Scope

This product can be used to determine the level of protection provided by propylene glycol vehicle coolant solutions. Protection is dependent on the ratio of water and antifreeze chemicals in the solution.

  • Measuring range: -46 to -7°C

Health and Safety Instructions

Important: Refer to the vehicle manufacturer’s manual or the appropriate Haynes workshop manual before EVERY use.
WARNING:  Antifreeze solution is toxic; ALWAYS read t he label. If it comes into contact with your eyes or skin, immediately flush with plenty of water. If it is swallowed, drink plenty of water. In all cases, and seek medical attention immediately.

Operation

Important: Read the Health and Safety information before attempting to use this product. ALWAYS allow the radiator to cool before removing the cap. To avoid separation of the coolant solution, test the solution while hot, after bringing the vehicle up to temperature and then allowing the radiator to cool.

  1. Run the vehicle engine to normal temperature if necessary to mix fresh coolant.

  2. Carefully remove the radiator cap using a cloth and gloves.
WARNING: ALWAYS allow the radiator to cool befor e opening it. The cooling system may still be pressurised when opened and emit hot steam, which can cause burns.

  3. Insert the tester tube into the radiator reservoir and squeeze the rubber bulb to draw fluid into the tester so that it is almost full.
Important: If the coolant solution is dirty or rusty, drain, flush and refill the radiator, then clean the tester and redraw the solution to the fluid line.

  4. Remove the tube from the reservoir and squeeze the bulb lightly to expel any air bubbles from the fluid.

  5. Allow the discs to settle and observe the number of discs that are floating (see below).

  6. Flush the tester with hot soapy water and rinse clean with warm water after use.

Disposal: At the end of its working life, dispose of the product responsibly and in line with local regulations. Recycle where possible.
