Smart Charge launches new ceiling-mounted charging solution for half the
installation fee and convenient maintenance
HONG KONG, 13 March 2023 – Smart Charge (HK) Limited (Smart Charge), co-
established by HKT Limited (HKT) and CLP Holdings Limited (CLP), announces the
launch of a new ceiling-mounted charging solution*, aimed at solving the
problems of high cost, large size, complex maintenance, and the need for
stable mobile network support associated with old ceiling-mounted chargers.
Electric vehicle (EV) owners can install the new ceiling-mounted charger at an
island parking bay, with no adjacent walls or columns, for close to half the
cost^ to enjoy a safe and reliable charging experience, promoting the adoption
of new energy transport in Hong Kong. 
Key Features
- Weight Reduction: The new ceiling-mounted charger is over 80% lighter than its predecessor, significantly reducing the installation fee and addressing concerns over the weight of EV chargers.
- RFID Technology: Utilizing RFID technology, the charger instantly detects the parked vehicle and activates the charging system. This eliminates the need for smartphone activation and avoids network signal issues in car parks.
- Convenient Installation and Maintenance: Unlike pillar chargers, which require groundwork for burying cords, the -mounted charger offers a simpler installation process and easier maintenance.
- Professional Certification: The charger is developed by Smart Charge and certified by structural engineers. The cable height can be adjusted to meet the EV owner’s needs, ensuring a safe and reliable charging experience.
Currently, Smart Charge serves 33 of Hong Kong’s major housing estates,
covering about 10,000 parking bays, about 30-40% of which are island bays.
Smart Charge will continue to explore the needs of EV owners and strive to
provide dependable, solid and reasonably priced EV charging services.

Product Usage Instructions
- Parking: Park your electric vehicle in a designated parking bay.
- Charger Activation: Once parked, the ceiling-mounted charger will automatically detect your vehicle using RFID technology.
- Power Connection: Connect the power cord from the charger to your vehicle’s charging port.
- Charging Process: The charger will initiate the charging process upon successful connection. Monitor the charging status through your vehicle’s display or charging indicator lights.
- Charging Completion: Once your vehicle is fully charged or you decide to stop charging, disconnect the power cord from your vehicle’s charging port.
