This pressure gauge is a pressure indicator that is a sub-assembly of a self- contained underwater breathing apparatus and is classified as category Ill personal protection equipment. In accordance with Appendix I of EU Regulation 2016/425, this equipment is designed to protect against the risk of “substances and mixtures that constitute a health hazard”.

USE

This underwater pressure gauge is a safety device which shows the residual pressure of the cylinder during a dive. It is a component of open-circuit scuba unit that connects directly to the pressure reducer (first stage of a regulator). It consists of a nickel-plated brass casing, a luminescent photo dial with a reserve indicator, a polycarbonate anti-glare observation port, an elastomer dial protector, a thermoplastic high-pressure hose with a standard connection at a pitch of 7/16 UNF in accordance with ISO 263 to connect it to the pressure reducer. It also includes an overpressure capsule in the event of breakage of the inner Bourdon tube. This pressure relief capsule is a black pad located at the back of the pressure gauge.

This pressure gauge may be immersed in water at less than 10°C.

Supply pressure

Maximum operating pressure: 300 bar In accordance with EN250, the dial has a measurement range of 0 to 360 bar, i.e. 20% above the maximum operating pressure.

Oxygen compatibility

Models N5152113 and N5152114 are oxygen compatible. They must be connected to a Ni-trox or oxygen regulator in accordance with EN 13949 2003. These gauges are identifiable by a green dial protector.
N5152111 or N5152112 models are for use with air only. These gauges are identifiable by a black dial protector.

USING THE AL 50 UNDERWATER PRESSURE GAUGE

Connecting to the regulator

Aqualung recommends that the pressure gauge should be fitted on your regulator by your Aqualung consultant. If this is not possible, proceed as follows:

  1. Locate the high pressure outlet of your regulator (see the user manual of the regulator). This is generally identified by the letters HR
  2. Unscrew the outlet cap of the regulator.
  3. Remove the cap from the HP hose thread.
  4. Screw the hose fully into the high pressure outlet of the regulator. Then tighten the hose moderately (tightening torque 5 to 10 N.m).
  5. Slowly pressurise the regulator to the maximum operating pressure and check that no leaks appear at the connection between the hose and the regulator.
  6. Remove the window protection film to make it easier to read
Operation with an air regulator

The NS152111 or NS152112 models are special pressure gauges for use in air and are identifiable by a black pressure gauge protector. The air quality you must use to pressurise your cylinder must at least comply with EN 12021 2014.
These models are CE certified for use at a maximum depth of 50 metres. For this purpose and in accordance with EN250, they have been designed and tested to withstand an ambient pressure equivalent to a depth of 100 metres.

Use with a Nitrox or oxygen regulator

The N5152114 (522010) and NS152113 (522015) models are special pressure gauges for use with Nitrox or oxygen. They are identifiable by a green gauge protector. The maximum operating depth and the maximum exposure time depend on the oxygen  content of the mixture;

WARNING: the use of nitrox or oxygen equipment requires some precautions. In particular, you should:

  1. Obtain Nitrox diver training from a recognised body before using this equipment.
  2. Use your equipment only with Nitrox and oxygen in accordance with EN12021:2014. Air can contaminate your equipment even if it complies with EN12021.
  3. Always clean your equipment after use. If your equipment is contaminated, it may self-ignite in the presence of a high percentage of oxygen.
  4. If your pressure gauge has been in contact with oil, such as compressor oil, you can no longer use this equipment. The design of this HP hose with its flow restrictor makes it impossible to decontaminate it, regardless of the cleaning method used.
  5. Always pressurise your regulator gradually, slowly opening the storage valve. This is to avoid the risk of ignition due to the presence of oxygen.
Checks before diving

You must always check that your equipment is working properly. Pressurise the regulator by slowly opening the cylinder storage valve to prevent a “pres-sure surge”effect if the HP hose is pressurised too quickly. Check that the pressure shown corresponds to the assumed pressure in the cylinder and that it is compatible with your planned dive profile. Close the valve retention and bleed the regulator. Make sure that the pressure gauge needle returns to zero.

During diving

Regularly check the pressure shown on your pressure gauge. The hose is long enough for you to secure the dial of the pressure gauge in front of you so that you can check the  pressure more easily. The pressure gauge dial has a red reserve area between 0 and 50 bar. When the needle reaches this area, it is imperative to return to the surface in accordance with the selected decompression procedure. Like any measuring instrument a pressure gauge is a fragile instrument, so do not remove the elastomer cover that surrounds the dial and protects it from impacts.

Limitations for use

The pressure gauge must not be used under conditions which hinder its use, e.g. low or non-existent visibility that makes it impossible to read the dial.
You must end your dive if you cannot read the dial due to lack of visibility. Do not use this pressure gauge if you can see through the dial that water or humidity has entered it. Do not use this pressure gauge if the needle is not at zero when it is not pressurised. Do not use this pressure gauge if the HP hose shows signs of wear, leaks or if the outer sheath is damaged.

STORAGE

  • After use, rinse the pressure gauge with clean water.
  • Never clean the pressure gauge with a detergent that may damage the screen window.
  • Leave the pressure gauge to dry in the open air. Store the pressure gauge with the regulator in a dry place away from heat and sunlight. Storage temperature: -30°C min to +70°C max.
  • Avoid disassembling the pressure gauge of the regulator.
  • After each dive, if applicable, remember to replace the protective caps on the threads of the hose and the regulator to avoid any risk of contamination.

REGULAR MAINTENANCE

After each dive, rinse this pressure gauge with fresh water only. Do not use chemicals that could damage the window or the hose to clean this pressure gauge.
Ensure that your pressure gauge is serviced at least once a year by your Aqualung consulting specialist to replace the 0-rings on the rotating axis of the connection between the hose and the pressure gauge capsule and to check the accuracy of the pressure gauge. Spare parts must be replaced with original Aqualung parts. Also ensure that this pressure gauge is serviced if it has been exposed to an abnormal mechanical impact.
