OPERATION

USING THE SCARIFIER

WARNING! ALWAYS WEAR STURDY, NON-SLIP FOOTWEAR, LONG TROUSERS, SAFETY GLASSES AND HEARING PROTECTION WHEN USING THE EQUIPMENT. NEVER USE THE EQUIPMENT BAREFOOT OR IN SANDALS

Proper Use
The scarifying roller is designed for removing lawn thatch, moss and weeds from your lawn. It also helps loosens the soil in turn improving airflow and drainage which allows your lawn to better absorb nutrients and promotes growth. Before scarifying, your lawn should be cut; grass height not more than 5cm.
Scarifying can be done once a year before Spring, from about October through to February.

WARNING! DUE TO THE HIGH RISK OF BODILY INJURY TO THE USER, THE EQUIPMENT MAY NOT BE USED TO GRIND UP BRANCH OR HEDGE CLIPPINGS. IN ADDITION, THE EQUIPMENT MAY NOT BE USED AS A POWER CULTIVATOR TO LEVEL OUT HIGH AREAS.

Switching On and Off

To prevent accidental start up, the scarifier is fitted with a dual action switch.

  1. Press and hold the safety switch button.

  2. Pull the start/stop lever towards the handle to start the scarifier and then release the safety switch button.

  3. Release the start/stop lever to stop the scarifier.

WARNING! THE SCARIFIER ROLLER BLADE WILL STOP A FEW SECONDS AFTER THE START/STOP LEVER HAS BEEN RELEASED. BE AWARE OF THE NECESSARY TIME IT TAKES FOR THE ROLLER BLADE TO STOP. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO STOP THE ROLLER BLADE.

Run Time
The operating time of the PXC battery (the area in square meters that can be covered with a single battery charge) is largely dependent on the state of the grass (e.g. Density, moisture, height, scarifying height, etc.) and the scarifier speed (walking speed).
Frequently turning the equipment on and off while scarifying will also reduce the amount of area that you can cover. If the operating time of the PXC battery (area coverage) is still unsatisfactory in spite of the above measures, you can remedy the problem by using PXC battery with a larger capacity (Ah).

OPERATION TIPS
  • Cut your lawn before scarifying, grass height not more than 5cm.

  • It is recommended to start with smallest working depth position setting 2mm (shallowest) and complete a trial cut on a small section of the lawn and re-adjust if necessary.

  • Make sure the lawn is clear of sticks, stones, wire and debris; they could be thrown by the blade.

  • It is recommended not to use the Scarifier in poor visibility conditions, in the rain or when the grass is wet.

  • Always ensure that a safe distance (provided by the long handles) is maintained between the user and the housing.

  • Be especially careful when scarifying and changing direction on slopes and inclines.

  • Always scarify along the incline (not up and down).

  • For safety reasons, the scarifier may not be used to scarify inclines whose gradient exceeds 15 degrees.

  • Use special caution when backing up and pulling the scarifier (tripping hazard).

  • It is recommended that you overlap scarifying paths a little.

  • Try to scarify in straight lines for a nice, clean look. In so doing, the aeration swaths should always overlap each other by a few centimetres in order to avoid bare strips.

  • For optimum operation, always scarify in a straight line; do not swing the scarifier from side to side.

  • Keep the underside of the equipment clean and remove soil and grass build-up. Deposits make it more difficult to start the scarifier and decrease the quality of the scarifying.

WARNING! ALWAYS WEAR HEAVY DUTY GLOVES WHEN CLEANING THE EQUIPMENT, THE BLADES ARE VERY SHARP AND CAN CUT YOU WHEN IT IS NOT MOVING.

MAINTENANCE

WARNING! ALWAYS ENSURE THE SCARIFIER ROLLER BLADE HAS COMPLETELY STOPPED, REMOVE SAFETY KEY, BATTERY AND GRASS CATCHER PRIOR TO ANY MAINTENANCE.

Cleaning
  • Keep the ventilation slots of the machine clean at all times to ensure efficient operation.
  • After each use, blow it with compressed air at low pressure through the machine housing to ensure it is free from all dust, dirt, etc. Build up of dust or dirt particles may cause the machine to overheat and shorten the life of the machine.
  • If the housing of the machine requires cleaning, do not use solvents. Use of a soft cloth and brush only is recommended.
  • Never allow any liquid to get inside the machine, never immerse any part of the machine into liquid or clean the scarifier with running water, particularly with high-pressure water.
Maintenance
  • A worn out or damaged roller blade should be replaced by an authorized expert.
  • Take care that all fastening elements (screws, nuts, etc.) are firmly tightened, so that you can work safely with the scarifier.
  • Replace worn or damaged parts for safety.
Storage
  • When not in use, the machine should be stored in a dry, frost free location, keep out of children’s reach.
  • Store the equipment and its accessories in a dark and dry place at above freezing temperature. The ideal storage temperature is between 5 and 30°C.
  • Remove the battery and safety key from the scarifier when in storage.
  • Allow the motor to cool before you put the equipment in an enclosed area.
Transport
  • Switch the machine off and remove the battery and safety key before transporting it.
  • Set the front wheels to 0 position.
  • For easier transport and/or storage, open the T-nuts far enough to allow the handle to be flipped together at these points. Take care not to damage the cable and the handle tubes.
  • Protect the machine from damage and the strong vibrations that can occur particularly when transporting in vehicles.
  • Secure the machine against slipping and tipping over.

Note: Ozito Industries will not be responsible for any damage or injuries caused by the repair of the scarifier by an unauthorized person or by mishandling of the scarifier. This machine is designed for
DIY use – use in commercial or industrial environments will void the warranty.

Battery protection system

The tool/machine is equipped with the battery protection system, which helps to ensure a long service life.
The output power automatically cuts off during operation when the tool, machine and/or battery are placed under the following situations:

  • When the tool/machine is overloaded:
