User instructions for filters

Applications

Type A (brown colour code) protects against organic gases and vapours, such as solvents, with boiling points above +65 °C.
Type B (grey colour code) protects against inorganic gases and vapours, such as chlorine, hydrogen sulphate and hydrogen cyanide.
Type E (yellow colour code) protects against acid gases and vapours, such as Sulphur dioxide and hydrogen fluoride.
Type K (green colour code) protects against ammonia and certain amines, such as ethylene diamine.
Type Hg (red colour code) protects against mercury vapours. Warning.
Maximum use time 50 hours.
**Type P3 R*** (white colour code) protects against all types of particles.

  • R=Re-useable: The filter is intended to be used for more than a single shift.
The filters are made of materials that are not liable to give rise to sparking when subjected to friction, which enables the filters to be used in an explosive or fire-hazardous environment
Combined filters and filters for fan unit SR 500/SR 500 EX/SR 700

    • In environments containing both gases and particles, e.g. in spray painting, gas and particle filters must be fitted together into a combined filter. Press the filters together so that the arrows on the particle filter point towards the gas filter.
    • Fan unit SR 500/SR 500 EX must always be used with two particle filters or with two combined filters.
    • Fan unit SR 700 must always be used with two particle filters.

Mounting the filters in fan unit SR 500/SR 500 EX/SR 700
See the user instructions for the fan unit.
Changing the filter
Filters are consumables with a limited service life. A filter with visible damage must immediately be scrapped.
Particle filters
The particle filter is a mechanical filter that, unlike electrostatic filters, becomes more efficient the longer it is used. Change the filter after 2–4 weeks or earlier if the breathing resistance becomes uncomfortable.
Electrostatic particle filters are not marketed by Sundstrom. Fan unit SR 500/SR 500 EX/SR 700 provides a warning when the filter is clogged.
Gas filter/combined filter
Replacement of the gas filter/combined filter depends on several factors such as type of contaminant, concentration, work rate, humidity and temperature. The filters should be replaced at the latest when there is an indication of Odour or taste.
Pre-filter
The useful life of the main filter can be appreciably increased if Prefilter SR 221 is changed frequently – at least once per working day.
N.B. The pre-filter cannot replace the particle filter.
Use, storage and cleaning

  • The operating temperature is between -10 and +55 °C at an ambient relative humidity below 90 %.
  • A filter in unopened packaging can be stored at a temperature between -20 and +40°C at an ambient relative humidity below 90 %.
  • An opened filter is best stored in a clean and dry place at room temperature, e.g. in a plastic bag.
  • Use a damp cloth of water to wipe the filter on the outside. For disinfection, use 70% ethanol or isopropanol solution instead of water.

Warnings

  • Do not use a filter respirator if there is risk of insufficient oxygen.
  • Filter protection must not be used with supplied oxygen or oxygen enriched air.
  • A gas filter provides protection only against gases/vapours. A particle filter provides protection only against particles.
  • A filter respirator must not be used against unknown pollutants or pollutants that represent an immediate danger to life and health (IDLH).
  • Stop the work and leave the work area if you feel discomfort in the form of dizziness or nausea or if you can smell or taste the pollutants.
  • Never modify the mask or filter.
  • Storage of filters outside the recommended temperature range and/ or ambient relative humidity may  affect the filters shelf life negatively.
  • The use of gas or combined filters during work with open flames or liquid metal droplets may cause serious risk due to the ignition of the charcoal containing filters which  may generate acute levels of toxic substances.
  • All filters should be disposed of as hazardous waste in accordance with national waste disposal regulations.
  • If the filter is used in an explosive atmosphere,  ensure all equipment used with the filter is also suitable for the environment.
