INSTRUCTIONS
INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing this CLARKE Ventilation Fan which is designed for
indoor use in an industrial environment.
Read this manual carefully, in doing so you guarantee the safety of yourself
and that of others around you, and you can look forward to your purchase
giving you long and satisfactory service.
SAFETY RULES
Make sure that you read, understand, and comply with the following rules.
POSITIONING
- This fan is designed for indoor use only.
- Be aware that the suction capability is considerable. Do not position the fan where it will blow dust, chips, or hazardous fumes at people.
- DO NOT place the fan close to any wet surface. DO NOT place against any surface such as a wall, door, furniture, etc.
- DO NOT place the fan on a raised surface or anywhere it could topple over.
- Only use the fan in a level position.
- Take care to ensure that the intake grille cannot be blocked by curtains or other fabrics. Do not allow loose clothing, long hair, jewellery, etc. to be drawn into the intake side of the fan.
- Do not operate the fan in explosive atmospheres such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gasses, or dust such as in a paint spray booth. Electric motors create sparks that may ignite dust or fumes.
- DO NOT cover the fan or obstruct the air inlet and outlet sections of the ventilator.
- DO NOT get the fan wet or use it in areas of high condensation.
- DO NOT allow the power cable to touch hot surfaces.
- Do not use this fan with a programmable timer used to switch it on automatically.
PERSONNEL SAFETY
- DO NOT use the fan when you are tired or under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or intoxicating medication.
- DO NOT stand on the fan.
- DO NOT use the fan with wet hands or when there is water on the power cable.
- Young children must be kept away unless continuously supervised.
ELECTRICAL SAFETY
- Inspect the power cable/plug for damage/looseness. Do not use the fan if the power cable is damaged.
- Make sure that the voltage on the product label is the same as the voltage of the power supply. If in doubt, consult a qualified electrician.
- Do not abuse the electrical cable. Do not use the cable for pulling or unplugging the fan.
- Keep the cable away from sources of heat, oil, sharp edges, or moving parts. Damaged or tangled cables increase the risk of electric shock.
- Do not use extension cables with this fan.
SERVICE & REPAIRS
- Check that the fan is in good working order. Take immediate action to have it repaired or any damaged parts replaced.
- DO NOT attempt to repair the fan yourself. Always contact the Clarke service department which will use recommended parts only. Unapproved parts may be dangerous and will invalidate your warranty.
ENVIRONMENTAL RECYCLING POLICY
Through the purchase of this product, the customer is taking on the
obligation to deal with the WEEE in accordance with the WEEE regulations in
relation to the treatment, recycling & recovery, and environmentally sound
disposal of the WEEE. In effect, this means that this product must not be
discarded with general household waste but according to the laws governing
Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) at a recognized disposal
facility.
GUARANTEE
This product is guaranteed against faulty manufacture for a period of 12
months from the date of purchase. Please keep your receipt as proof of
purchase. This guarantee is invalid if the product is found to have been
abused, tampered with, or not used for the purpose for which it was intended.
Faulty goods must be returned to their place of purchase, no product can be
returned to us without prior permission. This guarantee does not affect your
statutory rights.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
WARNING! READ THESE ELECTRICAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS THOROUGHLY BEFORE
CONNECTING THE PRODUCT TO THE MAINS SUPPLY.
Before switching the product on, make sure that the voltage of your
electricity supply is the same as that indicated on the rating plate. This
product is designed to operate on 230VAC 50Hz. Connecting it to any other
power source may cause damage.
This product may be fitted with a non-rewireable plug. If it is necessary to
change the fuse in the plug, the fuse cover must be refitted. If the fuse
cover becomes lost or damaged, the plug must not be used until a suitable
replacement is obtained.
If the plug has to be changed because it is not suitable for your socket, or
due to damage, it should be cut off and a replacement fitted, following the
wiring instructions shown below. The old plug must be disposed of safely, as
insertion into the main socket could cause an electrical hazard.
WARNING! THE WIRES IN THE POWER CABLE OF THIS PRODUCT ARE COLOURED IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE FOLLOWING CODE:
Blue = Neutral; Brown = Live; Yellow and Green = Earth
If the colours of the wires in the power cable of this product do not
correspond with the markings on the terminals of your plug, proceed as
follows.
- The wire which is coloured Blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked N or coloured Black.
- The wire which is coloured Brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked L or coloured Red.
- The wire which is coloured Yellow and Green must be connected to the terminal which is marked E or or coloured Green.
The plug must be BS1363/A approved.
Ensure that the outer sheath of the
cable is firmly held by the clamp
We strongly recommend that this machine is connected to the mains supply via a
Residual Current Device (RCD)
If in any doubt, consult a qualified electrician. DO NOT attempt any repairs
yourself.
CONNECTING DUCTWORK
These ventilation fans will be used with Clarke retractable ducting available in 5-metre lengths as follows.

- Before use, attach the ducting to the discharge end of the ventilation fan as shown, secured with the tie cord provided.
- Place the ventilation fan in a level position on a flat surface and at a safe distance from flammable materials.
- The ventilation fan is operated by the ON/OFF switch located under the handle.
- Connect the ventilation fan to a suitable power supply.
MAINTENANCE
WARNING: ALWAYS DISCONNECT FROM THE POWER SUPPLY BEFORE PERFORMING ANY CLEANING OR MAINTENANCE TASKS. THIS SHOULD BE CARRIED OUT BY THE CLARKE SERVICE DEPARTMENT.
- Clean the with a soft damp cloth, Do not use solvents or abrasives.
- If used in spaces with high dust content, clean the guards and fan blades by vacuuming or wiping. Remove the end guard to gain access to the blades.
- REPLACE GUARDS BEFORE RE-CONNECTING TO MAINS SUPPLY.
- No other maintenance is required, should you discover any problem with the ventilation fan return it to the Clarke service department for repair.
FAILURE TO OPERATE
