Required Maintenance Items for Eq Systems Hydraulic Jacks and Slide
Systems
Required checks are 12 months for normal usage. Extreme usage may require more frequent inspections. These items will help minimize system failure and will help prolong the life of the system. The use of an installation/operation manual during the inspection will assist you in determining correct mounting/installation of components.
Battery and Power Supply
EQ Systems does not supply batteries or charging devices. However, the condition of the batteries and cable connections to the EQ System is imperative. The battery(s) should be well maintained per the battery manufacture’s requirements. Keep the water level up and keep the terminals (connections) tight and free of corrosion. The battery(s) should be kept at a good charge state by recommended charging methods. Proper testing per the battery manufacture’s recommendation is needed to assure that the battery(s) will be able to provide the required power to run the system. Load testing is recommended to determine that the battery(s) can provide a minimum of 150 amperes @ a minimum of 10.5 VDC for (minimum of) 30 seconds.
Wiring and Electrical Connections
All connectors must be kept tight and free from corrosion. The use of corrosion cleaners and preventative sprays and grease may be used to help these items of concern. Wiring should be properly secured and protected to prevent chaffing and damage from heat and moving objects. The ground to the pump stud and the positive cable connection to the motor solenoid should be checked to assure that they are tight and free from corrosion.
Keypads and Controllers
These devices are considered to be maintenance free. However the mounting of them and their physical condition should be checked. Keypads should be firmly mounted in a location where they will not be subjected to dampness or spilled liquids. Exposure of the keypad to liquids will require its replacement. Controllers (black box mounted center of unit) should be inspected for proper and firm mounting. Wire harnesses to this unit need to be properly secured and the plug connections checked for corrosion.
Hydraulic Pump/Manifold Assembly
The hydraulic pump assembly should be kept clean and free from corrosion. It may be cleaned by using WD-40 or a similar spray cleaner/preservative. Inspect this area for any signs of fluid leakage.
Hydraulic Fluid Reservoir
The translucent reservoir should be kept clean to allow the fluid level to be monitored. WD-40 or a similar spray may be used to clean the outside of the reservoir. The fluid in the reservoir should be kept at the proper level generally- this is 1 inch below the fill cap when all jacks and slides are fully retracted. The fluid should be inspected for of dirt, water or other contaminants. If contamination is found the reservoir should be drained, removed, cleaned, reinstalled and refilled with Dexron ATF. This may need to be done more than once after cycling the system several times to “flush” the system.
Hydraulic Jacks and Slide Cylinders
The chromed rods of the cylinders must be kept clean and protected from corrosive elements. They may be cleaned and wiped clean using WD-40 or similar spray cleaner. Do not use products that will leave a film that will attract and hold dirt/debris- Nor should aggressive cleaners such as brake or carb cleaner be used. The body of the jack or cylinder and the foot may be repainted as long as no paint is allowed onto the chromed rod.
Hoses and Hose Fittings/Adaptors
These items need to be inspected for any signs of leaks. Connections found to be leaking need to be tightened or replaced. Hose assemblies that leak at the hose end crimp or any where along its length need to be replaced. Hose assemblies are not to be repaired (spliced or crimped ends replaced). Hoses should be inspected for attachments points along its run to assure that they have not come loose and could come into contact with items that may damage them- such as moving parts or heat sources. Chafing or damage to the hose from heat will require that the hose assembly be replaced.
Hydraulic Slide Support Arms
These items generally are to be considered bearing surfaces as they will “ride” on wear pads or rollers as they travel in and out. These surfaces should be kept clean. The use of cleaners such as WD-40 or a similar product may be used to clean these surfaces of dirt and other debris. A dry spray type lube such as silicone or dry Teflon may be used. Do not use grease or wet lubricants that can attract dirt and debris.
Slide Timing or Gear Drive
The gear and rack on these units need to be kept clean and dry. The use of spray cleaners such as WD-40 and compressed air may be used to clear these areas of dirt and debris. A dry type lube such as silicone or Teflon may be used. Do not use grease or wet lubricants that can attract dirt and debris.
