Product Information

The Testo 106 Food Thermometer is a handheld device that is designed to measure temperatures in food products. It comes with a display that shows the temperature readings, an On/Off switch, an Alarm LED that displays alarm values and sets functions, and a battery compartment at the rear side. The thermometer also includes an immersion/penetration probe that can be used to measure temperatures in food products. The product comes with safety information that should be followed to avoid electrical hazards, preserve product safety and warranty claims, ensure correct disposal, and protect the environment.

Product Usage Instructions

  1. Insert two CR2032 batteries into the battery compartment and ensure correct polarity.
  2. To turn on/off the thermometer, use the On/Off switch.
  3. Use the immersion/penetration probe to measure the temperature of food products.
  4. To manually hold the reading, press the Hold button. The reading will be frozen and displayed on the screen with the word “HOLD”.
  5. To restart the measurement, press the Hold button again.
  6. To set alarm values, use the Alarm LED function.
  7. If Auto Off is switched on, the thermometer will automatically turn off after 10 minutes of no activity.
  8. If Auto Hold is switched on, the thermometer will automatically freeze the reading once it is stable within a fixed time duration and display “AUTO HOLD”.
  9. If the signal sound is switched on, there will be a sound every time the button is pressed and alarm limits are exceeded.

Product Description

Intended Use

The Testo 106 is a robust food thermometer.
The product is designed for the following tasks/areas:

  • Food sector: Production, food service, spot check measurement
  • Measurement of liquids, pastes, and semi-solid materials The following components of the product are designed for continuous contact with foodstuffs in accordance with the regulation
    • (EG) 1935/2004:
    • The measurement probe is up to 1 cm before the probe handle or the plastic housing. If provided, the information about penetration depths in the instruction manual or the mark(s) on the measurement probes should be noted.
    • The product may not be used in the following areas:
  • In areas where there is a danger of explosion
  • For diagnostic measurement in medicine.

Avoid electrical hazards

  • Do not measure on or near live parts!

Preserving product safety/warranty claims

  • Operate the instrument properly and according to its intended purpose and within the parameters specified. Do not use force.
  • Do not store them together with solvents (e.g. acetone).
  • Open the instrument only when this is expressly described in the documentation for maintenance purposes.

Ensure correct disposal

  • Dispose of defective rechargeable batteries and spent batteries at the collection points provided.
  • Send the instrument directly to us at the end of its life cycle. We will ensure that it is disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.

Protect the environment

The button cell used in the instrument contains 1,2-Dimethoxyethane (CAS 110-71-4). See EC Regulation No. 1907/2006 (REACH) Art. 33.

Initial Operation

  1. Open the battery compartment.
  2. Insert the battery (2 x Type CR2032). Watch out for +/-.
  3. Close the battery compartment.

Operation

  • If the signal sound is switched on, there will be a sound every time is pressed and alarm limits are exceeded.
  • If the alarm LED is switched on, it flashes when upper or lower alarm values are exceeded.
  • If Auto Off is switched on, the instrument switches off automatically after 10 minutes if no button has been activated.
  • If Auto Hold is switched on, AUTO HOLD flashes. Once the reading is stable within a fixed time duration, it will be frozen. AUTO HOLD lights up.
  • Restart measurement .

Switching On/Off

  • Switch on an instrument .
  • Switch off the instrument: Keep pressed .

Measuring

  • MeasuringObserve required immersion/penetration depth for correct measurement results: > 15 mm.
  • The instrument is switched on. Immerse / penetrate the probe into the object being measured.
  • The current reading is shown.

Holding reading manually

  • Hold reading .
  •  Reading is frozen and HOLD lights up.
  • Restart measurement .

Exceeding the alarm value

ALARM and (upper alarm value exceeded) or (lower alarm value exceeded) light up.

Service and Maintenance

Changing the battery

  1. Open the battery compartment.
  2. Insert the battery (2 x Type CR2032). Watch out for +/-.
  3. Close the battery compartment.

Cleaning the instrument

  • Do not use any aggressive cleaning agents or solutions.
  • Clean the housing and probe with a damp cloth (soap water).

Setting alarm limits

The instrument is switched on.

  3. Return to measurement. If necessary repeat the procedure for the upper and lower alarm value.

Setting instrument

The instrument is switched off.

  1. Open configuration mode: Keep pressing.
  2. Select temperature unit (°C or °F): . Confirm selection .

    • If Auto Hold has been switched on: Set time duration (5, 10, 15, or 20s) at which reading has to be stable (change lower than 0.2°C) for it to be frozen:
