General information

Rechargeable batteries consist of two electrodes that are placed into an electrolyte. Batteries are therefore classed as a chemical element. Chemical reactions take place inside this element. These reactions are reversible, which makes it possible to recharge the battery.
A charge voltage is required to recharge batteries. This voltage must be higher than the cell voltage. Moreover, the energy (mAh) supplied during the charging process must be higher than that which can be drawn afterwards. This ratio of the energy supplied to the energy drawn is called efficiency.
The capacity that can be drawn mainly depends on the discharge current and has a decisive impact on the condition of the battery. The supplied charge cannot be used as a measure, because some of it will be lost during charging (e.g. converted into heat).
The capacity data given by the manufacturer is the maximum theoretic quantity of current which can be delivered by the battery. This means that a 2000 mAh battery can, for example, theoretically deliver a current of 1000 mA (= 1 A) for two hours. This value depends heavily on numerous factors (e.g. condition of the battery, discharge current and temperature).
Selecting the charging current
In most cases, the charger automatically detects the rechargeable battery specifications. Always check the specifications that were automatically detected in the LCD display (2) and manually correct the parameters if necessary.
The charger allows you to select a suitable charging current for your battery (0.1 A to 1.5 A).
If you wish to manually set the charging current, ensure that the selected current is the same as the value stated on the battery.
Example 1: Labelled as “Standard charge: 12 – 15 hours at xxx mA” (= “Standard charge: 12 – 15 hrs at xxx mA”)
Example 2: Labelled as “Fast charge: 4 – 5 hours at xxx mA” (“Fast charge: 4 – 5 hrs at xxx mA”)
Example 3: Labelled as “Fast rechargeable or “Quick charging possible”). It may not be possible to select the exact charging current, If so, select the next lowest charging current.
If the battery does not indicate the charging current, use the “Auto” function to automatically detect the battery type and charging current. If you wish to set the charging current manually, select a current equivalent to approximately 1/10 of the battery capacity (e.g. for a battery with a capacity of 2500 mAh, select a charging current of approximately 0.3 A).
