Safety notices
Please read these operating instructions carefully. If you have any questions,
get in touch with our Service Dept. by calling our Service Hotline at 0180 5
00 13 88. Under no circumstances should you open the device or attempt to
repair the device yourself.
Please contact your dealer in case of any warranty claims.
Intended use
This answering machine is designed for use connected to an analogue telephone
line (PSTN) in Germany. However, due to differences in the services provided
by the various telecommunications providers, we cannot guarantee that the
telephone will work properly when connected to all telecommunications terminal
lines. The answering machine is prepared for connection to a TAE phone jack
with F/N coding and can be used together with telephones with F coding. Plug
the connecting phone cable only into the telephone plug socket provided for
this purpose. Do not replace the plug of the connecting phone cable.
Batterie
The use of other rechargeable batteries or accupacks may cause a short-
circuit. When changing the batterie, use a 9V alkaline block-type battery.
Do not throw batteries in the fire or immerse them in water. Do not dispose of
old or defective batteries with normal domestic waste.
Location of the base station
The base station must be located within reach of a 230Volt supply socket. To
avoid interference problems, do not place the base station in the immediate
proximity of other electronic equipment such as a microwave oven or hi-fi
system. The location of the base station can significantly influence the
proper function of the telephone.
Place the base station on a level, non-slip surface. The feet of the base
station will not normally mark the surface on which it stands. However, the
wide range of surface finishes in use renders it impossible to exclude marking
of any surface.
Do not use the handset in areas where there is a danger of explosion.
Avoid excessive exposure to smoke, dust, vibration, chemicals, humidity, high
temperature or direct sunlight.
Transformer plug
Use only the AUDIOLINE transformer plug supplied, other transformer plugs can
destroy your telephone. Opening the power supply plug while it is plugged into
the supply mains could lead to personal injury and death.
Disposal
If the batteries or the complete system have reached the end of their useful
life, please dispose of them in an environmentally friendly manner and as
required by law.
Temperature and ambient conditions
The telephone is designed for indoor use and an operating temperature range of
10 °C to 30 °C.
The base station must not be installed in humid areas such as bath or wash
rooms.
Avoid proximity to sources of heat such as radiators and do not expose the
unit to direct sunlight.
Cleaning and care
The outer surfaces of the unit can be cleaned with a soft, dry, lint-free
cloth. Never use cleaning agents or aggressive solvents. Apart from
occasionally cleaning the outer surfaces, no further care is required. The
rubber feet of the base station are not resistant to all cleaning agents. The
manufacturer cannot, therefore, be held responsible for damage to furniture
etc.
CE marking
The telephone is compliant with the essential requirements of the R&TTE
Directive.
This is certified by the CE marking.

one telephone connection cable | one Operating Manual |
3.3 Fitting the battery (not included)
Before connecting your new answering machine to the telephone network, the
battery should be fitted. Please always use a new 9V alkaline block-type
battery. The battery is required for preventing loss of data if there should
be a mains power failure.
Note: When the message bL appears in the display, the battery is run down
and must be changed.
- Make sure that the answering machine is not connected to the telephone network.
- The battery compartment is to be found on the underside of your answering machine.

3.4 Connecting the telephone cable and power supply
Connect the small plug of the telephone cable supplied to the telephone socket
on the rear of the answering machine and connect the other end to your TAE
socket (code N = for additional equipment such as answering machine /
telefax). Plug the power supply into a properly installed mains socket and
the other end into the socket on the rear of the answering machine.
When switching on for the first time, your new answering machine needs a few
seconds to initialise all the functions. After initialisation, the display
will show the message 00. If no battery has been fitted, this alternates with
the message bL.
As your answering machine saves the current day of the week and the time of
day with every message, the day and time announcement should now be set up as
described in the next chapter.
3.5 Setting the day and time announcement
The answering machine always saves the day of the week and the time of day
with each recorded message so that you always know when callers left their
messages.

- Confirm with the button and the complete day and time announcement will be repeated.
The day and time announcement can be checked at any time. Simply press
the button and you will hear the day of the week and the current time
of day.
Note:
If there is a pause of more than 20 seconds while entering the day and time
announcement, the programming will be interrupted.
If no battery has been fitted or if the battery is discharged, the day and
time announcement must be re-entered if there should happen to be a power
failure.
Operation
4.1 Use the standard greeting
For your greeting message, you can either make use of the standard greeting
recorded by a male or female or you can record your own message with a length
of up to 60 seconds. If you do not record a message of your own, the standard
greeting will be used automatically.
Wording of the standard greeting (German):
In order to switch between the standard masculine and feminine greeting
messages, press the REC button twice in succession.
4.2 Recording your own greeting
Before recording your greeting, you should write down the text that you want
to record. The length of your own greeting must be at least 3 seconds and must
not exceed 60 seconds. The longer your greeting lasts, the less recording time
will be available for incoming messages. The maximum recording time is ca. 50
minutes. If your greeting lasts for 18 seconds, for example, then 49 minutes
and 42 seconds remain for incoming messages.
Example of a greeting message: “Hallo, this is 05432/1234. I am sorry but we
are not available to take your call at the moment. However, you can leave a
message if you wish. Please speak after the tone”.
Press and hold the button until you hear a signal tone.
Start your greeting directly after the signal tone. The display will show rA
during the recording. While recording, keep at a distance of ca. 15 cm from
the answering machine so that you can speak easily into the microphone on the
upper side.
Release the REC button after you have finished your greeting message.
The greeting will now be repeated automatically. The display will now show the
message PA. The volume can be adjusted by repeatedly pressing the two arrow
keys ▲and▼.
You can play back your greeting at any time by briefly pressing the REC
button.
4.3 Deleting your own greeting and reverting to the standard greeting
If you have recorded your own greeting, you can delete this and by doing so
revert to the pre-recorded greeting.
Press and hold the button for 2 seconds until you hear a signal tone. Your own
greeting will be deleted and you will hear the text of the pre-recorded
greeting in confirmation.
4.4 Setting up the answering machine
On the right side of the answering machine you will find a slide switch with
which you can set how many times the phone rings before incoming calls are
answered.
2 | The call will be answered after 2 rings. |
---|---|
6 | The call will be answered after 6 rings. |
TS | In the “TS” position, the first call will be answered after 6 rings and |
all further calls will be answered after 2 rings. Furthermore, with the switch in this position, you can make use of the toll-free remote access facility. Details will be found in Chapter 5.2.
4.5 General operation
4.5.1 Switch On/Off
The answering machine can be switched off (standby) or on using the button. If
the answering machine is switched off, the display shows the message — for
standby and no messages will be recorded.
4.5.2 Select maximum length for incoming messages
The maximum length for incoming messages is 60 seconds. You can switch between
60 and 120 seconds by means of a small slide switch on the right-hand side.
If the caller speaks for longer, a signal tone sounds and the call will be cut
off. If there is a pause of more than 7 seconds during recording, the call is
automatically terminated with a signal tone. No more calls will be answered if
the memory capacity for new messages is exhausted and the message Su will
appear in the display.
4.5.3 Listening to incoming messages
The integral loudspeaker makes it possible to listen in to incoming calls
without speaking to the caller. If you do not want to listen in to the
incoming calls, set the volume right down by repeatedly pressing the arrow
button.
4.5.4 Interrupting the answering machine
You can personally intervene at any time while the caller is dictating his
message.
Simply lift the receiver. The answering machine will stop and you can speak
directly to the caller.
4.6 Listening to messages
The display shows the total number of messages recorded including notes (MEMO)
and recorded telephone calls. If the display is flashing, new messages have
been recorded during your absence that you have not yet listened to.
4.6.1 Play
Press the button once. If the display is flashing, your answering machine will
now first play back the newly recorded messages. If the LED is not flashing,
all recorded messages that you have not yet deleted will be played back. If
no messages have been saved, you will hear several signal tones.
If you want to break off listening to the messages, press the button. By
pressing the button again, you can resume listening. Listening to messages is
terminated with the button. After the last message has been played, the unit
responds with two signal tones.
4.7 Recording Notes
With your answering machine you can leave messages for other people who use
your answering machine, e.g. your family. These messages can be listened to
later using the button.
Press and hold the button.

“Hallo Thomas, you will find your meal in the fridge. I will be back at 10
o’clock”.
When you have finished your message, simply release the button.
The display will flash and will show a further message.
4.8 Recording telephone calls
You can record a telephone call that you are in the process of making. In this
way, you can listen to details of the call again later.
During the call, press the button. The display will show 2r and your answering
machine will now record the call.
Press the button again to finish recording.
The recorded call can be played back with the button.
4.9 Using the answering machine as a greeting service
The slide switch “REC. – GREETING ONLY” can be found on the rear of your
answering machine. This switch is normally in the “REC.” position and callers
will be able to leave messages.
In the “GREETING ONLY” position, it is not possible for the user to leave a
message.
In this way, you can use your answering machine as a greeting service. The
caller will hear your recorded message and the call will be automatically
terminated.
Please use a small screw driver to change the setting.
NOTE: If you have selected the “GREETING ONLY” function, you must record
your own greeting message with a special text. Draw the caller’s attention to
the fact that he is unable to leave a message. It is not possible to use the
standard greeting message.
Remote access
5.1 Remote access authorisation code
Your answering machine has personal access authorisation (Remote Code) so that
only you can listen to incoming messages using the remote access facility. The
authorisation code is a three-digit number and can be found on the underside
of your unit (Remote Code).
5.2 Toll-free remote pre-access
Using the toll-free remote pre-access facility, you can find out whether there
are any messages on your answering machine without incurring any charges.
Set the slide control to the “TS” position. If you now call your machine when
you are away, the answering machine answers as follows:
A. If your call is answered after 2 rings, there are messages on your
answering machine and you can continue as described under 5.3.
B. If no messages have been recorded, your call will not be answered after 2
rings.
Put the receiver down directly after the third ring as your answering machine
will switch on as normal after the sixth ring. In this way, you can save call
