EN54-24 Loudspeakers Wiring Guide

EN54-24 Loudspeakers

Thank you for choosing Adastra loudspeakers as part of your EN54-24 compliant public address system. Please follow the guidance below for connecting these speaker units to your amplifier for correct operation and to maintain function in an emergency scenario.
EN54-24 compliance relates to public address systems that can operate in fire- related emergency situations and dictates that a sound system remains intact to enable public announcements for emergency information and evacuation instructions.
Adastra speaker units that are EN54-24 compliant have a heat-resistant ceramic terminal block for connection to the amplifier and this may also be fitted with a thermal fuse. For EN54-24 compliance, the amplifier must be connected through the fuse so that if a speaker unit becomes compromised by fire damage, the fuse will fail and avoid any short-circuit through the
damaged speaker (which can damage the amplifier).
The terminal block for EN54-24 horn speakers is provided in a separate fire- resistant junction box, hardwired to the speaker as shown opposite. A choice of FUSED or NOT  FUSED connection is available. You must use FUSED connection for EN54-24 compliance.  For column speakers, the terminal block is inside the column housing. Remove the lower cover of the column speaker by unfastening the 2 screws either side of the cable entry gland. Connect to the terminals in the same way as for horn speakers.

For ceiling speakers, the ceramic terminal block is located on the rear (upper) side of the speaker basket. Again, connect the input via the thermal fuse if one is fitted.
Ensure all connections are firmly secured and that there are no loose or shorted connections.
