Product Usage

  1. Assemble the composting toilet. For permanent installation, ensure that the toilet has a firm stand and is sufficiently secured during travel to prevent it from falling over.
  2. Place a bag in the solids container.
  3. Place one cup full of litter into the bag.
  4. Use the toilet as you normally would, with liquids in front and solids and toilet paper in the back. Dispose of hygiene products separately.
  5. When the solids container is full, remove the bag, close it tightly, and dispose of the solids in household waste. If compostable toilet paper is used, conventional composting is also possible. Empty the urine canister in a toilet connected to the sewage system. Check for local disposal regulations before disposing of waste.

Important Hints

  • Hygiene products such as tampons, pads, diapers, and the like should not be disposed of in the solids bin. Dispose of them separately in household waste.

Instructions for using your Trelino®

Assembly

Our composting toilets can be used mobile as well as permanently installed. For mounting, it may be necessary to drill into the material. In case of a permanent instal- lation, please make sure that the toilet has a fi rm stand, is suffi ciently secured during travel and cannot fall over.

First steps

The Trelino composting toilet is a toilet for mobile use and is delivered already pre-assembled.
Please take care that the bucket and canister are in place after transport and make sure that the odor trap is still fixed in the lid and has not slipped into the urine canister.

Use and care

  • Open the lid, take out the separator insert and position the solids container and the canister properly in the body. Before first use, line the container with a (compostable) garbage bag and optionally place two handfuls of litter inside. Now your Trelino® is ready for use.
  • Dispose of used toilet paper in the solid waste container. After the big business, spread litter over the fresh poop to faciliate the drying process and prevent the formation of unpleasant odors. Only use Trelino® in a seated position.

Good to know

  • We recommend the use of one of the following litter materials to achieve the best results and maxi-mise the drying process: Small animal litter, organic cat litter, coconut bricks, fine bark mulch, hemp mixtures, compressed wood pellets, Terra Preta, humus or soil.
  • Check the fill level of the urine canister at regular intervals to prevent overflowing.
  • Do not use damp toilet paper! This is counterproductive for the drying process.
  • Use the solids container with a trash bag for easy disposal of solids.
  • Observe the maximum load of 264 (S) / 330 lbs (M/L).
  • The membrane in the open lid of the urine canister serves as spill and odor protection and should always be used.

Emptying instructions
When the container is full, remove the bag, close it tightly and dispose of the solids in the household waste. If compostable toilet paper is used, conventional composting is also possible. Empty the urine canister in a toilet connected to the sewage system. We recommend that you inform yourself about the local disposal regulations.

Cleaning
We recommend vinegar concentrate diluted with water (1 part of vinegar : 7 parts of water) for cleaning the separator, the funnel integrated in it, the solids container and the canister. Rinse the urine canister with the solution after each emptying to prevent the formation of urine scale and unpleasant odors. If urine scale has already formed deposits or odors, table vinegar can also be used pure. Make sure to use undiluted vinegar only in the canister and not to let it run through the lid membrane to avoid premature wear. Cleaning with pure water is not recommended, as this can cause the formation of odors and urine scale. For simple, natural cleaning of all individual parts of the separation toilet, ph-neutral cleaners and agents with effective microorganisms are also suitable. The separating insert can be wiped with toilet paper after each use of the toilet to prevent urine residues.

Good to know

  • Do not use chemical cleaners or sharp-edged objects on the surfaces such as solvents, scouring agents, milk/sponges, etc..
  • Empty the urine canister regularly (ideally every 2 – 3 days).
  • Warm temperatures accelerate the decomposition process of compostable garbage bags. Ensure regular emptying.
  • Containers and accessories are not suitable for the dishwasher or washing machine.
  • Attention! Please make sure that the inside of the corpus is adequately ventilated. This is especially true for our products made of wood. Since the natural material reacts sensitively to moisture, we recommend the use of a fan. If you are not going to use your Trelino® for a longer period of time, open the lid to promote air circulation. Persistently humid air can lead to mold in the worst case.

  • After doing No. 1 do I have to sprinkle the used toilet paper when I throw it in the solids bin?
Yes. The paper is damp after use. In order to keep your leftovers in the solid waste container in dry wipes, cover the toilet paper with a handful of litte

  • Can I use my separation toilet even if I have diarrhea?

The key here is: the proof of the pudding is in the eating! You can optimize your sitting position by leaning forward and backward and changing the angle of your legs. A little tip: The more upright your posture, the better your aim.
