Assembling the Road Rod

  1.  Remove the four upright inserts, and unlock the blue headrest by sliding it forward from its secure carrying position in the base (image 1).
  2.  Remove the two stabilizers in the ends of the white uprights (image 2).
  3.  Slot the white uprights firmly together and check that the bottom section (marked with an arrow) sits firmly in the base plate slot (image 3), and the symbols *, ●, and ▪ are matched correctly (illustrations below)
  4. Slide one of the two white stabilizers onto the upright, followed by the blue measuring arm, and then slide the second white stabilizer above it (see image 4). Position the stabilizers so that they are clear of the joints in the upright section.
  5. To guarantee an accurate measurement, place the base plate on a firm, level surface. Both stabilizers should rest against a wall to ensure rigidity.Hopkins-Medical-Products-680214-Road-Rod-Portable-Stadiometer-fig-3

Steps to an Accurate Measurement

  1.  The subject should stand on the ‘footprints’, preferably barefoot, with his/her heels together and touching the backstop (image 1).
  2.  Make sure the subject’s legs are straight and the buttocks and shoulders are touching the uprights (image 2). Shoulders should be relaxed with arms at the side. Remove headgear where appropriate.
  3.  Lower the measuring arm firmly on the subject’s head, then position his/her head in the Frankfurt Plane (an imaginary horizontal line running between the ear hole and lower border of the eye) to measure the subject’s full length from crown to feet (image 3).
  4.  Read off the height to the last completed millimeter at the red arrow pointing to the Metric scale. The second red arrow pointing to the Imperial scale may be read only to inform anyone unfamiliar with the Metric system (image 4).

Dismantling the Road Rod

Remove the stabilizers and measuring arm, and slot the uprights into the housing on either side of the base-plate slots. Store the two stabilizers into the ends of the uprights, and slot the measuring arm back into the base plate for safekeeping.Hopkins-Medical-Products-680214-Road-Rod-Portable-
