FIG 1 Main Functions

INTRODUCTION

Thank you for purchasing the universal smpl TV Remote. Before we begin, make sure there is a clear line of sight to your television (TV) and Set-Top Box (STB). Please have a little patience reading this guide to insure a hassle- free set up. You should be up and running within 5-10 minutes!

GETTING STARTED

A. INSTALL THE BATTERIES

Using a small Phillips screwdriver, loosen the screw on the upper backplate of the remote until the backplate detaches (the screw will remain on the backplate).

FIG 2 INSTALL THE BATTERIES

Insert two (2) AAA batteries, replace the backplate and re-tighten the screw. Be careful not to over tighten the screw.

B. REMOVE THE SETUP COVER (To access setup buttons)

Using a small Phillips screwdriver, loosen the screw at the bottom of the underside of the remote. This will allow you to remove the Setup Cover on the lower front of the remote. Return the cover and re-tighten the screw when you are finished setting up the SMPL Remote.

SET UP

Please locate the DEVICE CODES for both your TV (by brand) and your STB (listed by Cable or Satellite service provider) at the end of this Setup Guide. There may be one or many possible codes for any particular TV or STB. If you do not use a STB, please skip the SET-TOP BOX SETUP section.

If you cannot find the code for your TV or STB on the list, do not worry. The SMPL Remote can manually search for the proper code. In that case, skip ahead to the CODE SEARCH section.

However, before you do the manual search if you have a TV or STB made prior to or around year 2000 check the FULL list on our website, at ww.smpltec.com/tvremote.

TELEVISION SETUP

  • Press and hold the [A] button until the Indicator Light turns solid green, then release the [A] button
  • While the Indicator Light is on, enter the code number using the (100), [10], & [1] for each digit of the code. For example, to enter code 273 you would press (100) two times, the [10] button seven times and the [1] button three times. To enter a zero simply do not press the button for that digit.                                                                FIG 4 TELEVISION SETUP
  • Point the SMPL Remote at the TV and press the Power button. If your TV turned on, you have the correct code. Press the [A] button to exit programming mode, and you can move onto the SET-TOP BOX SETUP section.
  • If the first code you tried did not turn the TV on, proceed to the next code on the list, and so on. If none of the codes worked, proceed to section CODE SEARCH.

SET-TOP BOX SETUP

  • Turn on both the TV and STB
  • Press and hold the [A] button until the Indicator Light turns solid green then release the [A] button
  • Press and release the Mute button. The Indicator Light will blink once, and stay solid green.
  • Enter the code number using the same method as in the above TV SETUP section B
  • Test the code by pushing the Channel Up button. If the channel changed, you have the correct code, and can press the [A] button to exit setup mode. If it did not turn on, proceed to the next code on the list. If none of the codes worked, proceed to section CODE SEARCH.

We recommend you write down or highlight the correct codes for your devices for later reference.

CODE SEARCH

If none of the codes listed work with your TV or STB, then you will have to do a manual code search. Make sure your TV and STB are on before starting this procedure.

CODE SEARCH FOR TELEVISION

  • Press and hold the [A] Button until the Indicator Light turns solid green.
  • Point the SMPL Remote at your TV and press and release the Volume Up Botton continuously until the TV shuts off. You may have to do this once, 5 times, 20 times, 200 times, or more until you find your code, so please be patient.
  • As soon as the TV turns off, stop pressing the Volume Up Button and press the [A] button once. The Indicator Light will flash.

CODE SEARCH FOR SET-TOP BOX

  • If you do not use a set-top box, skip the remainder of this section.
  • Now you need to search for the code for your cable or satellite provider. This code will be different than the one you used setting up your TV. F. Press and hold the [A] Button until the Indicator Light turns solid green.
  • Press and release the Mute Button. The LED will blink once and turn solid green.
  • Point the SMPL Remote at your STB and press and release the Channel Up Button continuously until the channel changes. As soon as the channel changes, stop pressing the Channel Up Button and press the [A] button once. The Indicator Light will flash. As above, you may have to press once, or 200 times, or more until you find your code.

Test the Power, Mute, Channel Up/Down and Volume Up/Down buttons. If they all work, you have completed the basic set up procedure.

If some but not all functions work after this testing, please go to section ADVANCED SETUP – ADVANCED CODE SEARCH.

PROGRAMMING FAVORITE CHANNELS

The five large, numbered buttons on the face of the SMPL Remote are your Favorite Channel #1-5 buttons. You can program the channel number of your most watched stations here for easy access.

This section will teach you how to program your favorite channels on the Favorite Channel 1-5 buttons. Make sure both the TV and STB are on before beginning this procedure.

  • Press and hold the [C] button until the Indicator Light turns solid green (about 3 seconds)
  • Select the Favorite button you wish to program (1-5) and press it once.
  • Program the channel number, using [A] for thousands and the the [100],[10], for the hundreds, tens and single digits respectively.
  • Example: To program channel 2103, you would press [A] twice, [100] once, and [1] three times.
  • Press and release the selected Favorite Button again to exit programming mode.
  • Point the device at the STB or TV and press the programmed Favorite Button to test if it worked.

Repeat this procedure for Favorite Channel buttons #2-5. Once you have programmed in Favorite Channels # 1-5, the Channel Up/Down button will now cycle through those channels in order and then cycle through channels available from your cable company in numerical order. When you are done programming press the [C] button.

ADDING ADDITIONAL FAVORITE CHANNELS

You can add five additional favorite channels, which can only be accessed by pressing the Channel Up/Down buttons. This section will teach you how to program up to 5 more ‘Favorite Channels’. Complete this section if the user plans to only watch the Favorite Channels, as this will disable the Channel Up/Down function for all other channels except the Favorite Channels.

  • Press and hold the [C] button until the Indicator Light turns solid green (about 3 seconds)
  • Press and release the Mute Button. The Indicator Light will turn off and back on green
  • Select the Favorite Button you wish to program-pressing 1 for 6,2 for 7, and so on- and press it once.
  • Program the channel number in, as seen in step C&D of the above section.
  • Press and release the selected Favorite Button again to exit programming mode.
  • Point the device at the STB or TV and press the programmed Favorite Button to test if it worked.

Repeat this procedure for each remaining Favorite Channel button. Once you have programmed in Favorite Channels 6-10, the Channel Up/Down button will now cycle ONLY through Favorite Channels in order. When you are done programming press the [C] button.

If your TV or STB requires dashes (“-“) or periods (“.”) for channel selection, please go to section ADVANCED SETUP.

Remember to re-attach the bottom cover plate to the remote when you are finished setting up, and enjoy your new universal SMPL Remote!

ADVANCED SETUP

If you need your SMPL Remote to learn another button on your remote (EXAMPLE: the Sleep Timer, Subtitles, Dash or Period buttons) you can do so in Learning Mode. To do this you will need the existing TV or STB remote. Place the existing remote and the SMPL Remote facing one another about 2″ apart. For this example, we will teach the Sleep Timer Button to the SMPL Remote on Favorite Button 1.

FIG 5 ADVANCED SETUP

  1. Press and hold the [B] button until the Indicator Light turns solid green (about 3 seconds)
  2. Press and release the Favorite {1] Button. The Indicator Light will blink from green to orange. You are now in Learning Mode.
  3. Press and release the Sleep Timer Button on the existing remote. The Indicator Light on the SMPL Remote will blink orange three times, then solid green.
  4. Press and release the [B] button to exit programming mode. The Indicator Light will blink three times and turn off.
  5. Test the function by pressing the Favorite {1} Button. If it activates the Sleep Timer, you have successfully programmed the device.

You can repeat this procedure to program Favorite Channels 7-10

ADVANCED CODE SEARCH

If some but not all functions on the SMPL Remote work after testing, please refer to the Code List and try the next code in the sequence. Additionally please visit www.smpltec.com/tvremote for a periodic updated list of codes. If you are doing manual code search, restart the process but keep going after the first time the system in question responds.

FACTORY RESET

If for any reason you need to reset your SMPL Remote (example, you want to use it with another system) you can do so by holding the [A] button & the Power Button for 3 seconds. The Indicator Light will turn orange and blink. This will clear any programmed codes on the device.
