Intermec SG20B Cordless Scanner (USB) Setup

NOTE: Make sure you fully charge the battery before you start using the SG20B. When docked, the scanner status light should be solid green to indicate the battery is fully charged.

The SG20B Base Station connects to the host with a USB cable. The USB port must provide 500mA in order to power the base station and charge the scanner by slow charge. If not, you may get a message that the host does not provide enough power. An optional power supply can be configured to provide power and charge the scanner. Refer to pages 30 33 of the User Guide for additional connectivity methods available.

Connecting the Scanner to the Base Station and Host
  1. Connect the SG20 Bluetooth Base Station to a host device using the USB cable. If the scanner installs successfully you should see the following:
    Driver-software-installation-tab

  2. Turn your SG20B on by pressing the trigger.

  3. Read the Bluetooth association bar code on the bottom of the SG20 Bluetooth Base Station.

  4. The scanner beeps twice, the green status light flashes twice and the blue Intermec Ready-to-Work indicator starts blinking. When the scanner connects to the base station it emits a series of beeps from low to high. The blue Intermec Ready-to-Work indicator turns on and stays on for both the scanner and base station when a connection has been established. When the scanner is docked in the base station the blue light turns off even though the Bluetooth connection is still active.

  5. The scanner is now ready to scan data.
NOTE: If you cannot read the association bar code located on the bottom of the base station you will need to create an association bar code using EasySet, see “Configuring Your System with EasySet” on page 47 of the User Guide.

  6. Scan the configuration barcodes below.

  • If you are experiencing a charge or base station powering down after a period of inactivity, there is a setting in Windows that will turn off a USB port to save power. Right click My Computer and choose Properties. Select Device Manager. Go to Universal Serial Bus Controllers and choose the correct USB Hub. Right click and select Properties, and there should be a tab for Power Management. Uncheck the check box for allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

Resetting the SG20B scanner

Problem Solution

The scanner becomes unresponsive. No beam when the trigger is pressed therefore configuration bar codes cannot be read.| The SG20 can be manually reset by inserting a paper clip sized pin in the reset hole and depressing the reset button. After a manual reset, the scanner is still configured as it was before. The current parameters are not reset.

Understanding the SG20B Scanner
  • Ready-to-Work Indicator Lights: Both the base and scanner have indicator lights. Use the table below to determine the status of the SG20B.
Indicator State What It Means Indicator State What it Means
2 flashes Power-up Off A Bluetooth connection has not been established.

OR
Scanner is docked in a base station or charge base (Bluetooth connection is active – check host to verify connection).
On| A Bluetooth connection has been established. The SG20 Bluetooth Base Station is ready to receive data from the scanner.| Blinking, slowly| The scanner is trying to establish a Bluetooth connection with a Bluetooth device.
1 blink off| Data has been successfully transmitted to the host| Blinking, fast| The scanner is awaiting user acknowledgement in a pairing procedure.
Blinking, slowly| Connection is incomplete (cannot charge and/or interface with the scanner).| On| A Bluetooth connection to the base station or host computer is established. The SG20B is ready to scan bar codes and send data.
Of| A Bluetooth connection has not been established.|  |

  • Scanner Status Light: The status light flashes green, red or amber to indicate the status of the scanner and/or battery. Status information is sometimes shown even if the Intermec Ready-to-Work Indicator is on. This way the scanner can communicate more than one type of information at the same time.
For example while the blue LED is on to show that there is a Bluetooth connection, the scanner will flash green when you have successfully scanned a bar code.
Light State What it means
Green light on for 2 seconds The scanner successfully decoded a bar code and

sent the data to the host.
Green light flashes 2 times| A configuration bar code was successfully read.
Red light on for 2 seconds| Transmission error
OR
Configuration bar code was not accepted
Red, blinking| Battery power is low (< 20% – need to charge).
Green, blinking (only when docked)| The scanner is charging.
Battery power is < 95%.
Green, on (only when docked)| Battery is fully charged.
Amber, blinking| Battery fault.

  • Understanding the Beeps: The SG20B beeps to give you audio feedback when performing some functions. For example, you hear a beep each time you scan a valid bar code.
Beep Sequence What it means
Single beep The SG20B successfully scanned a bar code.
Two fast beeps The SG20B is properly docked in the SG20B Charge Base or SG20

Base Station.
Six very fast beeps| Transmission error
OR
Configuration bar code was not accepted
Series of beeps from low to high| The SG20B is connecting to a Bluetooth host.
Series of beeps from high to low| The SG20B is disconnecting from a Bluetooth host. Note: The scanner does not beep when disconnecting automatically after a long period of inactivity or when reading the “Bluetooth Device Disconnect” configuration bar code.
