until it seats firmly. This shield must be removed when measuring high ion levels (200 million scale).

AlphaApp Windows PC Software Utility:
To download the AlphaApp data logging software utility, go to: https://www.alphalabinc.com/alphaapp. Once the software is installed, connect the AIC3Pro via the included USB cable. With AlphaApp, previously recorded data, or live streaming data can be saved and plotted.
