Before First Use
- Remove all packaging materials, such as plastic bags and foam inserts. Check to ensure that all parts and accessories are accounted for.
- Read and remove any stickers on the unit except for the rating label, which should remain on the unit.
- Wipe down the exterior with a damp cloth.
- Unwind the power cord completely and plug in the unit.
- If using a cut-to-size bag roll, seal one end and cut the roll to create your bag (see p. 12 for more details) before filling with food.
Quick Start How to Use the Vacuum Sealer
- Press the two side buttons to open the lid of the unit.
- Fill your bag with food, being sure to leave at least 3 inches at the top of the bag above the food. Place the top end of the bag over the sealing strip in the vacuum sealer, making sure it is not creased or folded. Close the lid, pressing until it locks.
- Press the FOOD button to select between Moist and Dry mode. Choose Dry mode for most foods, but those that are excessively juicy, or in a sauce or marinade will require Moist mode. CAUTION: Due to the risk of anaerobic bacteria, fresh mushrooms, onions, and garlic should never be vacuum sealed.
- Press the VAC+SEAL button. The blue indicator light will turn on and the unit will vacuum and seal the bag in one cycle. NOTE: if you need to cancel the cycle, press the same button again. If the sealing process has not yet begun, you can remove the bag if needed and start the cycle again.
- When the cycle is complete and the sealing bar has cooled down, the blue light will turn off. Press the two side buttons to open the lid and remove your sealed bag.
How to Create Bags from a Cut-To-Size Roll
The vacuum sealer can be used with cut-to-size bag rolls, which lets you
create a custom-size bag that perfectly fi ts your food. The roll must be cut
and sealed at one end before fi lling with food.
- Open the lid of the unit by pressing both side buttons.
- Insert the open end of the bag roll into the sealing compartment, ensuring that it is not creased or folded.
- Close and lock the lid.
- Press the SEAL button. The blue indicator light will turn on and Sealing mode will be activated.
- The blue light will turn off when the sealing strip cools down. Press the side buttons to open the lid.
- Cut the other end of the bag to the desired length, making sure to leave at least 3 inches more than the food will occupy. The bag can now be fi lled and sealed at the top.
Food-Sealing Tips
- The unit offers a vacuum-only mode to be used with a vacuum container and hose (sold separately). Follow the container’s instructions to attach the hose to the vacuum connector on the unit and run the vacuum-only cycle.
- Be sure to store unused bags in a cool, dry place. Bags must remain dry in order to properly seal the food.
- Liquids, such as juices, stocks and sauces, are easiest to seal if they are pre-frozen in an ice-cube tray.
- For best results, pre-freeze berries and fruits before sealing.
- For best results, blanch vegetables (i.e., briefly cook in boiling water) before sealing. This stops the enzyme processes that affect color, flavor, and texture. Place them in boiling water until color is brightened, immerse in cold water to cool, then let dry before sealing. After sealing, store bags in the freezer.
- After sealing, use a marker to write the date that the food is sealed. This will help you keep track of how old your food is so that you can dispose of it if the food is not eaten within the recommended time. Sealing your food will extend how long it stays fresh, but it cannot stop the deterioration of the food.
- The best way to preserve food is to keep it at a lower temperature. Make sure to store your food at or below 40°F (4°C)—refrigerator temperature. You can also freeze your vacuum sealed bags for longer-term storage.
- Vacuum sealing your food does not replace refrigerating or freezing food. If you would store a container of a particular food in your refrigerator or freezer, then you will also need to store your vacuum-sealed bag of that food in the refrigerator or freezer as well.
- Beyond food, the vacuum sealer is useful to protect silverware from tarnish in between uses. Wrap fork tines and knife edges in paper towels before sealing to avoid puncturing the bag.
Keep it Clean
The vacuum sealer requires very little cleaning.
- Unplug the sealer and let it cool completely before cleaning.
- Wipe the surface with a damp cloth. If food has gotten on the gaskets, gently wipe with warm, soapy water and wipe clean with a damp cloth.
- Do not immerse the unit in water or any other liquid.
- Store the device in a cool, dry place.
