Description
Silicone foam dressing is an absorbent, atraumatic dressing made from
polyurethane foam. The outer surface of the foam is bonded to a
vapourpermeable polyurethane membrane, which acts as a barrier to liquid and
microorganisms. The wound contact surface of Silicone foam dressing is coated
with a layer of soft silicone that does not stick to the surface of a wound or
cause trauma to delicate new tissue upon removal.
This soft silicone layer is also slightly tacky, which facilitates application
and retention of the dressing to intact skin, but does not cause epidermal
stripping or pain on removal.
The centre of the dressing is polyurethane foam that can lock exudate into the
product, preventing the wound bed from drying out and the surrounding skin
from becoming macerated.
Indications
The product is suitable for many types of exuding wounds, including leg and
pressure ulcers, superficial and partial thickness burns, donor sites,
postoperative wounds and skin abrasions. The dressing absorbs exudate and
maintains a moist woundhealing environment whilst minimising the risk of
maceration.
Contra-indications
Discontinue use if the patient is allergic to any components of the dressing.
Application method
- Make sure the wound area is clean and dry before using the dressing.
- A dressing should be selected that overlaps the wound margin by at least two centimetres.
- Remove the release film before use and adhesive the dressing on the wound area.
Frequency of dressing changes
The interval between changes will normally be determined by the degree of
exudate produced. The dressing may be left up to 7 days.
Warnings
Sloughy wounds dressed with silicone foam dressing may initially appear to
increase in size due to autolytic debridement promoted by the moist conditions
produced beneath the dressing. This is normal and to be expected.
Not for use with oxidizing solutions, such as Hypochlorite solution or
Hydrogen peroxide solution (H₂ O₂).
Storage
Silicone foam dressings are stored in a well-ventilated clean room with
relative humidity less than 80%, and no corrosive gases.
Other
Silicone foam dressings have been sterilized using ethylene oxide.
Do not reuse or resterilize product.
Do not use if package has been compromised.
