Dallas Freshwater Salt System
Product Information
The Freshwater Salt System S.A. is a system designed to provide a convenient and efficient way to maintain the water quality in your spa. It utilizes a salt cartridge, mineral sanitizer cartridge, and sanitizer product to keep the water clean and sanitized. The system also includes instructions for adjusting alkalinity, adding salt, installing the freshwater mineral cartridge, adding sanitizer, and softening the water. DO NOT PUT IN SALT CARTRIDGE UNTIL ALL STEPS BELOW ARE COMPLETED SALT CARTRIDGE INSTALL WILL BE THE LAST STEP TO BE PREFORMED NEVER POWER ON THE SPA WHEN EMPTY
Product Usage Instructions
Getting Started
- With spa off removes the filter and basket from the filter housing.
- Fill spa from water hose directly into filter housing (NEVER POWER THE SPA ON WHEN EMPTY). If you have soft water available please fill the tub with it as it will save time. Fill to just below the pillows but above the highest jet.
- Once filled power up the spa making sure all pumps are moving water through the jets. Set jets to the highest power level.
- Put the filter only back into filter housing without the basket.
- Test water with Freshwater 5-Way Test Strip . Verify FCL, Alk, pH and Hard (water hardness). Readings on test strip are only valid within 60 seconds.
- Typical S.A. water is: FCL – 0.2, Alk – 220, pH – 8.0, Water Hardness – 350ppm
Water Preparation
Before installing the salt cartridge, perform the following tasks:
- With the basket removed and filter in place, close the air controllers.
- Adjust the alkalinity following the instructions provided on the back of the sheet.
- Add salt to the spa. Note that tubs with salt levels over 2,250 ppm will need to be drained.
- Install the Freshwater Mineral Cartridge. This cartridge should be replaced every 4 months.
- Add sanitizer (chlorine product) by putting 1 full capful in the skimmer filter or filter housing with jets on high.
- If soft water was not used during the fill process in step 1, soften the water using the provided guidelines. The target total hardness level is 50 ppm to 75 ppm (max).
- Do not treat or adjust the pH for at least 48 hours.
With basket removed and filter in, close air controllers and then perform these tasks (For instructions for each of these 5 tasks see back of sheet):
- ADJUST ALKALINITY
- ADD SALT
- INSTALL FRESHWATER MINERAL CARTRIDGE
- ADD SANITIZER
- SOFTEN WATER
Note: Do not treat or adjust PH for at least 48 hours
Installing the Saltwater System
- Turn off the power to the spa at the breaker box.
- Remove the Dummy Plug and replace it with the Freshwater Salt System Cartridge in the chamber.
- Turn the power to the spa back on.
Note: It is important to follow these instructions carefully to ensure proper installation and maintenance of the Freshwater Salt System S.A.
IMPORTANT
- You must test the water every day for at least the first 5 days. Maintain a minimum of 5.0 FCL reading by adding 1 capful of sanitizer. After each spa use test water to monitor your FCL level.
- If 2 or more people use spa, turn BOOST on before going in.
- DO NOT USE STAIN & SCALE OR CLARIFIER EVER IN A SALT WATER SYSTEM
HOW TO
ADJUST ALKALINITY
- Adjust alkalinity to 80 ppm by adding Dry Acid (pH Down product) through the filter without the basket (15 oz will treat approximately 300 gallons). By hand swish any product that settles on top of filter.
Note: Once 80 ppm is achieved DO NOT treat or adjust pH for at least 48 hours. pH levels will usually read normally after this timeframe has passed.
ADD SALT
- USE FRESHWATER SPA SALT ONLY
- For startup, add ½ cup to 1 cup less than what is recommended for your tub size on the chart located on the Freshwater Spa Salt package. With the jets running on high add the salt 1 scoop at a time through the filter without the basket. Swish off any product that settles on top of the filter by hand.
- Allow the jets to run on high for 5 minutes to ensure the salt is completely dissolved.
- Test salt content with a Freshwater Salt Test Strip (black bottle) to verify that the salt level is in the optimal range by dipping test strip for 1 second and then comparing colors after 20 seconds.
- If salt level is still too low add 1/2 scoop of salt into filter housing and repeat test; repeat adding o1/2 scoop of salt and re-testing until desired range is achieved being mindful not to exceed the recommended level.
Note: Tubs with salt levels over 2,250 ppm will have to be drained
INSTALL FRESHWATER MINERAL SPA SANITIZER CARTRIDGE
- Remove filter to reveal the standpipe at the bottom of the filter housing with the hole in the center.
- Place the Freshwater Mineral Cartridge in the center hole of the standpipe. (Replace this cartridge every 4 months)
ADD SANITIZER
Use Sanitizer (chlorine product) and put 1 full cap full in skimmer filter (or
filter housing) with jets on high.
SOFTEN WATER
Do this ONLY if you did not use soft water during the fill process in step 1.
The target total hardness level is 50 ppm to 75 ppm (max). Use the following
guidelines if your calcium hardness is over 75 ppm
-
75-150 ppm: use the Vanishing Act pillow provided in your start up kit.
-
150-300 ppm: use the Vanishing Act XL
After 24 hours test spa water with a Freshwater 5-Way Test Strip. If calcium hardness level sill reads above 75 ppm, repeat the process until you get close to 50 ppm. Discard Vanishing Act in your normal trash after recommended amount of time and before continuing next step.
