HAZARDS: FIRE & EXPLOSION
- IGNIS® bio ethanol is the preferred liquid fuel for the operation of this ethanol burner. The use of a fuel not specifically intended for combustion in a ventless liquid ethanol burning fireplace is prohibited.
- Ethanol fuel may never be introduced into an open flame. Once the burner has been extinguished, a period of no less than twenty (20) minutes must expire prior to refuelling. It may never be assumed that the fire has fully extinguished until this period of twenty (20) minutes or more has fullyelapsed.
- Any spillage of ethanol fuel that occurs during the fuelling process must be swabbed with a dry cloth immediately followed by one that has been moistened with water. All surfaces must be dry prior to ignition.
- It is prohibited to use the ethanol burner in any space where there is a presence of flammable vapors or where oxygen tanks are in use.
- Liquid bio ethanol fireplace fuel shall only be stored or transported in its original vessel. It is prohibited to introduce fuel into the burner using any container other than its original bottle or fuelling system. Consumer chemicals and containers regulations 2001
- While fuelling or igniting the burner, smoking is forbidden.
LOCATION OF THE ETHANOL BURNER
- It is necessary to monitor children in the proximity of the ethanol burner to prevent injury. Under no circumstanceshall a child be in the locale of the burner without prudent adult supervision.
- When introducing fire into any interior space, it is highly advised that a fire alarm be installed and maintained regularly. As a precautionary measure, it is also necessary to have immediate access to a class b fire extinguisher should an emergency arise.
- It is forbidden to move or relocate the ethanol burner while in use or less than fifteen (15) minutes from extinction.
- Any active fire consumes oxygen with a potential for air pollution. For safe use of the ethanol burner, installation in a well-ventilated location without cross-ventilation is wholly required. Use of the ethanol burner in a space that doesn’t meet the requirement is at one’s own risk with the knowledge that it may cause serious injury or death. Individuals with pulmonaryconditions should consult with a physician priorto occupying the space where the firebox is afire.

The fuel & fill
IGNIS® Liquid Bio Ethanol Fireplace Fuel
This Eco-Hybrid ethanol burner uses IGNIS® liquid bio ethanol fireplace fuel.
The fuel is highly flammable and must be stored in its original container away
from any heat source. The use of any fuel that is not specifically intended
and labelled for use in a ventless ethanol burning fireplace is strictly
forbidden.
IGNIS® bio ethanol fireplace fuel is classified as a dangerous goods flammable
liquid class 3, pgii. It is regulated by specific standards and rules. It is
encouraged that one familiarizes themselves with regulations as set forth by
local municipalities.
IGNIS® Fuel is the safest bio ethanol fireplace fuel available. Specialists
recommend the use of IGNIS® Fuel for the following reasons
- Safety-Pour Technology. This patent-pending safetysystem is included on all IGNIS® bottles. A device that is found just under the cap, this safety-pour technology prevents sparks from entering the bottle during the fill / refill process. Safety-Pour is the first technology of its kind that reduces the risk of flash or explosion and allows for the safest use of your ethanol burning fireplace or fireplace insert.
- Child-Proof Cap. All IGNIS® bottles are equipped with double protection to ensure the safe storage around children. The cap must be depressed, then twisted to open. Once opened, a silver foil seal must then be removed to access the liquid fuel.
- BITR™. This agent is added to all IGNIS® Fuel to prevent the accidental digestion of the liquid by children or pets. By adding BITR™, a bittering agent, a third level of defense is built into the fuel to prevent the harm of little ones.
- PET Bottle. Renewable through-and-through, IGNIS® Fuel is packaged in a PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) quartsized container made of safe, recyclable material. This type of packaging is lightweight, yet strong and is a food-safe material boasting shatter-proof qualities.
- Responsible. IGNIS® Ethanol Fireplace Fuel is made from reclaimed and recycled waste products that contain alcohol. Unlike other ethanol producers, we recognize the need to preserve food products, normally used to produce ethanol, to feed those that are hungry.
- Clean. When IGNIS® Fuel is burned, it emits no smoke, no soot, no odor nor other toxic emissions. After it’s burned, your reservoir is void of residue. IGNIS® Fuel is safe for indoor use, as it only produces heat, steam (water vapor) and small amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2).
- Value. IGNIS® Fuel, made in the USA, has been tested in our products and developed for the cleanest and longest burn times possible.
Bio Ethanol Fireplace Fuel should NEVER be introduced into an active flame. Please be sure to wait approximately 15 – 20 minutes (or until cool) before refilling your ethanol burner.
FUELLING THE ECO-HYBRID
This Eco-Hybrid ethanol burner uses IGNIS® liquid bio ethanol fireplance fuel. The fuel is highly flammable and must be stored in its original container away from any heat source. The use of any fuel that is not specifically intended and labeled for use in a ventless ethanol burning fireplace is stricty forbidden.
- Prior to introducing fuel into the ethanol burner opening, be sure that all packing, construction or other materials have been removed. Inspect the burner to ensure no visible signs of damage are present. Should a visible sign be noticed, do not fuel or ignite the burner.
- Insect the burner lid to ensure that it operates freely and that no voids that would allow airflow to the fuel in its closed position are visibly present.
- Open the burner lid. Through a funnel, pour the fuel into the burner’s flame opening. Be sure not to exceed the “max” line. If a “max line” isn’t visible, do not exceed 3/4 of the burner’s fuel capacity. Shake funnel before removal to prevent dripping.
- Inspect the area to ensure to spillage or droplets of fuel aren’t present. If spillage occured, it must be immediately removed by absorbing it with a disposable medium (such as a paper towel).
- Prior to igniting the fireplace, be sure all fuel bottles andall other flammable materials are a minimum of one (1) meter [forty-inches (40”)] from the burner and ensure your hands are cleansed from any fuel.
- Only use an elongated lighter or fireplace match. Lower the flame source just over the fuel opening, being careful that your hand nor loose clothing is over the flame opening.
REFUELLING THE ECO-HYBRID BURNER
You must allow for a period of at least twenty (20) minutes to elapse prior to
adding more fuel to the burner. It is absolutely forbidden to add fuel to an
open flame or while the burner is still warm. A flame may still be present but
not visible.
Fuel will burn low upon ignition. Allow 10 -15 minutes to elapse prior to
reaching optimal temperature & flame height. DO NOT blow on the fire.
The operation
IGNITING THE ECO-HYBRID BURNER
If the fireplace design includes multiple burners, all burners must be extinguished and cooled before refilling any burner. All burners must be filled prior to the ignition of any others. Keep hands and face the length of the elongated lighter or fireplace match away from the burner at all times – especially when igniting.
- Before lighting the ethanol burner, ensure that it is clear of any obstruction and ready for use.
- Open the burner lid completely. Once open, wait a period of sixty (60) seconds for residual vapors to dissipate prior to igniting the fire.
- Ignite the elongated lighter or fireplace match and position it just above the burner opening until the vapors start to combust, in a similar fashion to lighting a candle.
REGULATING FLAME INTENSITY
A period of ten (10) minutes should elapse prior to adjusting the flame
intensity.
To decrease or increase the flame intensity, use the in- cluded damper tool to
push forward or pull back the lid in a sliding manner until the desired flame
intensity is achieved.
EXTINGUISHING THE ECO-HYBRID BURNER
There are two manners in which the Eco-Hybrid ethanol burner may be extinguished. No matter which method is chosen, it is required that a period of no less than twenty (20) minutes elapses proir to refuelling the burner. Failure to do so may cause serious personal injury.
- The first manner in which the fire may be extinguished is to let the Eco-Hybrid burner burn until all of the fuel is consumed. Please note that flame may still be present but not visisble. DO NOT refill until the required time period of at least twenty (20) minutes has passed once a flame is no longer visible. or
- Using the included damper tool, you may slide the lid shut. Simply pull the lid over the burner opening in a swift, yet careful manner. This will deprive the fire of oxygen, thus
NEVER ATTEMPT TO BLOW OUT THE FIRE NOR EXTINGUISH THE FIRE USING WATER. DOING SO MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY.
CARING FOR THE ECO-HYBRID BURNER
Maintentance, cleaning and other care must only be performed when the burner is extinguished, dry and at room temperature.
- The general surround of the firebox is maintained as any standard appliance or piece of furniture by dusting and polishing its surfaces regularly.
- Over time, residue may appear on the burner – especially close to the flame opening. this residue may stain, so remove with care.
- When the burner is off, fuel emptied and at room temperature, vacuum the burner using a soft brush. To remove partcles inside of the burner opening, use an attachment that allows for entry.
- Using a mildly abrasive cleaner and water mix, with a damp disposable cloth, wipe the burner in the direction of the brush marks in the stainless steel until no residue remains.
- Once clean, you may opt to use a stainless steel cleaner to restore the brilliance of the metal. Do not light the fire until all surfaces are completely dry. Any cleaner and polish will leave a residual film on surfaces. This film will burn and appear to burn black. Be careful use cleanser sparingly and rinse away thoroughly.
