Setup Procedure:

  1. Insert and securely fasten the Solar Wedge at the rear end of your refractor telescope using the thumbscrews on telescope’s focuser. The Solar Wedge replaces your existing diagonal mirror.
  2. Insert a 1.25″ eyepiece into the (A) 1.25″-2″ adapter on the back of the Solar Wedge. Alternatively, use the twist lock to remove the adapter to use 2″ eyepieces, Barlows or nosepieces. Secure the eyepiece with the provided thumbscrew (C).
  3. Point the telescope at the sun. A glowing ball of light should now be visible on the energy diffusion screen at the back of the Solar Wedge. Centre the glowing ball of light in the diffusing screen. Use your focuser to adjust focus.
  4. You are ready to look through the eyepiece. Brightness can be adjusted by rotating the (B) brightness adjustment turret. When the correct brightness is achieved, lock the (D) thumbscrew. Please note if you are using a Barlow or filter, always place them on the output side of the Herschel Wedge to prevent damage and injury.
