Product Information

Hamax Hitch Adapter for 12 mm Thru Axle
This product is an adapter designed to fit a 12 mm thru axle to a bike frame with a trailer hitch. The product comes with a threaded stud and spacer that can be chosen based on the brand, diameter, length, and tread pitch of the existing thru axle. The adapter is easy to install and use, but it is important to follow the instructions carefully to ensure proper installation and usage.

Product Usage Instruction

Installation Guide

  1. Identify which thru axle fits your bike by removing the existing one in line with the bicycle user manual. Choose the matching thread stud (C) and spacer (F) for your frame and axle. Screw the thread onto the end of the thru-axle. Ensure that the letters on the inside of the thread are still visible to you after being attached, i.e. not facing towards the axle.
  2. Attach the trailer hitch (E) and slide the axle through the hub.
  3. Check that the lever is in an open position and turn it clockwise to tighten the thru-axle to the frame. The tightening force should be 6-7 Nm.
  4. Close the lever fully. It shall now be positioned 90o to the axle. Firm pressure is required to close it securely (15-20 Nm). If the lever cannot fully close, it is NOT secure. Make sure that the lever is NOT touching the frame.
  5. When closed, a suggested position for the lever of the axle is at 45o between the seat stay and the chain stay.
  6. If you have any problems with the assembly, open the lever and loosen the axle until you find the correct position. Hold the lever in place and use a 3 mm Allen (hex) key to tighten the lever adjustment screw (D) on the drive side of the bike. When this screw is tight, again close the lever (15-20 Nm) of the skewer on the non-drive side.

It is important to remember that just a half-turn of the screw can make the difference between the correct or incorrect closing force of the thru-axle. Do not use any tools to close or open the lever. If the thru-axle is not properly adjusted, the wheel can suddenly and unexpectedly fall off the bicycle, resulting in an accident, personal injury, or death.

Before the Ride
Check that the thru-axle is properly fastened. Check your wheel installation before riding. Lift the bicycle and give the top of the tyre a sharp downward blow. Shake the wheel to make sure that the wheel is fastened tightly. The wheel should not come off or move. If uncertain, repeat the installation procedure above.

Practice using the thru-axle until you can obtain the correct closing force with ease. If you have any doubts about the correct tightness or the use of the thru-axle, please check with your retailer or a specialized technician for assistance or advice.
