Rubbermaid Commercial 800565 Power Kit
DESCRIPTION
This kit provides power assist to Rubbermaid Commercial housekeeping carts and platform and tilt trucks. These motorized kits are not designed for home-use.
This machine was built to be operated according to the rules for safe operation included in this manual. As with any type of power equipment, carelessness, or error on the part of the operator can result in serious injury.
When using electric machinery, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. Please read this operation guide in its entirety.
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS
This machine was built to be operated according to the rules for safe operation included in this manual. As with any type of power equipment, carelessness, or error on the part of the operator can result in serious injury. These machines can knock down and run over the operator. Always keep in mind that a fully loaded cart or truck cannot stop instantaneously
GENERAL OPERATION
- Read this operation manual carefully in its entirety before assembling or operating this machine. Read, understand, and follow all instructions on the machine and in the manuals before operation. Familiarize yourself with the controls and proper use of this machine before operation. Save this manual for future and regular reference and ensure new users of the machine read this operation manual before operating the machine.
- Don’t overreach, always keep proper footing and balance.
- Injuries may occur due to the machine being pulled over the foot during a fall caused by slipping or tripping. A slip and fall can cause serious personal injury. If you feel you are losing your footing, release the control paddles.
- Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery pack outside of the temperature range specified in the instructions. Charging improperly or at temperatures outside of the specified range may damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.
- Do not modify or attempt to repair the machine or the battery pack.
- Use only approved batteries and chargers. Non-approved batteries and chargers may cause damage to the machine or injure the operator.
- Do not dispose of the battery in a fire. The cells could catch fire or explode. Check with local codes and waste management for proper recycling or disposal instructions.
- When the battery pack is not in use, keep the battery away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws, or other small metal objects that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
- Do not open or destroy the battery. Electrolytes contained within the battery are corrosive and may cause damage to eyes or skin if released. Electrolytes may be toxic if swallowed.
- Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush for 15 minutes with water. If liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.
- Do not expose a battery pack or appliance to fire or excessive temperature. Exposure to fire or temperature above 266°F (130°C) may cause explosion.
- Exercise care in handling batteries to avoid shorting the battery with conducting materials such as rings, bracelets, keys, etc. The battery or conductor may overheat and cause burns if contact with said materials is made.
- Do not use a battery pack or appliance that is damaged or modified. Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behavior resulting in fire, explosion, or risk of injury. If battery is damaged and needs to be replaced, contact Rubbermaid Commercial Products Customer Service toll free at 800-347-9800 Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Eastern.
SERVICE/OPERATION
- Keep all nuts, bolts, and screws tight to ensure the equipment is in safe working condition.
- Always remove battery pack from machines before adjusting, cleaning, or repairing.
- If situations occur that are not covered in this manual, use care and good judgment, or contact Customer Service for assistance.
- Before each use, examine the machine for damaged, missing, or loose parts such as screws, nuts, bolts, and caps.
- Tighten correctly all the fasteners and caps.
- Clean the machine with a dry cloth. Do not use water.
- Powered trucks and carts are designed for dry indoor use or on dry paved lots. Do not use in rainy or flooded conditions.
- Do not run trucks or carts over wet floors or through spills.

USE OF MACHINE AROUND CHILDREN & BYSTANDERS
Accidents can occur if the operator is not alert to the presence of children or bystanders.
- Do not open or destroy the battery. Electrolytes contained within the battery are corrosive and may cause damage to eyes or skin if released. Electrolytes may be toxic if swallowed.
- Keep the area of operation clear of all persons, particularly small children, and pets.
- Use extreme care when approaching blind corners, doorways, or other objects that may obscure your vision of a child or bystander. Stop the machine if anyone enters the area.
- Never allow anyone under 18 years old to operate the machine or allow any persons 18+ with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the machine by a person responsible for their safety. Operators 18 years old and over should fully read and understand the operators’ manual and safety rules. Only responsible individuals who are familiar with these rules of safe operation should be allowed to use this machine.

BATTERY WARNING & ENVIRONMENTALLY SAFE BATTERY DISPOSAL
If the battery pack cracks or breaks, with or without leaks, do not recharge it and do not use. Discard the damaged battery and replace with a new battery pack. DO NOT TRY TO REPAIR BATTERY! To prevent injury and risk of fire, explosion, or electric shock, and to avoid damage to the environment:
- Cover the terminals of the battery with heavy-duty adhesive tape.
- DO NOT try to remove or destroy any of the battery pack components.
- DO NOT try to open the battery pack.
- If a leak develops, the released electrolytes are corrosive and toxic. DO NOT get the solution in the eyes or on skin, and do not swallow it.
- DO NOT place these batteries in your regular household trash.
- When discarding a battery, take the battery to a local recycling and/or disposal center certified for lithium-ion disposal.
- DO NOT incinerate the machine, any parts thereof, or batteries.
- DO NOT put the battery where it will become part of any waste landfill or municipal solid waste stream.
- Discard all toxic materials in a specified manner to prevent contamination of the environment. Before discarding damaged or worn-out Li-ion battery, contact your local waste disposal agency, or the local Environmental Protection Agency for information and specific instructions.

INSTALL THE BATTERY
There are two battery slots in the battery compartment. The left-hand battery slot controls the battery power. The right-hand slot is unpowered spare battery storage that can be used to extend the work cycle.
To install a battery:
- Open the battery door (Platform Truck/Tilt Truck).
- Align the grooves on the battery with the ribs in the left-hand battery slot.
- Push the battery into the battery slot until the battery locks in place. The battery contacts will engage, and the latch will drop into place.
- Close the battery cover.
TURN ON THE HAND CONTROLLER
The safety key functions as an on/off switch. The safety key is also the emergency stop switch. In an emergency, pulling the safety key will cut power to the motor and the machine will coast to a stop.
To power on the system:
- Make sure there is a charged battery in the battery compartment’s left-hand slot.
- Insert the safety key into the hand controller’s system and the motor energize.
In case of emergency:
Pull the safety key.
Your cart or truck will de-energize and roll to a stop.
ADJUST THE HAND CONTROLLER
You can adjust the speed and direction of the motor. Use the knob at the top left of the hand controller to adjust the speed of the hand controller. Use the switch at the right to adjust the motor to forward or reverse.
Adjust the speed:
- Turn the knob to the left to slow the motor.
- Turn the knob to the right to speed up the motor.
Set the motor to forward or reverse.
- Press “F” to set the motor to forward travel.
- Press “R” to set the motor to reverse travel.
START/STOP MOTION
Grab the handle, squeeze and hold the right-hand paddle to start movement. Release the paddle(s) to stop. On brake equipped systems, squeeze the left paddle to quickly stop motion.
NOTE: The Housekeeping cart does not have brakes. You may squeeze either or both paddles to start motion. You must release both paddles to stop motion.
CHANGING BATTERIES
While working, you may notice the machine is slowing down. Check the battery as shown below. If it is low and there is another charged battery, change batteries.
CHECK BATTERY CAPACITY
Press the battery capacity indicator (BCI) button. The lights will illuminate according to the remaining battery capacity level. See chart below:

CHANGING BATTERIES CONTINUED
Change the batteries as follows:
- Stop the machine.
- Pull the safety key to turn off the controls.
- Lift the battery cover.
- Lift and hold up the left battery latch.
- Pull out the left battery and lay it aside.
- Lift and hold up the right battery latch.
- Pull out the right battery and align and push it into the left slot.
- Put the discharged battery into the right slot.
- Close the battery door.
- Insert safety key and return to work.
NOTE: If you do not have a spare battery, the machine can still be used manually without power. The empty battery should be taken back to the charger to be fully charged for next use.
END OF WORK SHIFT
At the end of the work shift:
- Return your machine to its storage location.
- Pull the safety key to shut down the controls.
- Remove the batteries (1) and place them on a charger (2).
- Make sure the charger is plugged in and the green light (3) is flashing.

Products and Motorized Product Accessories
Rubbermaid Commercial Products LLC warrants that for a period of two years from the date of purchase by the original end-user purchaser, the items listed below will be free from defects in material and workmanship. Rubbermaid Commercial Products LLC, at its option, will replace, free of charge with postage costs paid for (excluding any costs associated with packaging the defective item back to the manufacturer), the item or any component of the item found to be defective during the warranty period. Keep the original sales receipt, invoice, or other proof of purchase. Proof of purchase is required to obtain warranty replacement. This limited warranty is valid only for units which have been maintained in accordance with the instructions in the owner.

How long does the coverage last?
The limited warranty lasts two years from the date of initial purchase. Proof of purchase is required to obtain warranty replacement.
What will Rubbermaid Commercial Products do?
For a period of two years from the date of purchase, if an item in the table set forth above proves defective in material and workmanship during normal use by the purchaser of this product, Rubbermaid Commercial Products will replace the item, or any component of the item found to be defective during the warranty period with a new or remanufactured replacement part at no cost to the purchaser. If the item is no longer available, then replacement will be made with a similar item of equal or greater value. This is your exclusive warranty.
What does this warranty not cover?
The warranty applies only to the original end-user purchaser/owner from the date of initial purchase and is not transferable (excepted where prohibited by local law, which may include the Province of Quebec). Do NOT attempt to repair or modify the items to remedy any damage or defect covered by this limited warranty. Rubbermaid Commercial Products LLC reserves all rights to decline coverage if the defect or damage was caused by unauthorized attempts to repair or modify the item. All failures or defects must be reported within the warranty period. Any use of the product for purposes other than its intended use will void this limited warranty. Damage caused because of use above capacity limits of the product are not covered by this limited warranty. This limited warranty does not cover normal wear or damage resulting negligent use or misuse, disassembly, repair, or modification, or from storing the unit outside of recommended shady, cool, and dry environments. Rubbermaid Commercial Products LLC expressly excludes from this limited warranty and denies liability for defects or damage caused by repair or modification.
How do you get warranty support?
RCP will issue a replacement of the item, or any component of the item found to be defective when the consumer provides a proof of purchase (either a bill of sale, receipted invoice, or other proof that the product is within the warranty period), along with a full description of the defect, to www.rubbermaidcommercial.com/contact-us/ or Toll Free 800-347-9800 Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Eastern. Rubbermaid Commercial Products reserves the right to request photographic proof of product defect, and request that the defective product in question be shipped to Rubbermaid Commercial Products (postage provided by Rubbermaid Commercial Products) to inspect the product or to aid in quality control efforts.
THIS LIMITED WARRANTY IS EXCLUSIVE AND IN LIEU OF ANY OTHER WARRANTY, WRITTEN OR ORAL, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ANY EXPRESS WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
