DRIVER BACK Retractable Bit Lanyard System

Product Information

The Driverback Lanyard System is a tool designed to keep your bits organized and easily accessible while using an impact driver. It features various storage trays, extension drill bit holders, and an adjustable rear strap for a secure fit. The system is specifically designed for impact drivers and is not suitable for cordless drills.

Product Usage Instructions

1. Step 1. Let’s get it on
2. Grasp your Driverback.
3. Wrap it around the body of your impact driver, noting the tabs.
4. Choose one of seven removable front straps using either of the following options:
5. Eyeball the length between the two tabs.
6. Follow the easy instructions on the enclosed Front Strap Selection Guide.
7. Align the post on the lettered front strap with the hole on the base and slide the hole of the base onto the lettered strap. Twist to lock into place.
8. Repeat the previous step for the opposite side.
9. Your Driverback is now ready to be installed onto your impact driver.
10. Side Step. Make tacos. (Optional, but recommended.)

2. To insert a bit, pull the bit straight out towards the driver’s head and insert it as you would a standard impact-rated driver bit.
3. Pull it straight out after releasing the quick-release chuck and guide it back to the magnetic storage tray to remove a bit. Note: Do not leave the bit engaged when the impact driver is not in use.
4. Step 3. Replacing the Bit Cartridge
5. Ensure that the fixed front strap rests on the underside of the driver in front of the trigger, ensuring the system sits level on the driver.
6. Tighten the adjustable rear strap by hand or using small needle-nose pliers. Be careful not to deform raised ridges on the strap.
7. Secure the rear strap under the motor vents at the rear of the impact driver. Tuck the excess strap under the cartridges.
8. Gently pull up on the rear cover of the bit cartridge you want to replace. Note: Do not pull on the back cap, as this may damage the bit lanyard.
9. Slide/guide the white lanyard through the slot towards the back of the impact driver by gently grasping the lanyard tab or bit to remove the cartridge carefully.
10. Replace the bit cartridge with the one you need. Slide the cartridge through the guide slot and snap the back cap in place.

Think of it as “ready, aim, shoot” instead of “shoot, ready aim.”

Let’s get it on

1. A. Grasp your Driverback.
2. B. Wrap it around the body of your impact driver. Note the tabs.
3. C. Choose one of seven remov-able front straps using one of two options: (1) “Eyeball” the length be-tween the two tabs or (2) follow the easy instructions on the enclosed Front Strap Selection Guide.

Check the front strap

Ensure that the fixed front strap rests on the underside of the driver in front of the trigger. Make sure the system sits level on the driver.

Tighten the rear strap

Tighten the adjustable rear strap can be done by hand or by using small needle nose pliers. Be careful not to deform raised ridges on the strap.

Secure the excess strap

Secure rear strap under the motor vents at the rear of the impact driver. The excess strap should be tucked under the cartridges.

Inserting and Removing Bits

Note : DO NOT leave bit engaged when impact driver is not in use.

Insert the bit

Pull the bit straight out towards the driver head and insert the bit as you would a standard impact rated driver bit.

Remove the bit

• To remove the bit, pull it straight out after releasing the quick release chuck and guide the bit back to the magnetic storage tray.
• You are now “Always Ready For Your Next Screw!” Operate your impact driver according to original equipment instructions.

Replacing the Bit Cartridge

Note : DO grasp the white lanyard tab or bit to gently guide the cartridge

• Gently pull up on rear cover of the bit cartridge you are going to replace.
  Note: DO NOT pull on the back cap, this will over extend the springs and potentially damage your bit lanyard.

• Slide/Guide the white lanyard through the slot towards the back of the impact driver by gently grasping the lanyard tab or bit to remove the cartridge carefully.

• Replace the bit cartridge with the bit cartridge you need. Slide cartridge through the guide slot and snap back cap in place.
  PRO TIP : Now might be a good time to refresh your drink!

Removing the Driverback

• The rear strap is a releasable cable tie.
• The built-in locking tab can be disengaged, allowing the tail end of the tie to be pulled free from the head.
• Simply use a small slotted screwdriver or your fingernail to lift up on the tab to release the cable tie.

Using Your Brand of Torsion Bits

Many impact rated torsion bits can be used with our modified blank lanyards. Blank lanyards are available on our website in single and multi-packs. Please note: DO NOT attempt to modify lanyards with bits already attached, like the ones that came in your kit.

Bits must have a large enough head to keep lanyard in place and a torsion area .

FAQs

What is the white part made of? If it’s like a rubber band, won’t it get twisted around the bit when it spins?
The white lanyard is made of TPE, short for thermoplastic polyester elastomer. We chose this plastic because it is not only durable but lightweight, flexible and fatigue resistant. The lanyard is ridged which allows the bit to spin freely while in use. It will not twist or tangle while engaged and the bit spins.

Can I use this on my drill?
Our system is specifically for impact drivers, hence the name DRIVERback. There are a few reasons why:

• The longer nose of drills extends quite far forward. Although our spring system is durable, it has its limits when it comes to extending.
• The quick release chuck on impact drivers compared to having to chuck up a bit on drills defeats the purpose of quickly moving from one bit to another.
• Driverback sits on top of the motor body which hinders the functionality of the speed dial on a drill.

Can I use my own bits?
In many cases, yes. We know many tend to be brand specific with their tools, bits included. We get it! We offer blank lanyards on our website. These can be snapped onto many bits but please note they must have a torsion area. Our manual includes the specifics, and you can find additional details on our website.

Will adding Driverback overheat the motor on my impact?
No, there is sufficient venting. The design of the Driverback base includes molded, curved spacers that allow the Driver back to rest of the motor body for sufficient airflow while keeping your Driverback securely attached to your impact driver.

Is it durable?
Yes. We have had guys accidentally drop their impact from man lifts and off buildings. If anything, it helps keep your impact safe. Think of it as a little life vest or bubble suit. Wouldn’t you rather destroy an accessory than your expensive impact driver. While we don’t recommend it, we ran over a Driverback with a damn near 30,000 lb. Caterpillar 938G and it still worked. Our system is not only durable, it has been proven to protect your impact driver from accidental falls.

Is the bit lanyard replaceable?
Yes, we offer replacement blank lanyards and a variety of bit lanyards on our website.

Are your bits impact-rated?
Yes, our bits are made of hardened A2 steel.

Updates made to our system:

• Widened storage trays on two of the four cartridge cylinders. This allows larger bits like the nut drivers to rest more comfortably when not in use.
• Doubled the strength of the magnets. This allows for a better grip while resting on a storage tray when not in use.
• Doubled the strength of the nested spring system.
• This allows for quicker retraction of the bit once disengaged from the quick-release chuck to return to its storage tray.
• Added two 3” bit holders. This was a request by Evan, a tradesman who uses our system. He uses longer extension bits at times and saw an opportunity to add a couple to Driverback, so we had it added to the updated design.
• Redesigned back caps (we made them less of a donut shape and more streamlined. This keeps them from getting caught up and popping off while working. We also slightly adjusted the size, so they snap on the cartridge cylinder and are more securely held in place.
• Created a packet of different-length interchangeable front straps. This allows your Driverback to be changed out from one impact to another without needing to purchase a Driverback specifically for your other impact models.

The DRIVERBACK lanyard system is designed to store four impact-rated bits attached to independent lanyards housed in magnetic holding trays for quick release/easy storage. The patented Driverback system now includes two 3-inch bit holders for when an extension bit may be necessary

• FOR BEST RESULTS: Follow the impact driver manufacturers’ installation, operation, and safety instructions. Use common sense.
• FOR WORST RESULTS: Use driver bits as a pry bar. Leave bits engaged in the chuck when not in use. Submerge in water/allow to rust. Wear white socks with sandals. Don’t read the instruction manual, be a man.

LIMITED WARRANTY

DRIVERBACK warranties this product against breakage due to defects in material or workmanship provided that the product is used in a manner consistent with these instructions. This warranty does not cover failures due to abuse, accidental damage or when repairs have been made or attempted by anyone other than DRIVERBACK. This warranty does not cover normal wear & tear on bits from normal use. Bits are considered consumables and are not covered by a warranty. DRIVERBACK reserves the right to inspect all warranty claims before replacementsare issued.
