Husqvarna PE 10H Smart Guard Helmet Instruction Manual
Introduction
Product description
These safety helmet systems are items of personal protective equipment
(PPE). PE 10H is a combination of helmet, hearing protection and visor,
suitable for general construction work, while PE 10H Smartguard also includes
a chin guard intended for use with powercutters.
The helmet absorbs blows and distributes the impact of falling objects from above. It does not provide protection against side impacts.
The hearing protection provides some noise reduction.
The visor offers some protection for the eyes.
The chin guard offers some protection to the lower face area that can reduce the risk of laceration in the event of a kickback.
PE 10H SmartGuard is comprised of several systems that together reduce the risk of lacerations in certain kickback events. Operators must read, understand and follow all instructions provided on the product and in operator’s manuals. It is the operator’s responsibility to use equipment properly and avoid kickbacks. No personal protective equipment (PPE) can offer full protection against injury

WARNING: No PPE can offer full protection against injury.
WARNING: The chin strap is not fulfilling release requirements specified
in EN 397:2012+A1:2012. The chin strap releases at a force above 250 N
- The helmet provides limited protection by reducing the impact of force from small objects striking or penetrating the top of the shell. It is not designed to provide front, rear or side impact or penetration more than light bumps to those areas. THE HELMET CAN NOT PROTECT YOU FROM SUFFERING SEVERE NECK, HEAD OR BRAIN INJURY, PARALYSIS OR DEATH IN THE EVENT OF A SIGNIFICANT FORCE OR IMPACT.
- Avoid contact with electric wires.
- For adequate protection this helmet must fit or be adjusted to the size of the user’s head.
- The helmet is made to absorb the energy of a blow by partial destruction or damage to the shell and the harness, and even though such damage may not be readily apparent, any helmet subjected to severe impact should be replaced.
Safety instructions for hearing protection
WARNING: No PPE can offer full protection against injury.
WARNING: Hearing protectors can block out warning cries, alarms or other
important signals. Always pay extra attention to surroundings when wearing
hearing protectors
- The noise attenuation of the product will be severely impaired if you do not follow the instructions in this operator’s manual.
- The wearer should ensure that the ear-muffs are worn at all times in noisy environments.

- Do not use the visor if it has scratches, is damaged or dirty. Replace the visor to decrease the risk of injury.
- Eye protectors against high speed particles, worn over standard ophthalmic spectacles, may transmit impacts, thus creating a hazard to the wearer.
- If protection against high speed particles at extremes temperatures is required then the visor shall be marked with the letter T immediately after the impact letter, for example FT, BT, AT. If the impact letter is not followed by the letter T, then the safety glasses shall only be used against high speed particles at room temperature.
Safety instructions for the chin guard
WARNING: Kickback can occur suddenly and unexpectantly. Kickback can
result in serious injury or death.
WARNING: The chin guard cannot offer full protection against injury.
WARNING: If using a power cutter blade with large slits (+7mm) between
the blade segments there is a risk that the blade get stuck in the chin guard
- The chin guard may not provide protection to the user under all circumstances, especially not injuries caused by impacts from the power cutter. The chin guard has been tested to provide some protection to the lower face area that can reduce the risk of laceration in the event of a kickback.
- Make sure the chin guard is attached and maintained in accordance with this operator’s manual.
- The chin guard is only compatible with personal protective equipment (PPE) specified in this operator’s manual.

Chin guard
The chin guard has been tested to provide some protection to the lower face
area that can reduce the risk of laceration in the event of a kickback
according to test method Method 5702:2022, with approval for usage in low
temperatures (-30°C). This also means that the whole system of PE 10H
SmartGuard with all system parts have been tested and approved for usage in
low temperatures (-30°C) according to Method 5702:2022. Note that the visor
has been tested in a different temperature interval according to the personal
eye protection standard EN 166:2001. Refer to Visor On Above.
The chin guard has been tested in a simulated kick-back with a power cutter corresponding to:
- Output power: 3.7 KW
- Weight: 11 kg
- Max blade speed before kickback: 4200 rpm (Due to the impacting break force on the blade in the event of a kickback the remaining blade speed when potentially reaching an operator is lower: 3300 rpm).
- Blade: Husqvarna Varicut S45 14
This has resulted in input values to Method 5702:2022of an impact energy of 36,6 Joule and blade speed of 3300 rpm
Note: Kick-back is an unpredictable event and the reactive forces involved can differ significantly. No PPE can offer full protection against injury
Notified body has approved that test method and result fulfill applicable requirements in PPE regulation. Notified body involved in the conformity assessment is:
