Using the Pumpkin Applique Block:

  1. Optional Step: If using wool batting, raise
    the presser foot height to avoid catching. Flatten edges of wool
    batting and place it inside the placement stitch. Sew a zigzag
    stitch using water-soluble thread.

  2. Align Background A Fabric over the placement and sew tack down
    and placement stitches for embroidery using the same thread.

  3. Continue with the embroidery process as guided in the
    instructions for the specific block size.

Pumpkin Applique Block

Hoop Battilizer®. Place water soluble thread in the needle and embroidery bobbin thread in the bobbin and sew the placement stitch onto Battilizer®.

This step is optional. Skip to Step 3 if additional wool batting not being used.
Raise height of presser foot to skim over wool to avoid it getting caught. Press edges of wool batting to flatten. Place wool batting inside placement stitch. Using water soluble thread in the needle, sew the zigzag stitch.

Align Background A Fabric over placement and sew tack down and placement stitch for embroidery using the same thread.

Sew quilting using thread that matches Background A Fabric.

Align Pumpkin A Fabric over placement and sew tack down using thread that coordinates with Pumpkin Fabrics.
Use HoopScissors Mini to trim scant 1/4″ from tack down along line marked in red. Leave excess fabric on remaining sides.

Align Pumpkin B Fabric over placement and sew tack down using thread that coordinates with Pumpkin Fabrics.
Trim scant 1/4″ from tack down along red line. Using the HoopScissors Mini, cut a line through fabric directly to the notches at the top and bottom (see arrows) as close to the tack down stitching as possible. Use a pinking shears to trim approximately 1/4″ from tack down along blue line. Do not trim fabric along the green line.

Pumpkin Applique Block Continued

Continuing with the same thread, sew blanket stitch.

Align Pumpkin C Fabric over placement and sew tack down using thread that coordinates with Pumpkin Fabrics.
Using the HoopScissors Mini, cut a line through fabric directly to the notches at the top and bottom (see arrows) as close to the tack down stitching as possible. Use a pinking shears to trim approximately 1/4″ from tack down along blue line. Do not trim fabric along the green line.

Continuing with the same thread, sew blanket stitch.

Sew tack down around edges of pumpkin applique using thread that coordinates with Pumpkin Fabrics.
Use HoopScissors Mini to trim close to tack down stitching on all sides.

Sew satin stitch using same thread.

Align Stem Fabric over placement and sew tack down using thread that matches Stem Fabric.
Use HoopScissors Mini to trim close to tack down stitching around all sides.

Flip Background A Fabric right side up, finger press and smooth out.

Trimming
Blue–Use Trimmer by George 3.0 to remove Battilizer up to basting stitch. Fabric on the front of the block will be trimmed 1/4″ from basting stitches. Red–Trim 1/4″ from basting stitches through all layers.

· Place Backing Fabric right side down on a hard surface, taping edges to keep taut and hold in place. Place wall hanging right side up, centered over Backing Fabric.
· Use a quilt basting spray or quilting safety pins, pinning in several places, avoiding seams. · Place clear Mono.Poly thread in the needle and bobbin. Beginning with center seam, stitch in the
ditch. Continue stitching in the ditch between remaining rows until all seams have been quilted. · Using a longer basting stitch, baste the outside edge of the quilt. · Trim Backing Fabric even with quilt. · Cut 2½” strips for binding, join strips end to end using a diagonal seam. Add sleeve and bind wall
hanging.
