SETTING UP THE PRODUCT
Place the base station on a flat, stable surface close to your TV. Fully
charge OSKAR before using it for the first time (4-a).
You can use either the optical audio cable (4-b) or the 3.5 mm audio cable to
connect the device (4-c). For better sound quality, we recommend you use the
optical audio cable (4-b). Use the 3.5 mm audio cable (4-c) if your TV does
not have an optical digital audio connection. Position OSKAR on the base
station.
If you connect both cables, the base station automatically selects the optical
audio cable to transmit the TV audio.
4-a
POWER SUPPLY AND CHARGING
- Connect the USB power cable to the DC IN 5 V connection on the base station and to the USB power adapter. Then plug the power adapter into the wall socket.
- Charge OSKAR before the first use by placing it on the base station. OSKAR does not have to be switched on to be charged.
The charge indicator illuminates red during the charging process. The charge indicator illuminates green when the charging process is complete. Charging takes about 4 hours. One charge lasts for about 16 hours of use depending on the use conditions. If the charge indicator flashes red, the battery charge is less than 20%. Please recharge OSKAR.
4-b
CONNECTING VIA THE OPTICAL AUDIO CABLE
- Remove the protective covers from both ends of the optical cable.
- Connect the audio cable to the base station and the TV. Firmly plug in the connector until it locks in place.
- Set the digital audio setting of your TV to PCM output. If you do not set the audio to “PCM”, you might not hear any sound. For additional information on setting the digital audio output to PCM, please read the operating manual for your TV.
4-c
CONNECTING VIA THE 3.5 MM AUDIO CABLE
- Connect the 3.5 mm audio cable to the AUX IN input on the base station and to the audio output (headphone connection) on your TV. Firmly plug in the connector. You can find more information about this step in the operating manual for your TV.
Usually no sound comes out of the TV if you connect a cable to the TV headphone connection. To change this, you must change the settings on your TV. You can find more details in the operating manual for your TV.
5
LISTENING TO TV AUDIO
-
Remove OSKAR from the charging station before you turn it on.
-
To turn OSKAR on, rotate the On/Off volume knob clockwise until you hear a click.
The OSKAR On/Off indicator now illuminates. -
Rotate the On/Off volume knob to set the desired volume.
-
Take OSKAR with you to your proper position.
-
To turn OSKAR off, rotate the On/Off volume knob anticlockwise until you hear a click. The OSKAR On/Off indicator goes out and the connection indicator on the base station flashes before going out after a few minutes.
Note: To save energy, the base station and OSKAR switch to standby mode after about 5 minutes if the TV is switched off or if OSKAR does not receive an audio signal.
6
SPEECH FILTERING FEATURE
OSKAR uses unique technology to improve your understanding of dialogue. You
hear human voices more clearly, while disruptive ambient noises are minimised.
- Each time you press the speech filter button, the system switches into a different dialogue clarifying mode and displays the current mode via the speech filter indicator. The higher the level, the more audible the voices.
- To turn off dialogue clarification, press the speech filter button until the speech filter display no longer illuminates.
OSKAR has been developed primarily for people with hearing loss. Please keep in mind that this implies that the general audio quality changes when you increase the dialogue clarification feature.
7
USING WITH HEADPHONES
- For undisturbed enjoyment of TV audio, you can connect external headphones if needed. Before putting on the headphones, first turn down the volume to the lowest setting so that you are not exposed to an uncomfortably high audio level. You can still use the speech filtering feature when you use headphones.
