AIRLOCK New-AL-1000-FBA Boat Air Purifier
Introduction
Airlock™ adapts air ionization technology widely used in hospitals and in commercial applications to a boat-friendly device. Engineered and tested in the United States, Airlock™ works by producing millions of negatively and positively charged ions that attach themselves to the oxygen molecules in the air. These charged ions recirculate through the boat’s AC system and ducting neutralizing stubborn odors at their source, and capturing air contaminants like mold, mildew, and bacteria.

Installation
WARNING!
- Make sure power is disconnected from the A/C unit before installation.

- The ion emitters must be at least 2 inches away from any metal surfaces.
- Never touch ion emitters while operating, static shock may occur.
Illustration of the installation instruction shown
Find the right location
- Airlock™ should be installed proximal to the AC intake airflow, to ensure that the airflow passes directly through the ion emitters (brushes). (figure 1)
- Airlock™ can be installed in any direction—upright, upside down, or sideways.
- The ideal mounting location is in front of the AC filter and coils (cooling fins). However, we understand that sometimes this may not be feasible due to the boat’s design and construction. If it cannot be installed in front of the AC filter, ensure that the device is located as close to the AC intake airflow as possible.
- Ensure the ion emitters (brushes) will be at least 2” away from any metal surface or wires to prevent interference or damage.
Mount the device
- Airlock™ can be mounted in 2 different ways. Every boat is different, so we encourage you to use the one that suits your needs best.
Option A) Metal Mounting Plate
- Clean the surface where you want to attach the metal mounting plate. Ensure the surface is free from humidity, dust, grease, and oil.
- Separate the metal mounting plate from the magnets. (figure 2a.1).
- Peel off the red liner to expose the adhesive (figure 2a.2) and firmly press the plate onto the cleaned surface for at least 10 seconds (figure 2a.3).
- Wait for 10 minutes to allow the adhesive to bond properly.
- Bring the Airlock™ device close to the metal mounting plate and let the magnets attract to it. (figure 2a.4)
Option B) Screws
- Firmly secure the device using the included self-drilling screws. The device can be installed either vertically or horizontally, based on your preference and needs. (figures 2a.1, 2b.2)
- When attaching the device to a grille or screen nylon ties may be used.
- The ion emitters/brushes should not touch any metal surface or wires. Move and secure any wires that may come in contact with the ion emitters/brushes.
Connect the wires to a power source
- Ensure power is off. (figure 3.1)
- Ensure the power source matches the 100-240VAC voltage requirement.
- Connect the red (live) wire and the black (neutral) wire to a constant power source on the AC circuit board. (figure 3.2)
- A handy approach is to connect Airlock™ directly to the fan’s power source. This configuration ensures that ions are generated only when necessary.
Turn on the power supply
- Verify the device is securely mounted and correctly wired.
- Turn on the power supply. A purple LED indicator will illuminate constantly when the device is working properly. (figure 4)
- To verify output, take a non-contact voltage reader and place it near the ion emitters/brushes. It should indicate voltage.
- Airlock™ can remain powered at all times.
Maintenance
Typically, Airlock™ requires no maintenance. However, if the boat environment is exceptionally dusty or if soot accumulates on the top of the device, cleaning is recommended. This will not impact the device’s performance. Always turn off the power supply before cleaning. Use a soft cloth to gently wipe the carbon fiber brushes and the top of the unit. To ensure optimal functionality, we recommend inspecting the carbon fiber brushes every 4 months.
