Product Information: Bowl for Hemispherical Sundial
This bowl is designed for use with a hemispherical sundial and is specifically designed for locations that fall on latitude 30 degrees south. The sundial’s horizon ring and gnomons are also designed to work in conjunction with this bowl to accurately tell time based on the sun’s position.
Product Usage Instructions
- Choose a location that has an unobstructed view of the sky and receives ample sunlight throughout the day.
- Place the bowl on a flat surface, ensuring it is level and secure.
- Insert the horizon ring into the bowl, aligning it with the markings on the bowl that indicate latitude 30 degrees south. Ensure it is seated properly and securely.
- Insert the gnomons into the holes on the horizon ring, aligning them with the markings that correspond to the current date.
- Wait until the sun is at its highest point in the sky (noon) and adjust the gnomons as necessary to align with the shadow created by the sun. This will allow you to determine the correct time based on the markings on the horizon ring. Throughout the day, observe the movement of the shadow and adjust the gnomons as necessary to keep them aligned with the shadow. This will allow you to accurately tell time based on the position of the sun in the sky.
- When done using the sundial, remove the gnomons and horizon ring from the bowl and store them in a safe place. The bowl can be left in place or stored as desired.
