1. Confirm that the right electrical system is in place. If necessary, have
an electrician install an extra circuit with the right amperage and voltage
for your kiln.
2. Place the stand that is supplied with your kiln on a flat, heatproof, and
level floor with at least 12” of clearance on all sides of the kiln. Shim at
the floor if necessary (never under the base of the kiln). Use only non-
flammable shims, like metal.
3. Carefully center the base of the kiln on the stand and make sure it’s level.
4. Stack the rings of the kiln on top of the base, making sure to align the kiln’s electrical boxes on the right, and the clamps at the back.
The bricks are very fragile! Make sure everything is completely even before installing the next ring. Do not attempt to slide or adjust multiple rings at once; if you need to adjust a lower ring, remove upper rings to do so.
5. Add the lid, making sure that outside of the top of the hinge is on the outside of the bottom lip of the hinge. Carefully line up the holes for the hinge rod. Remove one cotter pin from the hinge rod and slide it through both hinge holes.
For kilns with spring assist (models 284, 286, 25” oval, and 30” oval), see instructions on separate card.
6. Replace the cotter pin and secure it by spreading the ends. (Needle nosed
pliers are ideal).
7. With the lid closed, slide your lid brace bar through the lid brace
apparatus, with the notch opening at the bottom facing the back of your kiln.
Slide the round hole at the top over the bolt on the kiln then attach the nut.
Note: the 12” model has a chain rather than a brace.
8. Re-attach section brackets and back-braces, if included.
9. Follow the wiring instructions on the “Wiring the Electrical Boxes” card.
10. While still disconnected from power, vacuum the interior with a soft
bristle attachment.
11. Turn off power at the breaker box, then plug in your kiln.

1. Remove all four philips head screws on both sides of the bottom box, and remove the box. Leave all other screws in place.
2. Depending on your model, there will be two or four wires coming from the
kiln itself that are attached inside the lower box, and three wires (one
white, one black, and one green ground wire) coming out of the controller box.
Gently pull the wires further out of the controller box toward the bottom box.
Do not disconnect the wires that are already attached to the bottom
box.
3. Remove the electrical tape from the wires from the controller box and plug them to the open terminals in the bottom box. It does not matter which wire goes into which available terminal.
4. Attach the green ground wire to the green spade connector next to the
round box opening.
5. Put the box cover back on, and replace the screws.
6. If your kilns has 3 rings, repeat steps 1-5 to connect the top box to the
controller box.

1. Leaving the top pipe in place, align the holes in the lid brackets with
the holes on the brackets attached to the back of your kiln.
2. With the lid closed, slide your lid brace bar through the lid brace
apparatus, with the notch opening at the bottom facing the back of your kiln.
Slide the round hole at the top over the bolt on the kiln then attach the nut.
3. Slide the middle pipe into the hole on one side (where the lid bracket attaches to the kiln bracket) and begin to add the springs, making sure the short prong of each spring is tucked under the top pipe, between the pipe and the kiln.
If your model has three springs, the first spring should have the short prong on the inside (toward the center of the pipe), and the other two should be the opposite direction. If you have four springs, the first two should have the short prong on the inside, and the remaining two should be opposite (the short prongs are always facing the center of the pipe).
4. Slide the middle pipe through second hole in the brackets, and secure both sides with cotter pins.
5. Lift the lid up to take the tension off the springs, then slide the bottom pipe so that it is through both bottom holes, with the bottom (long) prongs of the springs tucked under the pipe (between the pipe and the kiln). Secure with cotter pin.
