EMERSON 535-2711 Termination Blocks Modbus

Product Information

The product in question is a termination block offered by Emerson. It is designed to be used with third-party devices that do not have termination capabilities or do not supply the required termination resistance. Emerson provides different termination blocks for terminating MODBUS network endpoints and Echelon network endpoints.

The following termination blocks are available:

Part Number Description Use For Termination Resistance (Ohms)
535-2711 MODBUS Termination Block Terminating MODBUS network endpoints 150

ohms
535-2715| Echelon Termination Block| Terminating Echelon network endpoints| 105 ohms
535-2710| OBSOLETE| N/A| 52.5 ohms

Product Usage Instructions

  1. Consult the manufacturer’s instructions for termination information of third-party devices.
  2. If the devices do not have termination capabilities or do not supply the required termination resistance, you can use Emerson termination blocks.
  3. If you need to terminate MODBUS network endpoints, use the MODBUS Termination Block (P/N 535-2711). The required termination resistance for all E2, E3, or Site Supervisor RS485 networks is 150 ohms. Do not use 120-ohm termination even if it is supplied with the end-of-line device.
  4. If you need to terminate Echelon network endpoints, use the Echelon Termination Block (P/N 535-2715). The required termination resistance is 105 ohms.
  5. Connect the termination block to the end device on the daisy chain using a network cable with a length of six inches or less (refer to Figure 2).
  6. Optionally, if recommended, connect the shield wire to earth’s ground. Keep the exposed shield wire length as short as possible, with a maximum length of three inches.

Installation Instructions

  • Third-party devices may or may not have onboard termination jumpers (consult the manufacturer’s instructions for termination information). For devices that have no termination capabilities or do not supply the required termination resistance, Emerson offers termination blocks that can be used.
  • To terminate MODBUS network endpoints, use P/N 535-2711; 150-ohm termination is required for all E2, E3 or Site Supervisor RS485 networks (do not use 120-ohm termination even if supplied with the end-of-line device). To terminate Echelon network endpoints, use P/N 535-2715.
  • Wire the termination block across the RS485 + and RS485 – terminals of the end device on the daisy chain.
  • Connect the block to the end device on the daisy chain using six inches or less of wire from the network cable used for the daisy chain (Figure 2), and optionally if recommended, connect the shield wire to earth ground, keeping the exposed shield wire length as short as possible (three inches ideal maximum length).
