Filling

 Operation with oil

The LUB-Z OIL can be easily filled with up to 1000 ml of oil through the top opening after removing the activation and programming key.

Operation with grease / Mount lubricant cartridge
  • Separate the housing from the power unit by turning the retaining ring counterclockwise. Caution: spring tension.
  • Turn the cap on the lubricant cartridge counterclockwise and pull it off.
  • Place the full lubricant cartridge on the lubrication system. Ensure that the stud engages in the slot in the lower part. Turn the lubricant cartridge clockwise onto the lubrication system. The end position is reached after a ¼ rotation.
  • Place the dismantled housing on the lubrication system and press it onto the power unit. Fasten the housing to the power unit by turning the retaining ring clockwise.

Commissioning

Mechanical fastening

Place the lubrication system directly on the mounting surface and locate it by means of two hexagonal socket head screws M8x80 in accordance with DIN 912.

 Electrical connection

Connect the lubrication system with an external power supply system (e.g. PLC) by adding a proper connecting cable to the electrical interface of the lubrication system . The lubrication system is now switched on and is running the operating mode of time control.

DANGER
Damaged or flawed electrical connections or unlicensed hot components lead to heavy injuries or even death.

Bleeding the lubrication system (Execute FIL function)
Hydraulic connection

Connect the equipment hydraulically to LUB-Z. When you connect tubes to LUB-Z make sure that tubes and connectors are installed tightly, cleanly and correctly. The tube length shall not exceed 5 meters (grease) respectively 10 meters (oil), the inner tube diameter shall not be lower than 4 mm. Make sure that the end of the hose is cut straight. Insert the prefilled hose or hoses into the hose connectors of the lubrication system until they stop.

  •  Ideally, use tubes prefilled with the appropriate lubricant!
 Check settings

Check the required values for the lubrication point and adjust the settings of LUB-Z if necessary.

Factory setting: operating mode=time mode.

Operation and settings

Two operating modes can be selected. The time mode Pu0 (ON) allows setting the number of strokes per cycle (CYCLE) and a pause time (TIME) in hours. Pause times between 1…240 hour(s) and strokes per cycle between 1…96 can be set. Additionally, LUB-Z can be embedded into a programmable logic controller (PLC) which sends orders and controls LUB-Z in pulse mode Pu1 (PAU).

Default settings, operating mode: time mode ON

  • TIME = 4 The time between the start of two cycles is 4 hours.
  • CYCLE = 1 The number of strokes per cycle is one (1).

Default settings, operating mode: pulse mode PAU
Pulse mode Pu1 enables embedding LUB-Z in an external control (PLC) to command and control the device. The number of strokes (one stroke=0.15 ml) dispensed now depend on the PLC’s signals.

Menu and LCD messages

  • See the table on page 6 for more information on the menu and the sub-items and functions.

Actions with the activation and programming key

  •  Turn the activation and programming key to the OPEN position and remove it from the housing of LUB-Z.
  •  Place the key on the action areas SELECT and ENTER on the front of LUB-Z.
  • Select/change menu items and actions with SELECT and confirm with ENTER.
  • In case of inactivity, the programme automati-cally returns to the idle state (timeout).

PRO menu and PIN entry
Select the PRO menu with SELECT and confirm with ENTER. The PIN entry menu item is selected.
(Factory setting PIN: 000, Master-PIN: 321)
Press SELECT to select the first value. Press ENTER to confirm. Enter the next two digits of the PIN. The other menu items can be accessed or changed.

Setting TIME & CYCLE
The following example shows how to change the strokes per cycle and time between the start of two cycles on pump body 2 in the operating mode time mode. To do this, first switch to the PRO menu. Then select pump body 2 (P2) with SELECT and confirm with ENTER. The TIME LED lights up. Select the desired time with SELECT and confirm with ENTER. The display flashes twice to confirm and the CYCLE LED lights up. Now select the desired number of strokes per cycle with SELECT and confirm with ENTER.

PIN assignmentGRUETZNER LUB-Z Lubrication 01

PIN Assignment Colour
1 +24 V DC brown
2 input signal (mode Pu1) white
3 ground blue
4 output signal black

Type: M12x1 female connector; 4-pin, A-coded

  •  The output signal at PIN 4 can also be used in time mode Pu0 for diagnosis of the operating status of the lubrication system. The maximum permissible current output must not exceed  Imax < 100 mA. No inductive load (e.g. relay) may be connected!

Input and output signals – external control (PLC)

To command LUB-Z via an external controller (PLC) it is necessary to switch LUB-Z to pulse control mode Pu1 in PRO menu In pulse control mode LUB-Z operates as a pulse-controlled lubrication system only if unalterable input signals (high level) are transmitted from the PLC to LUB-Z via PIN 2 in a defined sequence. LUB-Z signals the respective status to the PLC via high/low levels which can be tapped off at PIN 4.

  • To operate LUB-V via an external controller (PLC) in pulse control mode a program corresponding to the communication protocol must be created in the PLC.

LUB-Z provides the following unalterably defined control signals (input signals) which must be transmitted from the PLC to LUB-Z via PIN 2 of the electrical M12x1 interface as high level (+24 V DC). The control signals must be generated as high level (+24 V) by the external controller (PLC) over certain times with a tolerance of +/- 0.2 seconds.

Signal length high level (+24 V) Function
2 seconds 1 stroke at pump body 1
4 seconds 1 stroke at pump body 2
6 seconds 1 stroke at pump body 3
8 seconds 1 stroke at pump body 4
  • LUB-Z in pulse control mode Pu1 only processes the control signals listed in the table up to a maximum length of 8 seconds. If a high level (+24 V DC) exceeds the defined tolerance level, LUB-Z does not react.

Input and output signals and pause times
Immediately after the control signal at PIN 2 drops the motor run of LUB-Z starts and 0.15 ml lubricant is conveyed to the outlet. Simultaneously with the start of the motor run, LUB-Z sends a low level at PIN 4 as an output signal to the external controller (PLC) to confirm the duration of the motor run. In order to ensure a reliable and unambiguous recognition of the control signal a pause must be observed. A pause time of at least 30 seconds is required between the start of two identical or different
control signals. In the following example, two 4-second input signals are sent to PIN 2 to trigger one delivery stroke each at P2. After the input signal ends, the output signal at PIN 4 is set low for the duration of the motor run After a pause of at least 30 seconds after the start of the first signal (2), the second input signal can be sent.GRUETZNER LUB-Z Lubrication

  • The output signal on PIN 4 is only transmitted when the feedback function (F1) is activated.

Output signals and LCD-Display

LCD Description Output signal (PIN 4)
On ready for operation high, permanent
PAU ready for operation high, permanent
PAU flashing received control signal high, permanent
01…70 dispensing process low, 7…17 seconds

  • During the dispensing process, the LCD shows the pressure in bar. The bottom line shows which outlet (1 or 2) is currently active.
  •  Until all errors have been eliminated, LUB-Z does not process any control signals.

Maintenance

NOTICE
It is not possible to refill empty or opened lubricant cartridges. The LUB-Z OIL can be easily refilled with up to 1000 ml of oil through the top opening after removing the activation and programming key.
