The GefenTV Digital Audio Decoder

The GefenTV Digital Audio Decoder takes audio encoded in Dolby Digital (at up to 5.1 channels) from your multichain- nel S/PDIF or TOSLINK digital audio source and converts it to L/R analog audio – without the need for any other external equipment! With the GefenTV Digital to Analog Decoder, you can listen to digital audio sources such as DVD and CD players or digital computer audio on your legacy analog sound system, preserving your current investment.

How It Works

A coaxial or optical audio output on your digital audio source connects to the input on the Digital to Analog Decoder. The input type is chosen with the Decoder’s selector button. The Decoder is connected to power. Analog RCA connectors on the Decoder output L/R analog audio to powered speakers.

  • This decoder supports both Linear PCM and Dolby Digital audio input formats.
  • The Digital Audio Decoder is not an amplification device and cannot be used directly with earphones or other passive devices.
  • Do not use this decoder with a power supply other than the one that is provided.

UNIT LAYOUT

  1. Dolby Digital
    This LED indicator will glow bright red when a Dolby Digital signal is detected on the input.

  2. Coax
    This LED indicator will glow bright green when the Coax input is activated.

  3. Out (L/R)
    Connect L/R RCA stereo cables from these audio outputs to an external amplifier.

  4. Coax In
    Use a coax audio cable to connect an external digital audio source to this S/PDIF connector.

  5. Opt In
    Use an optical cable to connect an external digital audio source to this TOSLINK connector.

  6. 5V DC
    Connect the included 5V DC power supply to this power receptacle. Only use the power supply that is included with this product.

  7. Input
    Press this button to toggle between Coax (S/PDIF) and Optical (TOSLINK) inputs.

CONNECTING THE DIGITAL AUDIO DECODER

How to Connect the Digital Audio Decoder

  1. Connect a Coax and/or Optical cable between the audio source and the S/PDIF and/or TOSLINK connectors on the Digital Audio Decoder.
  2. Connect a pair of L/R RCA-type cables between the L/R output connectors on the Digital Audio Decoder and the

  4. Connect the AC power cord to an available electrical outlet.

OPERATING THE DIGITAL AUDIO DECODER

LED Indicators

The following illustrations below show the different states of audio input and the audio type which is displayed by the LED indicators on the Digital Audio Decoder. Pressing the Input button switches between Coax and Optical inputs

WARRANTY

Gefen warrants the equipment it manufactures to be free from defects in material and workmanship. If equipment fails because of such defects and Gefen is notifi ed within two (2) years from the date of shipment, Gefen will, at its option, repair or replace the equipment, provided that the equipment has not been subjected to mechanical, electrical, or other abuse or modifi cations. Equipment that fails under conditions other than those covered will be repaired at the current price of parts and labor in effect at the time of repair. Such repairs are warranted for ninety (90) days from the day of reshipment to the Buyer. This warranty is in lieu of all other warranties expressed or implied, including without limitation, any implied warranty or merchantability or fi tness for any particular purpose, all of which are expressly disclaimed.

  1. Proof of sale may be required in order to claim warranty.
  2. Customers outside the US are responsible for shipping charges to and from Gefen.
  3. Copper cables are limited to a 30 day warranty and cables must be in their original condition.
