Congratulations!
Thank you for choosing the smart power 12V a revolutionary turntable DC power
supply made in Germany by Clearaudio.
The smart power 12V is a battery-based DC power supply upgrade designed for Clearaudio’s concept series and Performance DC turntables.
Like the smart power 24V, it provides clean power that is independent of the variability and inherent noise of the mains supply. With a minimal output impedance, it delivers a steady, stable voltage, allowing your concept or Performance DC turntable to maintain perfect speed stability.
Again, like the 24V version, the smart power 12V can be set to switch automatically from battery play mode into recharging mode and will continue to enhance your turntable’s performance and protect it from short circuits and power surges, even while charging.
When used with the concept active turntable, the smart power’s (12V) benefits are multiplied, since both the turntable’s motor and the on-board phonostage are fed with pure, clean DC power.

Safety instructions
General information
Check the device for visible damage before using it for the first time.
If the device is damaged, it should not be connected to the mains.
Also, never connect the device if it has been dropped or gotten wet, contact your dealer to have the device inspected.
Never expose the device to rain or moisture.
Never touch the power cord of the device with wet hands.
For your own safety, regular visual inspections of any defective insulation on the connection cable are also recommended. A damaged cable should be replaced immediately by a specialist!
Never pull on the power cable to unplug the device, but directly on the plug!
The inside of the device is maintenance-free, never open the housing or try to repair the device yourself. This can also lead to loss of warranty.
If you do not operate the device for a longer period of time, we recommend disconnecting the power supply from the mains.
Not suitable for children! Scope of delivery may contain small parts that can be swallowed.
Intended use
The smart power 12V is a power supply for 12V based Clearaudio turntables.
The intended use of the smart power 12V in accordance with the information provided in the user manual only.
The power supply may only be operated with maximum permissible connection values according to the technical data. Any other use or modification of this product is not intended.
Location of installation
The device should only be set up on leveled surfaces.
Avoid location with direct sunlight, temperature fluctuations and high
humidity. Likewise, avoid placing electronic devices near heaters, heat lamps,
or other devices that produce heat.
The device is designed for operation in heated rooms. Do not expose the smart
power 12V to a temperature above 40° Celsius.
Never block the ventilation slots or cover the device with a cloth or similar.
No objects with an open flame may be placed on the device (burning candles or
similar).
To prevent overheating of electronic parts never cover or put anything on top of the smart power 12V
Overload
The product is designed to comply with all necessary safety regulations, however you should not leave the device unattended under extreme loads.
Maintenance
Only use a soft cloth with a smooth surface for cleaning. Never use agressive cleaning detergent.
Health information
Permanently high volume can lead to various types of hearing damage. Use high volume responsibly!
Service
During the gurantee period, the balance reference phono may only be repaired
by the manufacturer, otherweise the warranty will become void.
All Clearaudio products should only be serviced by specialist retailer.
If despite the high production standard, a repair is necessary, the smart power 12V must be sent to Clearaudio through your dealer.
Transport
Always us the original packaging when transporting the Clearaudio smart power
12V. Be sure to pack the device exactly as it was shipped.
Safe transport is only guaranteed in the original packaging.
When packing, proceed in reverse as described for assembly.
Disposal
Do not dispose this product together with other waste. WEEE Reg. No.: DE26004446

Getting started
The Clearaudio smart power 12V is delivered in custom-designed packaging. Please keep this packaging to ensure safe transportation if needed.
Unpack the unit and place it at its desired location.
Connect the smart power 12V to the mains power supply with the supplied 19V
wall mount power supply. Then connect your turntable to the smart power 12V
using the attached power cord, instead of the usual power supply.
Note: Never connect the 19V power supply direct to your concept series turntable. Serious damage can occur.
Before using smart power 12V it is important to fully charge internal battery to bring it to the optimum operating condition (see page 5, point 3.3, “Charging mode”).
To switch the smart power 12V on, use the switch on the rear side of the unit.
The smart power 12V is now in the output/off mode, the LED ring of the button
on the front will brighten up and vanish after a few seconds.
Press the button shortly, to activate the unit and to supply the turntable with power.
Modes of operation
Output/off mode
The output/off mode is characterized by:
- The output is deactivated.
- The LED ring of the button is off.
Note: In this mode, if the battery is discharged, unit will start charging the battery automatically
Battery output mode
The battery output mode is characterized by:
- The output is activated.
- The LED ring is constantly on (not flashing).
Charging mode
The activated charging mode can be identified by the blinking LED ring of the
button. Please note:
The charging mode can be activated in every operation mode.
If the unit becomes completely discharged, smart power 12V will automatically
switch to charging mode.
When in battery mode, a long press (approx. 3 seconds) will manually start the
charging or top up process.
The LED ring confirms the activated charging mode by flashing.
Depending on the remaining charge of the integrated NiMh batteries, charging
time may vary.
When the battery is fully charged, charging mode will switch off
automatically.
To manually stop the charging process, long press (approx. 3 seconds) the
buttonagain.
The LED ring will shine constantly.
Please note:
Unit will take up to 30 seconds to completely start or stop the charging
process
Operating information
-
As long as a load is connected to the smart power 12V and the remaining charge level is sufficient for operation of the connected device there will be no charging.

A reduction of the output voltage of up to 4V between two charging cycles is normal.
Crucial for the correct speed of the turntable is a noise free current and not the absolute value.
This is ensured by battery-buffering and a special, linear regulation in the turntable. -
Switching off the unit is done using the power switch on the rear side of the smart power 12V .

By turning the knob on the back, the light of the LED ring on the front can be dimmed in all operating modes ( see Pic.1, red mark).

Troubleshooting
If you have a problem with your smart power 12V, first check the possible
causes to rule out incorrect operation.
If the error persists, please contact your dealer!
Never try to open the device and/or repair it yourself, this will void the warranty!

The full, extended warranty period for the smart power 12V is 2 years.
To receive this full Clearaudio warranty, you must either complete and return
the relevant section of the warranty registration card to Clearaudio, or
register your product online at

purchase. Otherwise only the legal warranty of 1 years can be considered.
The full 2 year warranty can only be honoured if the product is returned in
its original packing.
