PENTAIR Myers RG-10 Grinder Pump
NOTE: To the installer: Please make sure you provide this manual to the owner of the equipment or to the responsible party who maintains the system.
USAGE
The RG-10 is a submersible wastewater grinder pump designed specifically for residential applications. These pumps are to be used for residential domestic sewage only and are not to be used for pumping commercial or industrial sewage such as from motels, schools, apartments, factories, etc.
CALIFORNIA PROPOSITION 65 WARNING
WARNING: This product and related accessories contain chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.
INSPECTING PUMP
Before making any piping or electrical connections, check the pump for shipping damage or cracks. Using a flat screwdriver placed in the slot on the shaft end, turn the shaft and impellers to be sure they are free, DO NOT TURN IMPELLER WITH FINGERS AS EDGES ARE SHARP.
CAUTION: NEVER WORK ON THE UNIT WITHOUT DISCONNECTING THE ELECTRICAL POWER CORD.
GRINDER COMPONENT CLEARANCES
If the shaft and impellers do not turn freely, the grindingimpeller may be contacting the grinder ring. The diametric clearance should be .005/.00″ (.0025/.004 per side). If the grinding impeller rubs on the grinding ring, loosen the four bolts that hold the volute case in place. With a rubber hammer, tap the volute until the shaft turns freely, retighten the bolts down evenly.
POWER SUPPLY
The RG-10 grinder pump should only be connected to a 230 volt, single phase, 60 Hertz power source. The pump will draw approximately 8.2 amperes at minimum flow and 11.0 amperes at maximum flow rate. Locked rotor current is 35 amperes. The pump must be connected to a grounded power socket. Do NOT cut off the ground pin from the power cord plug.
POWER CORD
A 20 foot power cord is attached to the grinder pump via a quick-disconnect positive sealing socket design. To replace cord simply unscrew (turn counterclockwise) the thermoplastic cord nut from the socket on the pump’s cap. With the nut unscrewed and moved up the cord a few inches, grasp the upper end of the cord end connector and pull and wiggle the connector from the socket. The power cord should be replaced if it has been damaged in any way or the cord jacket has become brittle.
FLOAT CONTROL
The float control has the same type of cord end connector as the power cord. If a replacement control needs installed, the cord tether length between the clamp and the float should be a minimum of 4″ to allow proper operation. The “OFF” and “ON” cycle times can be increased by setting a slightly longer tether length between the clamp and the float.
MOTOR
The RG-10 grinder pump contains a single phase, capacitor start, 3450 RPM motor. Resistance at the motor terminals is 2.0 ohms. Resistance at the end of a 20 foot cord is 2.5 to 3.0 ohms. Overload protection is provided by an on- winding thermal protector which opens upon experiencing higher than normal temperatures. The protector will re-set automatically upon cooling and the motor will re-start.
OIL LEVEL
The motor chamber contains dielectric transformer oil to provide good heat transfer and lubrication of the ball bearings and seal, no other lubrication is required. Oil level may be checked by removing the oil fill plug from the side of the motor housing. The oil level should be just at the bottom of the oil fill hole with the pump setting vertically. Do not over fill with oil. Only dielectric oil obtained from a Myers authorized service center should be used. Tighten the oil plug firmly.
CLEANING THE VOLUTE CASE
- Remove the four bolts from the grinder volute case and pull the volute case straight out from the seal plate. Use a plastic hammer, if necessary, to loosen.
- Clean the volute case and check for blockage of the discharge channel. Do not remove the impellers.
- By turning the impellers clockwise, check that the impellers and motor turn; there will be some drag due to shaft seal friction
- Before replacing the volute case, check that the small air vent groove on the upper surface of the volute is free of debris.
- Set the case on the seal plate and start the four bolts through the volute and into the plate. Lightly tighten the bolts evenly.
- Place a screwdriver in the shaft end slot and turn to be sure that the impellers turn freely. Some drag, due to the seals, will be present, but there should not be any binding spots.
- If the impeller rubs, slightly loosed the four bolts and tap the case with a plastic hammer until the impeller does not rub. Then tighten the bolts down evenly.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
The pump does not run or hum.
See A, B, C, D, E or F.
| A. Line circuit breaker may be off; or fuse may be blown or loose.
B. Water level in sump may be too low. Run in more water.
C. Pump cord plug may not be making contact in the receptacle.
D. If pump is using the series cord plug, the two plugs may not be plugged tight together.
E. Float may be stuck. Be sure float operates freely in basin. Check tether length of switch.
F. If all symptoms check OK, motor winding may be open; take to service center for repair.
G. Check valve may be installed backwards. Arrow on valve points in direction of flow.
H. Discharge shut-off valve, if used, may be closed.
I. Pump may be air locked. Start & stop several times by plugging & unplugging cord. Check vent hole on pump case for plugging.

Impeller or volute openings may be plugged or partially
plugged. Remove pump & clean. Check tether length of switch.
Float is stuck in up position. Be sure float operates freely in basin.
Pump impeller may be partially clogged causing motor to run slow, resulting in motor overload.
Fuse size or circuit breaker is too small. Must be 15 amps. Defective motor stator. Return to Myers service center.
The pump runs but does not deliver water.
See G, H, I, J, K or L.
