DESCRIPTION
The REFLEX MICRO-ESC is a small and versatile speed controller for brushed
motors up to 10 A. It smoothly and sensitively controls forward and reverse
travel and includes a 5 V BEC. With a PWM clock frequency of 20 kHz, there are
no annoying whistling noises.
The REFLEX MICRO-ESC is suitable for use in functional model building,
particularly for secondary, actuator and auxiliary drives, but also for the
complete drive systems of small models.
The small dimensions and simple connection mean that movements of trailer
supports and lifting arms as well as tilting functions or rotary movements can
be easily implemented and controlled. The model is braked smoothly with the
EMK motor brake. As soon as the throttle is reduced and the throttle channel
is in neutral (centre position), the speed controller actively brakes until
the model comes to a standstill.
The motor speed is continuously monitored to ensure gentle operation of the
motor and battery. This is particularly important when changing between
forward and reverse travel. Before reversing the polarity, the motor is braked
to a standstill and only then accelerated in the other direction.
The speed controller does not require any additional programming of the
transmitter. The zero point range (centre position) of the throttle channel is
1,500 ms, which is suitable for almost all remote controls.
The micro speed controller uses acoustic signals to warn of overtemperature,
overcurrent and missing throttle channel signal from the receiver.
The speed controller has the following features:
- Supply voltage: 6 -16 V
- max. motor current 10 A
- Short-circuit proof BEC with 5.0 V, 0.5 A continuous current (briefly 1 A)
- PWM clock frequency 20 kHz
- 1 proportional input
- Failsafe in the event of reception interference (motor stop)
- Temperature monitoring Overcurrent monitoring/short-circuit protection of motor output stage
SAFETY INFORMATION
- Read these operating instructions carefully before starting operation and keep them for future use!
- The integrated circuits on the speed controller are sensitive to electrostatic charging. Do not touch these components before you have „discharged” yourself (e.g. by touching a radiator or other earthed device).
- Unfavourable placement or wiring of the speed controller in the model can, under certain circumstances, limit the range of the transmitter (typically with 35/40 MHz transmitters).
- Ensure adequate ventilation during installation. The speed controller can get warm.
- The speed controller may only be operated with the supply voltages specified in the technical data.
- Wiring may only be carried out when the power is off.
- Protect the micro speed controller from moisture, moisture and the effects of heat.
- The speed controller is not suitable for use by children under the age of 14.

CONNECTION DIAGRAM
CONNECTION OF THE SPEED CONTOLLER
Always carry out all connection work when the supply voltage is switched off!
Connection of the supply voltage (battery):
The speed controller is designed for a DC voltage of 6 -16 V. The red cable is
connected to the positive pole of the battery, the black cable to the negative
pole of the battery.
Pay attention to the correct polarity of the supply voltage! Reverse polarity
will destroy the speed controller immediately!
Motor connection:
The yellow cable is connected to the positive terminal of the motor. The blue
cable is connected to the negative terminal of the motor.
If the direction of travel in the model is later incorrect (forward and
reverse swapped), the connections on the motor must be reversed.
Connection to the receiver:
A servo cable is soldered to the REFLEX MICRO-ESC, which is plugged into the
RC receiver.
The speed controller does not require any additional programming of the
transmitter. The zero point range is fixed at 1,500 ms. This is the
appropriate setting for most remote controls. The full throttle value forward
is 2,000 ms and full throttle reverse is 1,000 ms. If necessary, the settings
must be adjusted directly on the remote control.
The speed controller has a SEC power supply of 5 V and a continuous current of
0.5 A for the receiver, so no additional receiver battery is required. The BEC
system is short-circuit-proof, overload-proof and can withstand a current of 1
A for a short time.
If several or more powerful servos are operated, an external BEC is also
required.
If the model already has a BEC voltage (e.g. from another speed controller or
receiver battery), the red wire of the servo cable on the REFLEX MICRO-ESC
must be disconnected!
MOTOR BRAKE
With the REFLEX MICRO-ESC, the model is braked gently and jerk-free by the EMK motor brake and secured to prevent rolling away, e.g. on a slope. The brake engages as soon as the throttle stick is in the neutral (centre) position. When „rolling”, the motor is braked more and more until it comes to a standstill. When accelerating, the motor brake is released automatically. The EMK brake is not as effective as a real mechanical brake. If there is a strong incline, the model may still roll away.
GENTLE POLARITY REVERSAL
The motor speed is continuously monitored to ensure gentle operation of the motor and battery. This is particularly important when changing between forward and reverse travel. Before reversing the polarity, the motor is braked to a standstill and only then accelerated in the other direction. This way, current peaks on the motor and battery can be avoided.
SAFETY AND WARNING FUNCTIONS ON THE SPEED CONTROLLER
For maximum safety when using the micro speed controller, the controller emits acoustic warning and status signals via the motor. When the supply voltage is switched on, a motor beeper sounds once. If no correct signals are received from the receiver throttle channel via the servo cable, the micro-speed controller stops the motor for safety reasons (failsafe). If an overcurrent or short circuit is detected at the motor output stage, the motor control is switched off immediately and three motor beeps sound every 10 s. The REFLEX MICRO-ESC has a temperature sensor that continuously measures the temperature. If the temperature rises above approx. 80°C, four acoustic beeps sound every 10 seconds and the motor is switched off for protection. This helps to prevent overheating and faults in the speed controller. To restart the motor after an overcurrent or overtemperature warning, the supply voltage must be disconnected and reconnected.
STATUS/ERROR | MOTOR BEEPER | REPEAT ALL |

Overcurrent | 3x | 10s |
Overtemperature | 4x | 10s |
