Introduction

The Model AMP150 is like a “Swiss Army Knife”, a high end device that integrates multiple functions. It caters to all modern music sources: streaming from the network, the Internet, or your mobile device. It also connects to music streaming platforms such as Spotify, Tidal, qobuz and Roon. Naturally this device includes Bluetooth and inputs for digital and analogue sources. It is equipped with high-quality balanced and unbalanced inputs.

The RCA and XLR inputs are flexible in operation, and can be assigned to different source devices. The input selector switches incorporated gold- contact relays of outstanding quality in order to guarantee freedom from harmonic distortion and background noise.

The AMP150 reigns with power and superb sound. The unit was developed from the Cool Class A technology, whose outstanding sound we succeeded in improving further. With a high damping factor, it is powerful enough to drive almost any loudspeaker currently on the market. With the AMP150, you can easily connect to your speakers and enjoy your favorite music right away.

Thank you for purchasing this AMP150. It is my sincere hope that you will enjoy it as much as we do.

Setup

The AMP150 measures 43cm W x 40cm D x 12cm H and weighs 12kg. You may place it wherever you please, but it is going to need lots of free air for adequate cooling.
There needs to be space above and unobstructed space around the sides to allow for proper air flow. This is a factor in reliable operation and long life.

If the amplifier becomes too hot to touch please contact your dealer or the factory for assistance.

AC power is provided by a conventional detachable IEC 320 grounded AC mains power cord. This power cord serves as the safety disconnect. The power cord should be removed from the wall in the event of electrical storms or when the AMP150 is not going to be used for long periods.

The required voltage and correct fuse value will be indicated on the rear of the amplifier. The 220 – 240 Vac build amplifiers are fused at 5A.Both 100 Vac and 120Vac builds are fused at 8A.

In all instances the fuses are type 5x20mm slow blow (time delay) fuse rated. Do not substitute fuses of different values or physical size. If you cannot source equivalent replacement fuses locally, please contact your dealer or the factory.

The fuse holder is located on the rear panel of the amplifier. Changing the fuse requires a close fitting straight blade screwdriver, and the power cord should be unplugged from the wall. If you are not comfortable performing this function in the unlikely event that it becomes necessary, please contact your dealer or a service professional.

Quick Connections

Connect your sources to the inputs. There are four inputs, two with XLR ⑥ ⑦ and two with RCA ④ ⑤only.

Output Connections and Loudspeakers

The rear of the AMP150 is equipped with a pair of binding posts for each channel, four total. The binding posts are marked red and black.

The Red output connector connects to the Red (+) of your speakers and the Black connector will connect to the Black (-).

The amplifier is stable into any load which does not dip below 2 ohms, but it will protect itself by shutting off any channel which outputs more than 8 amps (200 watts peak into 2 ohms). The protection circuit is reset by turning the amp off for a few moments and then turning it back on. We recommend that you check your output wiring and/or the loudspeaker if this happens, and contact your dealer or the factory if you have problems.

The binding posts deserve special note – in keeping with the requirements of Class 2 circuits in North America they are fully insulated. Speaker cables connected as intended will have no exposed conductive metal. The posts accept banana, spade, bare wire or pins with a diameter of 4.5mm or less. Bare wire, pins and spades socket into the binding post only from the bottom. The nuts on the binding posts should only be finger tight. Never tighten with wrench or pliers.

Operation

Front panel

Front panel

Once the speakers have been connected in observation of the proper regulations and with the observation of polarity and phase you may attach the input cables and power cord. It is always advised that the power cord is the last connection made and the first to be removed.

You are now ready to play music. Press the power switch ⑥ of the AMP150, the VU meter ② ③will light up. Select the input ① you want from the front panel or remote. Turn the volume ⑤ up to your preferred listening level. Sit back and enjoy! The AMP150 takes approximately an hour to fully warm up and sounds better as it does. The VU meter located in the middle of the front panel will display the output power of the two channels.

Remote Control

This remote is designed to operate several pieces of opera-consonance electronics, not all of the functions available on this remote will be applicable to your AMP150.

The volume, channel select and mute functions of the amplifier can be operated by using the remote control. The opear-consonance system remote control will also control other consonance products like CD players, avoiding the need of several different remote control devices.

The remote control uses two 1.5-volt LR03 AAA batteries. The two AAA batteries should be replaced every six months at least. The batteries are located under the remote back. This is held in place with four Philips flat head screws. Please note the polarity of the batteries, putting them in wrong could cause damage.

Cleaning

The finish can be damaged by harsh cleaners and abrasive cloths. We find a damp soft cloth works best. You can also use a mild solution of Windex or white vinegar but be careful to avoid the acrylic window. The acrylic window should only be cleaned using “plastic cleaner & polish”.

Streaming Media Playback

The digital stream unit of AMP150 works best when it is connected to your network, since it is meant to be used as a headless device: no monitor connected, and controlled via another device (PC, smartphone, tablet etc).It is the easiest way to connect your router to your network ⑧ with a network cable. No setup is required.

Another easy way to connect to it, especially on first setup, is to connect in Hotspot Mode. If no wireless network is configured, it will create a network called “Opera”. Simply connect to it (password: 12345678) and the User Interface will automatically pop up.

It can be controlled via a Web User Interface, it means that the controlling device can be a mobile phone, a tablet,  a PC, and more generally, anything with a browser. For an optimal experience, Google Chrome is suggested.

To reach our User Interface, first discover the IP address of your unit. To do so, an easy way is to use FING Android and iOS App.

Opera_consonance also provides Android apps.
