WHAT IS THE SHARK APEX DUOCLEAN POWERED LIFT-AWAY SPEED?

More compact and lighter than the fullsize option, the APEX Speed is Shark’s most advanced compact upright vacuum. With two brushrolls working together, DuoClean technology deep-cleans carpets and bare floors. Advanced Anti- Allergen Complete Seal technology keeps dirt and allergens from escaping back into the air that you breathe. The vacuum pod detaches easily for portable multi-floor cleaning, and Noise Reduction and Active-Glide technology deliver a quieter and smoother vacuuming experience.

WHAT IS SHARK ADVANCED ANTI-ALLERGEN COMPLETE SEAL TECHNOLOGY?

In an unsealed HEPA vacuum, dirt and allergens you vacuum up can escape back into the air that you breathe before they even reach the HEPA filter. With Advanced Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology incorporated into the HEPA filter, the APEX Speed emits 10x fewer particles than HEPA standards require. -Based on ASTM F1977 of particles 0.3 microns and larger.

The Shark APEX DuoClean Powered Lift-Away Speed is equipped with DuoClean Technology: a dual-brushroll system featuring a bristle brush to deep-clean carpets, and an additional soft brushroll to pull in larger particles and directly engage floors for a polished look. WHAT IS POWERED LIFT-AWAY?

Powered Lift-Away extends your reach so you can clean every tough-to-reach access of your home at the push of a button. The pod detaches so the motorized floor nozzle can access baseboards and corners, and under tables, beds, and other furniture. Remove the nozzle or wand to clean ceilings, stairs, and other above-floor areas.

These are designed to last the life of the product, which means there are no hidden maintenance costs. -Lifetime filters: The APEX Speed has a filter system that will last the life of your vacuum, with minimal maintenance and no replacement costs required. Your filters will discolor over time but will not lose their effectiveness. -Lifetime belts: The APEX Speed’s intelligent electronic system will shut off the motorized floor nozzle to avoid belt wear if the brushroll is blocked by a large object, such as a sock or carpet edge. Simply turn off the power, unplug the vacuum, remove the obstruction, and return to vacuuming ” with no belt maintenance or replacement costs to worry about.

The powerful LED headlights are designed to illuminate debris in dark spaces to make cleaning even more efficient. Headlights will illuminate whenever the power is on and are designed to last the life of the vacuum.

HOW DO I BEGIN CLEANING?

The Shark APEX DuoClean Powered Lift-Away Speed has three powerful settings for cleaning. -For bare floors, delicate area rugs, and when using accessories: Press the power button on the vacuum pod to turn on suction, then slide the surface selector to “Hard Floor.” Tilt the handle back while you gently step on the floor nozzle. Note that the brushrolls will spin slowly in this mode. -For low pile carpets: Press the power button on the vacuum to turn on the suction. Slide the surface selector to “Carpet/Low Pile”. While the power is on, tilt the handle back while you gently step on the floor nozzle. The brushrolls will begin spinning. -For thick carpets and area rugs: Press the power button on the vacuum to turn on the suction. Slide the surface selector to “Thick Carpet/Area Rug”. While the power is on, tilt the handle back while you gently step on the floor nozzle. The brushrolls will begin spinning.

HOW DO I TURN THE VACUUM OFF?

To turn the vacuum off, press the power button. The next time you turn the vacuum on, it will start in the mode in which you left it.

HOW DO I REMOVE THE HANDLE TO CLEAN ABOVE-FLOOR AREAS?

Press the handle release button on the back of the handle with one hand. Gently pull up with the other hand to remove the handle from wand. Add the desired accessory and begin cleaning.

HOW DO I REMOVE BOTH THE HANDLE AND THE WAND TO CLEAN ABOVE-FLOOR AREAS?

First, remove the cord from the cord clip, then press the wand release button located near the top of the pod behind the wand. Gently pull up on the handle to remove the wand from the floor nozzle. Add the desired accessory to the end of the wand and begin cleaning. To replace,return the end of the wand to its connection point on the back of the pod and press down until it clicks into place.

HOW DO I DETACH THE POD FOR PORTABLE CLEANING?

Lift-Away cleaning mode allows you to vacuum anywhere. To convert from upright to Lift-Away mode, quickly release the cord by turning the top cord wrap. Then press the Lift-Away and Wand Release buttons on the top of the pod. This will unlock the handle with wand and detach the pod from the floor nozzle. These buttons can be pushed at the same time to release both at once, or pushed separately if you want to release just the canister or just the cleaning wand. Next, pull the pod up by the handle while gently stepping on the floor nozzle. You are now ready to clean stairs, your car, and other hard-to-reach areas. You can attach the cord to the cord hook just below the handle to keep it out of your way while vacuuming.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CLEAN THE FILTERS?

Clean filters regularly for optimal performance. Between washings, tap filters clean over the trash to remove excess dust and other particles. -Pre-motor foam filter: Under normal usage, rinse and let air-dry completely (for at least 24 hours). We recommend washing every 3 months. -Pre-motor felt filter: Under normal usage, rinse and let air-dry completely (for at least 24 hours). We recommend washing every 3 months. -Pre-HEPA & HEPA filter: Under normal usage, rinse and air-dry once every 12 months or as needed.

HOW DO I WASH THE PRE-MOTOR FILTERS?

Make sure the unit is unplugged. Remove the dust cup and pull the flat foam filter out from the motor housing. Then remove the felt filter using the small ribbon pull-tab. Rinse filters thoroughly in lukewarm water until the water runs clear. Squeeze out excess water and let air-dry completely for at least 24 hours before replacing. Do not place filters in the dishwasher or washing machine. To replace inside the vacuum once dry, put the felt filter in first, then add the foam filter.

HOW DO I CLEAN THE POST-MOTOR, PRE-HEPA, AND HEPA FILTERS?

Make sure the unit is unplugged. Remove the filter cover from the front of the vacuum by pulling the latch from under the motor housing. Remove the HEPA filter cartridge, pull off the pre-HEPA filter and rinse them both under lukewarm water, dirty side down, until the water runs clear. Allow the filters to air-dry completely for 24 hours. Once the filters are dry, snap them back together and place them back into the vacuum, then replace the cover by lining up the tabs on one side and swinging the door securely closed until it clicks into place.

HOW DO I KNOW WHEN MY FILTERS NEED TO BE CLEANED?

Filters may need to be cleaned if the vacuum is not picking up dirt, airflow is restricted, or if you notice lighter or no suction. To maintain optimal performance, tap filters clean periodically and wash them according to the regular cleaning schedule to maintain optimal performance.

HOW DO I OPEN THE BRUSHROLL GARAGE AND REMOVE THE BRUSHROLL?

Make sure the unit is unplugged. To open the brushroll garage, push up both sliders on the floor nozzle simultaneously and the lid will pop open. To remove any string, hair, or debris that may be wrapped around the brushroll, use scissors to cut along the groove. Close the brushroll garage lid completely before using vacuum. Press down on both sides of the lid until it clicks into place.

HOW DO I REMOVE AND MAINTAIN THE SOFT ROLLER?

The soft roller pull-tab is located on the right side of the nozzle and can only be accessed once the brushroll garage lid is off. If needed, wash the soft roller using only water and let air-dry completely for at least 24 hours. Do not put brushroll in the dishwasher or washing machine.

WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM CAPACITY OF THE DUST CUP CONTAINER?

The dust cup holds 0.9 dry quarts to the max fill line. It has an easy, bottom-empty design for quick removal of debris.

HOW DO I REMOVE THE DUST CUP?

Pinch the Dust Cup Release latches on the rear top of the dust cup handle and lift the dust cup up and away from the vacuum body. Note: The dust cup should be emptied each time you vacuum and periodically during cleaning, when the dust cup appears full.

HOW DO I EMPTY THE DUST CUP?

Hold the dust cup over the trash and press the bottom door release button on the front of the unit. Tap gently to empty contents. To close, press the door shut until it clicks into place. If needed, turn the dust cup upside down over the trash and press the top door release button. Tap gently to remove contents or wipe clean with a soft cloth.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I EMPTY THE DUST CUP?

For optimal performance, empty the dust cup when debris reaches the max fill line.

WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM DIRT CAPACITY FOR THE DUST CUP CONTAINER?

HOW DO I ASSEMBLE THE VACUUM?

  • Insert the wand into the floor nozzle.
  • Insert the handle into the wand.
  •  Place the pod onto the wand and slide down to connect.
  •  Connect the hose to the back of the pod, pushing in firmly until it clicks into place.

For proper operation, ensure all parts are firmly clicked into place.

HOW DO I DETACH THE POD FOR PORTABLE CLEANING?

To clean floors in Powered Lift-Away mode:

  • First release the power cord by turning the top cord hook.
  • Then press the Lift-Away button on the top of the pod and lift the pod off the floor nozzle.
  • Use the surface selector on the handle to choose the appropriate floor setting.

To clean above floors in Lift-Away mode with the handle or handle with wand:

  • First detach the pod.
  • Press the Handle Release button to detach the handle from the top of the wand.
  • For more cleaning reach, leave the handle on the wand, and detach the wand from the floor nozzle.
  • Press the Wand Release button and lift up the handle to remove the wand.
  • Attach a cleaning accessory, and select the Hard Floor setting.

HOW DO I USE THE DIFFERENT CLEANING MODES?

This Shark upright vacuum has three powerful settings for cleaning.

  • For bare floors and accessories: Press the power button on the vacuum handle to turn on suction, then slide the surface selector to Hard Floor. Tilt the handle back while you gently step on the floor nozzle. Note that the brushrolls will spin slowly in this mode.
  • For low-pile carpets: Press the power button on the vacuum handle to turn on the suction. Slide the surface selector to Carpet/Low Pile. Tilt the handle back while you gently step on the floor nozzle. The brushrolls will begin spinning.
  • For thick carpets and area rugs: Press the power button on the vacuum handle to turn on the suction. Slide the surface selector to Thick Carpet/Area Rug. Tilt the handle back while you gently step on the floor nozzle. The brushrolls will begin spinning.

HOW DO I CLEAN ABOVE FLOORS WITH OR WITHOUT ACCESSORIES?

Detach the pod from the floor nozzle to clean above-floor areas.

  • From upright vacuum mode, first remove the cord from the cord clip, then press the Lift-Away button on the top of the pod.
  • Gently step on the floor nozzle and lift off the pod.

To remove the handle:

  • Press the handle release button on the back of the handle and pull up to detach. Add a cleaning tool to the handle.

To remove the wand:

  • Press the Wand Release button on the back of the wand. Lift up the handle to remove the wand. Add a cleaning tool to the end of the wand.

WHEN AND HOW DO I CLEAN THE FILTERS?

Filters may need to be cleaned if the vacuum stops picking up dirt, if airflow is restricted, or if you notice lighter or no suction. For optimal performance, clean filters regularly. Between cleanings, lightly tap filters over a trash receptacle to remove dust and debris as needed. Rinse the pre- motor foam and felt filters every 3 months, or as needed.

  • Take off the dust cup, and remove the foam and felt filters from the pod.
  • Rinse both filters with water only and allow them to air-dry completely (at least 24 hours) before reinstalling.
  • When filters are completely dry, reinstall the felt filter first, followed by the foam filter.
  • Reattach the dust cup. Rinse the post-motor HEPA filter once every 12 months, or as needed.
  • Squeeze the tab under the main vacuum pod and lift off the filter cover.
  • Rinse the filter with water only and allow it to air-dry completely (at least 24 hours) before reinstalling.
  • When filter is completely dry, reinstall it and reattach the cover, pushing it firmly into place.

Note : Do not place filters in the dishwasher or washing machine.

WHEN AND HOW DO I EMPTY THE DUST CUP?

For optimal performance, empty the dust cup each time you vacuum, or when debris reaches the MAX FILL line.

  • To remove the dust cup, slide up the release latch on the dust cup handle.
  • Hold the dust cup over the trash and press the bottom door release button.
  • Tap gently to empty contents.
  • Close the bottom door, pressing it until it clicks into place. If needed, turn the dust cup upside down over the trash and press the top door release button.
  • Tap gently to remove contents and wipe the interior of the dust cup with a soft cloth.
  • Clear away any debris from the cone-shaped screen inside the dust cup, then close the lid, pressing it until it clicks into place.
  • To reinstall, place bottom of dust cup into the pod and tilt until it clicks into place.

HOW DO I ACCESS AND CLEAN THE BRISTLE BRUSHROLL AND SOFT BRUSHROLL?

  • Turn off the vacuum and unplug it.
  • Detach the floor nozzle from the pod and the wand.
  • Remove the brushroll garage lid by sliding up both release buttons on the top of the floor nozzle.
  • Remove any debris from around the bristle brush.
  • Pull out the soft brushroll, using the PULL tab on the right.
  • Remove any hair or debris from the soft brushroll and the housing.
  • If needed, wash the soft brushroll using water only. Air-dry completely for at least 24 hours.
  • Once the soft brushroll is dry, reinstall it by inserting the left end into the roller housing first, then pressing until it clicks into place.
  • Remove any clogs from the nozzle openings.
  • Once all debris and clogs have been cleared, close the brushroll garage lid completely by pressing down firmly on all sides.

Note: Do not put the soft brushroll in the dishwasher or washing machine. Do not vacuum wet messes.
