Product Usage Instructions
- Step 1: Prepare the Surface
- Ensure the surface is clean and free from any dirt or debris.

No matter what the plans are for your basement: extra storage, a “man cave”, or a laundry room, dry and bright is a perfect start. DRYLOK® Masonry Waterproofer is a proven brand for stopping water, decorating, and beautifying your space.
STEP 1: PREPARE THE SURFACE
- Clean the surface thoroughly with a wire brush to remove any loose or broken mortar and dirt from the surface. If you see white powdery salt-like deposits (efflorescence) it must be removed.
- Treat efflorescence by washing with a solution of DRYLOK® Etch® or muriatic acid according to the manufacturer’s directions, rinse, and allow to dry. Since efflorescence occurs naturally, we cannot warrant against recurring efflorescence. If efflorescence is not present, proceed to Step 2.
- If using DRYLOK® Floor & Wall Masonry Waterproofer on floors, remember to vacuum any dirt, dust, or remnants.
STEP 2: PATCH CRACKS AND HOLES
Fill all holes and cracks with DRYLOK® Fast Plug®. Wet down the surface to be
patched and back chisel the area, to the shape of an inverted “V” This allows
the patch to lock into the surface and cure properly. Fast Plug® sets in 3 to
5 minutes so only mix enough patch to be used in 3 to 5 minutes. Seal the
floor wall joint. When patching, don’t forget the area where the floor and
wall meet.
STEP 3: APPLY DRYLOK®
Stir DRYLOK® thoroughly before and during application. Apply to bare masonry
using a ¾-inch nap roller, DRYLOK® Brush, or good quality nylon bristle brush.
DRYLOK® can also be sprayed using a high-powered sprayer (visit
drylok.com).
If rolled or sprayed, back-brush the first coat to fill any pinholes in the
masonry. DRYLOK® must be worked into the
pores of the masonry, making sure to fill all pores and pinholes. Proper
coverage is important for waterproofing, be sure to read coverage statements
on the product label. A minimum of two coats is required for all formulas of
DRYLOK®, check warranty statements. Allow the DRYLOK® to dry between coats
following the label instructions.
After you have inspected the entire area for pinholes, you may have to apply
additional coats to have complete coverage.
