Thank you for purchasing the Jtek Cable Doubler. This product allows two brake
levers in different locations to operate one brake. Ideal for recumbents,
tandems, touring bikes, time-trial bikes, and special setups for the
physically challenged. Note: You will need appropriate brake cables and
housing. Consider adding in-line adjusters for ease of later adjustment.
WARNING: Read instructions completely before installation. If unsure, have a
GOOD bike shop install it. Improper installation can cause control loss,
serious injury, or death. WARNING: ONLY use both brake levers (of a similar
type i.e. both short pull road or long pull MTB) simultaneously, if you have
limited hand power as too much force can stress the lower cable causing
failure. The brake levers MUST match the brake type. WARNING: Different cables
stretch at different rates. Frequently readjust during the initial period to
maintain synchronization. Check and adjust lever free-play regularly. WARNING:
Regularly inspect the brake system. Significant free-play indicates a problem
that could cause brake failure. Correct as necessary. Seek professional advice
if uncertain.
REQUIRED TOOLS: Cable & housing cutter, 2mm Allen key, Zip ties (optional),
Light grease or oil (optional), In-line adjusters (optional).
INSTALLATION: This setup allows each brake lever to operate the same brake
without feedback from the other lever. Balancing springs inside the Cable
Doubler keep one lever in place while the other is squeezed.
1. Determine the required brake cables and gather necessary tools. 2. Choose
a suitable, smooth cable path location for the Cable Doubler. 3. Cut and
deburr the upper housing cables. 4. Install one brake cable in each lever,
slide the upper housing pieces, in-line adjusters, and double housing
stop over the cables. Install balancing springs onto the cables. 5. Slide
pieces A and B over the cables, fitting snugly with the springs. 6. Pre-load
the assembly and tighten the slider set screws with a 2mm hex key. 7. Verify
spring function and trim excess cable from the sliding pieces. 8. Install a
road-style (pear nipple) brake cable into sliding piece C. 9. Attach sliding
piece C to pieces A and B. 10. (Optional) Apply light grease or oil inside the
outer tube. 11. Slide the outer tube over the lower cable and assembly until
seated onto the double housing stop. 12. Install the single housing stop over
the lower cable and align it with the outer tube. 13. Cut, deburr, and install
the lower cable. Attach the lower cable to the brake, trim, and adjust per
manufacturer
instructions. Secure the Cable Doubler if needed. 14. Test lever action and
adjust cable lengths to synchronize the brakes.
