Configuring the monitor
The USB-C device must support DP-Alternate or Thunderbolt™ 3 mode on the its
USB-C port to view video output on 1 or more displays. Check the Technical
specifications of the USB-C device if it supports DP-Alternate mode or
Thunderbolt™ 3. If your device does not support DP-Alternate mode or
Thunderbolt™ 3, the AC7047 will not be able to display video on the displays
Note!!! In order for the AC7047 to be able to display the maximum
resolution of 4K on all three monitors, the PC/notebook must further support
DP1.4 and DSC.
Check the technical specifications of your PC/Notebook if DSC and DP1.4 are
supported.
4.1 Single monitor
For single monitor configuration, the AC7047 docking station supports a max.
resolution of 4K at 60Hz via HDMI or DisplayPort (DP).
4.2 Dual monitors (SST/MST)
For dual monitor setup, the AC7047 docking station supports a max.
4K resolution at 60Hz over HDMI or DisplayPort (DP).
4.3 Triple monitor (SST/MST)
For triple monitor setup, the AC7047 docking station supports one max
resolution of 1x 4K @ 30Hz over HDMI or DisplayPort (DP) and the latter and
third monitor to 1080P @ 60Hz if DSC is not supported by laptop. If the laptop
supports DSC, you will be able to use a maximum resolution of 4K @ 30Hz on all
three screens.
4.4 Single Stream Transport (SST)
With SST (Single Stream Transport) connected screens will only show one clone
(copy) the home screen to connected screens.
4.5 Multi-Stream Transport (MST)
MST is part of the DisplayPort 1.2 standard, with which monitors and computers
can support “daisy-chaining”. You usually recognize the link to daisy chain
when the monitor has both a DisplayPort input and output. It’s possible
connect the first monitor to the computer and the second monitor to the first
monitor. If it is the monitor and computer support MST daisy chain, the two
displays they work as separate screens. Exactly as if they were connected
directly to the computer.
If your notebook supports DP alt mode (DisplayPort Alternate Mode), it
supports also STDs. In that case the AC7047 will function as a USB-C to MST
adapter.
You will be able to use the multiple video outputs. Connected screens come
recognized as separate screens on the laptop/PC and can be used as extended
desktop.
Windows 10 has a hotkey to switch between different modes view:
Use: “Windows key + P”, an overview of the display modes is displayed on the
screen.
Note!!! MacOS does not support MST daisy chaining. macOS supports only daisy chaining with the Thunderbolt™ 3 standard. Hence, the AC7047 does not provide the desired result for macOS devices. If so, the screens connected show only a clone (copy) of the home screen on the screens connected, also referred to as Single Stream Transport (SST).
Power Delivery
The AC7047 supports Power Delivery (PD) over the USB-C port. This protocol
allows you to charge your notebook securely via a single USB-C cable. A
footnote: all devices within the power chain must support Power Delivery.
Including USB-C cables. Devices and cables have integrated chips that
communicate with each other to decide the best PD profile in order to ensure
safe power delivery.
For example, if you connect a 45.0W USB-C charger to the AC7047 (it supports i
PD profiles up to 100.0 W) and the notebook supports a USB-C PD profile of
max. 65.0W,
the max. power supplied to the notebook is 45.0 W.
If for some reason in the above example, the USB-C cable is replaced by a
USB-C cable that does not support PD (no built-in chip), the notebook does not
come loaded.
On top of all this, USB-C with PD allows for bi-directional charging. For
example, it is It is possible to charge the smartphone with the tablet, but
also the tablet with the smartphone.
What Power Delivery profiles are available? 5.0V, 9.0V, 12.0V, 15.0V and
20.0V.
Which profiles Power Delivery max. are supported by the AC7047:
5,0 V | 3,0 A | 15,0 W |
---|---|---|
9,0 V | 3,0 A | 27,0 W |
12,0 V | 3,0 A | 36,0 W |
15,0 V | 3,0 A | 45,0 W |
20,0 V | 5,0 A | 100,0 W |
