Introduction

The GS800D is QYT’s most recent GMRS product. This one has been in my possession for about a week, and I’ve already used it on a few local repeaters. Reports are positive, and the 20w mobile is doing admirably. The main chassis has a top-finned heat sink and a cooling fan in the back, and it weighs little less than one pound. Only when the chassis begins to get a little too warm does the fan start to run continuously.

A typical SO-239 connector is used to terminate the radio. The audio reports broadcast over the air were superb. Speaking across the front of the microphone and at one inch distance produced the greatest audio reports. Menu, MR/VFO, Lock, Power, Reverse, Scan, Up/Down, Channel, and DTMF tone selection are among the 16 keypad operations.

The receiver’s sensitivity is superb, and its 2W output offers a lot of loud, clear sounds. The GS800D’s display may show four frequencies, as demonstrated below. Any 2, 3, or 4 shown channels may be chosen for “on screen” scanning using the TMR option. The display will lock onto a chosen channel if it becomes active and stay there for a predetermined period of time before starting the search again.

When visiting a new location and unsure of which repeaters are the busiest, this is a convenient choice. Three to four channels are scanned every second.

There are nine distinct color combinations that can be selected for the Foreground and Background of the OLED* display (1 3/8 x 1 1/8″). Black, White, Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, Indigo, Purple, and Gray are available as colors, providing literally hundreds of possible color combinations. The new OLED display’s resolution, in my opinion, is fantastic. The display is exceptionally bright and clear regardless of color. Stop squinting now.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the range of a 50 watt GMRS radio?

The frequency range of a 50 watt GMRS radio is from 65 to 108 MHz

Are Rugged Radios GMRS?

For your upcoming journey, Rugged Radios offers a wide selection of dependable, long-range GMRS communications! Perfect for general communications, recreational UTV/SXS, Jeeps, and Toyota Tacomas.

How far will a 40 watt GMRS radio transmit?

A 40 watt GMRS radio can transmit to a range of about 65 mile.

Can you use GMRS without license?

Running a GMRS system requires an FCC license. Licenses are granted for ten years, and they may be renewed from 90 days before their expiration date to the day of expiration itself. When a license expires, the holder must apply for a new GMRS license.

Do GMRS radios need to be programmed?

The radios used for several radio services, such FRS, GMRS, CB, and MURS, must operate on specific frequencies and/or within specific constraints. As a result, the radios used for these services are typically pre-packaged and “hard coded” at the factory to comply with those criteria.

Can GMRS talk to CB?

Other consumer radio models cannot be used with FRS and GMRS radios. CB radios have their own assigned channels and frequencies and operate on the 11 meter AM band.

What is the strongest GMRS Channel?

Simply put, choose channels 1-7 or 15-22 for greatest power. Numerous power modes are supported by the majority of consumer radios. Make sure you are utilizing high power mode on the channels that let it to achieve the most range. Reduced range is caused by lower power modes, which do not utilise all of your radio’s potential output power.

Is GMRS a ham radio?

Although GMRS has fewer capabilities than ham radio, it is also less complicated and easier to use. GMRS radios never require you to fiddle with punching in frequencies because they use pre-programmed frequencies stored in channels. For the majority of GMRS handhelds, a mile is a reasonable maximum range.

How far can you talk on a GMRS radio?

The majority of GMRS radios use 1 to 5 watts of power. Their range is slightly greater than that of FRS radios, with common hand-held devices falling within a range of 1-2 miles. Some mobile devices with taller antennae have a 5 mile range.

Can two-way radios be tracked?

Two-way radios are challenging to find. Even after the development of cell phones, two-way radios, often known as walkie-talkies, continue to be widely used. They are used by the military, law enforcement, event planners, security personnel, and many others. It is incredibly tough to track down two-way radios.

What is the point of a GMRS license?

In order to “enable the activities of licensees and their immediate family members,” the FCC grants GMRS licenses. Therefore, only little family-run companies are eligible to use GMRS. The licensee and their immediate family are covered by a single license.

Who uses GMRS radios?

A licensed user and their extended family may utilize the mobile UHF two-way communication service known as GMRS, or General Mobile Radio Service, in the United States for private purposes. The general public without a license may also use this service, but only in times of emergency and natural catastrophes.

What is the most popular GMRS frequency?

Family Radio Service (FRS) and General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) radios both operate in a frequency spectrum between 462 and 467 MHz and are primarily handheld, portable devices.

What GMRS channel is for emergency?

The FCC does not designate a specific channel for this application, therefore legally, emergency calls could be carried on any GMRS channel, despite the fact that channel 20 is frequently mentioned as the emergency channel for GMRS.

What is better FRS or GMRS?

The FCC also issues licenses for the use of GMRS radios. They are more potent, which is part of the reason why. It is not possible to modify FRS walkie talkies so that their signal can be amplified to travel farther. However, GMRS radios can be upgraded to provide a signal that is at least 50 watts stronger and can travel further.
