How to record a file:

  • Insert the micro SD card, up to 128GB, and connect the mini USB to power
  • When the vehicle is turned on or in AUX, the recorder will turn on and begin recording
  • When the car is turned off, the recorder will automatically turn off
  • If desired to turn off when the vehicle is on, press and hold the power button for 2 seconds
  • To turn it back on, press and hold the power button for 2 seconds
  • To end the individual recording tap the ok button
  • To start a new recording, tap the ok button

How to setup via the device:

  • Make sure the unit is turned on. To get into the main menu, you will need to stop the recording that is taking place by simply hitting the “Rec” button once
  • Now hit the menu key to the left of the “Rec” button. It looks like three lines stacked on top of each other
  • Once the menu is pulled up, you will use the “Rec” button to go down and the “Mic” button to go up through the options. To select a choice, you will hit the center yellow “!” button
  • From this point, you can go in and set up and change any setting on the device

How to setup via the VIOFO App and live viewing through the App:

  • Make sure the unit is turned on and that you have downloaded the VIOFO application onto your phone
  • Now we need to turn on the WIFI on the dash camera so that you can connect to it through the VIOFO application
  • To turn on the dash cameras WIFI, hold down the “Live Video WIFI” button that is located to the right of the “Mic” button for about 5-10 seconds until you see a WIFI bar emblem pop up on the units screen also the red LED should now be lighting up above the WIFI option on the device
  • From this point, open up the VIOFO app on your phone. Once you’ve opened up the App, you will see a big red button on the bottom of the App that says “Connect Your Camera” go ahead and click on that, and it will then search for the dash camera
  • The App will then prompt you to ensure the unit’s WIFI is turned on. Go ahead and click “Continue,” and then on the next page, go ahead and click the “Ok” button
  • Your phone will automatically pull up the WIFI settings on your phone; now, you will connect to the camera’s WIFI. The dash cam’s name and default password will be shown on the units screen. Example: VIOFOA129
  • Once you have connected to the camera’s WIFI, go ahead and go back into the VIOFO App
  • Now, when you open up the App, you will see the same “Connect To Camera” button. Go ahead and click that. Now you should be able to live view your camera
  • To get into the settings, you will need to stop the unit recording, hit the red button in the bottom center of the screen. Click the “Cogwheel” icon to the right of the “Rec” icon. Now you will have access to set up the camera and view live

How to playback, delete and lock files on the device:

  • Make sure the unit is turned on
  • End the individual recording by tapping the “Rec” button for 1 second
  • Once the red recording light is off, press and hold the “!” button. This will access the recorded files
  • To select a file, use the “Rec” and “Mic” buttons to navigate
  • Once highlighted, press the “!” button to select
  • To play the file, press the “!” button. This also can be used to pause the recording
  • To delete a recording, press the “Rec” button on the recording you would like to delete. It will then pop up and prompt you to make sure you would like to delete the recording. If yes, press the “Mic” button to move the option to “Ok,” then hit the “!” button to delete the recording
  • To lock a recording, so it does not get overwritten, you will need to have the recording pulled up as if you were going to do playback. Hit the “Mic” button, which will lock the recording on the micro SD card, keeping it from being deleted or overwritten
  • To exit playback, tap the “Menu” button two times

How to playback files and live view through the VIOFO App:

  • Open the VIOFO application on your smart device and pull up your camera. To the left of the “Rec” icon is the “Playback” icon; click on that
  • Now you will be able to watch back the recordings that are located on the SD card
  • While you are viewing a recording, there are going to be two icons on the bottom of the screen, on the left will be the “Download Icon,” and on the right will be the “Delete Icon”
  • When you click the “Download Icon,” it will give you the option to save that file either to the application or to your photo gallery
  • When you click the delete icon, it will prompt you to delete that recording
  • If you want to do a full format on the SD card through the application, you have that ability through the internal settings
  • To do so, you will click the “Cogwheel” icon in the application, and if you swipe down toward the bottom portion of the settings, you will see an option that says “Format SD Card.” If you format the SD card, it will wipe every recording on the unit clearing the SD card completely

How to playback files on a Windows computer

  • Connect the USB cable to the device and the other end to the USB port of the computer or remove the micro SD card from the device and connect it to the computer
  • The PC will recognize the device as a removable disk
  • Open the “DCIM” folder and then open the “Movie” folder. Double-click the file you wish to play

How to playback files on a Mac computer:

  • Connect the USB cable to the device and the other end to the USB port of the computer or remove the micro SD card from the device and connect it to the computer
  • The Mac will recognize the device as a removable disk
  • Open the “DCIM” folder and then open the “Movie” folder. Double-click the file you wish to play

How to playback files on a Google Chromebook:

  • Connect the device to the USB port of the Chromebook
  • A pop-up menu may occur; if so, select “View Files”
  • If a pop-up does not occur, select the “O” icon called the “App Launcher“ similar to a Windows icon button located in the bottom left corner of the screen
  • Underneath the “Google Drive” are “My Drive,” “Downloads,” “New Services,” and something else that may be named “Removable Drive”
  • Select the “Removable Drive.” If unsure of this step. Disconnect the device from the Chromebook and see what is no longer available under Google Drive from step 4
  • After selecting the “Removable Drive,” you can now navigate the folders in the main folder to find the recorded files
  • Double click to play

How to playback files on an Android smartphone or tablet (No Apple Products):

  • An OTG cable is required for this process. For all other steps, refer to the OTG cable guide at https://spycentre.com/products/dual-android-otg-cable , scroll to the bottom of the page and click on user guides
  • Go to your “Device Storage,” and look for external memory. Inside will be all the files you can click on to review what was captured

Note : To playback the files on these devices, you will need to download a media player that can play in MP4 format. We recommend VLC Media Player.

How to delete the files on a Windows computer:

  • Connect the USB cable to the device and the other end to the USB port of the computer or remove the micro SD card from the device and connect it to the computer
  • The PC will recognize the device as a removable disk
  • Open the “DCIM” folder and then open the “Movie” folder. Right-click on the file you wish to delete and select delete

How to delete the files on a Mac computer :

  • Connect the USB cable to the device and the other end to the USB port of the computer or remove the micro SD card from the device and connect it to the computer
  • The Mac will recognize the device as a removable disk
  • Open the “DCIM” folder and then open the “Movie” folder. Right-click on the file you wish to delete and select delete
  • While the device is still plugged into the Mac, go to your trash folder and empty the trash

Note : If the above step is not completed on a Mac, the recorded files will not be entirely deleted from the device. You will have a phantom folder containing the deleted files that can not be seen on Mac that still take up memory space. Empty the “trash bin” to clear these files, or your recorder may run out of room.

VLC Media Player (Recommended for optimal usage)

How to download VLC Media Player on a Mac computer

  • Go to www.videolan.org and click the “Download VLC”
  • It will open a new window and begin downloading
  • If it does not automatically start downloading, press the “Click Here” and select one of the mirrored sites
  • Once completed, a new file named VLC will be visible on the desktop
  • Open the folder, and in the folder, move the VLC to the “Applications Folder” by dragging and dropping it
  • Once in the “Application Folder,” the VLC player will complete the installation
  • Open VLC Media Player in the “Applications Folder” and drag your video files to the “Drag Here” dialog box to open and play
  • If the VLC player is not installed, a change to the security and privacy settings is needed
  • To access your security and privacy, click on the Apple icon on the taskbar and select “System Preferences”
  • Select “Security and Privacy”
  • Make sure the lock icon on the bottom of the screen is open and set to “Make Changes”
  • Select the button “Open Anyway”
  • VLC will now be fully installed

How to download and use VLC Media Player on a Windows computer

  • Go to www.videolan.org and click the “Download VLC”
  • It will open a new window and begin downloading
  • If it does not automatically begin downloading, press the “Click Here” and select one of the mirrored sites
  • Once downloading has been completed, select run and install
  • Once finished, a VLC icon will now be available on your PC
  • To default, open a file in VLC Media Player, right-click on the file you wish to open and select “Open With,” and choose VLC
  • To change all files to default, open with VLC Media Player: Right-click and choose “Properties,” then click on the “Change” button next to “Open With” and change it to VLC, then press ok. Now the files will default open with VLC

Note : If the memory folder of the recorder does not automatically open when connected to a PC, disconnect the device and perform the following

  1. Type “Control Panel” in the search bar and select “Programs”
  2. Under “Default Programs,” click “Change Default Settings for Media or Devices”
  3. Under “Removable Devices,” select “Open Folder” to view files
  4. Save and reconnect the device to the computer
