BUILDING YOUR BIKE:

WHAT’S IN THE BOX?
To begin assembly of your new Raleigh bike; carefully open the box, remove the
packaging, and identify the parts by laying everything out.
You’ll find the bike frame, front wheel, and the following:
A multitool and pedal spanner are also included for assembly, the only thing you’ll need to supply is a 10mm spanner.
ASSEMBLING THE SEAT
Note: If you’re building a Willow or Sherwood your seat should already be
assembled and attached, you can skip this step.
Using the 6mm Allen key, loosen the bracket on the seat post so the top
section can spin 90 degrees.
Slide the saddle through the bracket and rotate the top section back to its original position and tighten, ensuring the clamp is in the middle of the saddle rails.
Stand the bike up and insert the seat post into the frame.
Tighten until secure using the 5mm Allen key on the multitool provided.
ASSEMBLING THE HANDLEBARS V1
Note: If you’re building a Strada X or Strada City, skip to Assembling
the Handlebars V2 (pg 4). If you’re building a Willow or Sherwood skip to V3
(pg 5).
Stand over the bike, securing it between your knees, and unbox the handlebars.
Remove the plastic cover on the base of the handlebar stem.
Make sure the forks are facing forward then insert the handlebars into the head tube with the brakes at the front.
Tighten the bolt at the top of the handlebar stem with the 6mm Allen key on the multitool.
ASSEMBLING THE HANDLEBARS V2
Note: For Strada X and Strada City bikes only.
Stand over the bike, securing it between your knees, and unbox the handlebars.
With a 4mm Allen key, unscrew the top cap.
Make sure the forks are facing forward then insert the handlebars into the
head tube with the brakes at the front.
Replace the top cap and bolt, tighten until you start to feel resistance and turn one more half turn.
Align handlebar stem with the front wheel and tighten the two side bolts below.
ASSEMBLING THE HANDLEBARS V3
Note: For Willow and Sherwood bikes only.
Make sure the forks are facing forward then, using the 6mm Allen key, loosen
the bolt on the top of the stem so that the stem will rotate side to side.
Align handlebar stem with the front wheel and re-tighten the bolt as much as
you can.
Loosen the bolt on the underside of the stem so that the handlebars will rotate up and down. Twist to a comfortable grip position and re-tighten the bolt.
You may also need to reposition the brake levers by loosening, rotating and re-tightening.
FITTING THE FRONT MUDGUARD
Note: If your bike has no mudguards, or the mudguards are already
attached to the frame, you can skip this step.
Remove the bolts and washers in the bottom of the fork stays, line up the
u-shaped end of the mudguard stays with the threaded fork eyelet and screw in.
Next, find the front reflector bracket, as well as the bolt, nut and washers
that secure the top of the mudguard and the reflector bracket to the top of
the fork.
Make sure the reflector bracket is facing the right way, and there is a washer
at each end of the bolt and nut. Secure with a 5mm Allen key in the bolt, and
a 10mm spanner on the nut.
ATTACHING THE FRONT WHEEL (QUICK RELEASE)
Note: If your box includes a quick release skewer (pictured below) please follow this step. If not, skip to the next page.
Unscrew the nutted end of skewer and insert through the middle of the disc
side of the wheel through to the other side. Screw the nut back on, half a
turn, so it’s attached but loose.
Make sure the direction of the tyre tread is the same as the rear wheel and
fit the wheel into the fork. The disc should be on the left of the bike, from
sitting on the saddle.
Hand tighten the skewer nut until you can fold the lever up with resistance.
You should feel significant resistance when folding and unfolding the lever.
ATTACHING THE FRONT WHEEL (NUTTED WHEEL)
Note: If your bike has a quick release front wheel, you can skip this
page.
When attaching the wheel, ensure that the washer is on the outside of the fork
next to the nut, and that the tyre direction is correct – the arrows in the
tread of the tyre should be pointing to the back of the bike, while it is
upside down.
Tighten nuts by hand and then use the pedal spanner (or any 15mm spanner), to tighten them off.
ATTACHING THE PEDALS
Take note of the L and R marks on the threads of each pedal, which shows you which side of the bike to fit them.
To tighten, turn the pedals towards the front of the bike.
Hand-tighten each side, then use 15mm spanner and secure.
CONNECTING THE BRAKES
Note: If your bike has disc brakes, you can skip this step.
Connect the front brake by placing the silver barrel into the right brake
lever.
Fix the other end of the cable into the arms attached to the brake pad. Make sure the arm is pointing towards the bike, then pull the cable and arm together, placing the tab at the end of the exposed section of wire into the gap.
If you find that the front wheel doesn’t spin freely, one side of the brake is pulling more than the other. To adjust the levers, take a Philips screwdriver and tension the black screw on the left fork brake pad. Twist one full turn at a time and then check the tension until you see both sides of the brake moving evenly.
FITTING THE REAR REFLECTOR
To fit the rear reflector, you’ll need the Philips screwdriver and the screws provided in the pack. Simply line up the screw holes on the reflector with those on the rear of the pannier rack and secure in place.
FINAL CHECKS
Now your bike is built, it’s time to check the handlebars, saddle, and tyre
pressure.
Make sure the handlebars are straight and tight enough. Stand over the bike
and loosen the handlebar and stem, straighten your handlebars so they are 90
degrees to the wheel, then secure the bolt back in place.
Adjust the saddle by loosening the bolt at the top of the seat tube using a
5mm Allen key. Ideally the saddle should be in line with your hip when
standing. Set the appropriate height, making sure it is also in line with the
frame. Secure the bolt back up.
Check tyre pressure by removing the value cap to expose the valve head,
connect the nozzle and begin to fill the tyres with air. Maximum tyre pressure
can be found on the tyre wall. If you don’t have a pump which displays
pressure, simply fill with air until they feel firm when you push the tyre.
Remove the pump and refit the valve cap.
You’re now ready to joy ride!
