Aprilaire 5453 Dehumidifier Fan Replacement Blowers

Installation Instruction

  1. Turn the dehumidifier OFF by pressing the ON/OFF button near the display.

  2. Turn the ON/OFF switch OFF and unplug or disconnect power to the dehumidifier.

  3. Remove access panels from both sides of the dehumidifier. Remove the insulation from the drain side of the unit.

  4. Remove the electrical box cover (Figure 1}.

  5. Use needle nose pliers to remove the brown and blue wires connected to the black capacitor (Figure 2).

  6. Remove the green screw holding the green ground wire to the electrical box (Figure 3).

  7. Disconnect the blue and red connectors from the internal power board **(Figure 4).

  1. Pull the fan wires out of the electrical box through the grommet. Clip any wire ties that are securing fan wires to other wires inside the electrical box (Figure 5). If the fan cable is located behind the electrical box, the two screws securing the electrical box may need to be removed to pull the electrical box away from the coil to be able to remove the cable **(Figure6).

  1. Remove the two screws on each side of the blower motor bracket securing the bracket to the inlet plate (Figure 7 ).

  2. Remove original fan and install the replacement fan.

  3. Push the wires of the fan cable through the grommet in the electrical box. The larger connectors will have to be pushed through individually to fit (Figure 8 ).

  4. Connect the red and blue connectors to the internal power board. The mating connectors on the board are labeled with the appropriate color (Figure 4).

  5. Connect the blue and brown wires with the quick connect terminals to the capacitor – the wires can be connected to either terminal (Figure 2).

  6. Use the green ground screw to secure the ground wire to the electrical box (Figure 3).

  7. Route the fan cable over the drain and behind the electrical box (Figure 9). Any slack in the cable should be positioned behind the electrical box.

  8. Reinstall the screws to secure the electrical box to the coil plate (if removed).

  9. Install the electrical box cover.

  10. Install the insulation. There is a cut away at the bottom of the insulation to allow it to be placed behind the drain.

  11. Install the two access panels.

  12. Restore power, rock the ON/OFF switch ON. Make sure the display shows the unit to be OFF – if not OFF, then use the ON/OFF button to turn it OFF.

  13. Press and hold the MODE and ON/OFF buttons for three seconds. The blower should start and the display should show “AIR SAMPLING”, “TEST” and the room RH value.

  14. Press the ON/OFF button to stop the test.

  15. Turn the unit ON – repair is complete.
