Installing the Hitch

Before install, check that the shank on your hitch and the opening on the receiver are compatible. For example:

  • 2” hitch is compatible only with a 2” receiver
  • 5” hitch is compatible only with a 2.5” receiver
  • 3” hitch is compatible only with a 3” receiver
  • DO NOT USE a 2” hitch in a 5” receiver unless the correct reducer sleeve is used
  • DO NOT USE a 5” hitch in a 3” receiver unless the correct reducer sleeve is used

BulletProof Hitches are precision CNC milled with a very precise tolerance. If your hitch does not slide easily into the receiver be sure that the receiver is clean and free of debris. Do not force the hitch into the receiver or you may experience issues removing it.

Some hitch receivers may require light cleanup to remove imperfections in the receiver box. This is normal and light filing will usually fix any issues. Be sure that all 5/8 pins are installed and secured using the supplied R clips before the hitch is used to tow/pull anything.

User Guide

Once the hitch is properly installed on your vehicle be sure to use the correct ball size for your trailer. For example:

  • Only use a 2” ball with a 2” coupler
  • DO NOT USE a 2” ball with a 2 5/16” coupler

When using the shackle attachment be sure that the shackle is mounted in the upper position behind the shank of the hitch. This will eliminate excess leverage on your truck’s hitch receiver. When using the pintle attachment, be sure that it is properly installed with the pin for the pintle attachment directly above the pin for the ball.

Ratings

  • NEVER exceed your vehicle’s receiver towing weight rating
  • NEVER exceed your vehicle’s receiver tongue weight rating
  • NEVER exceed your vehicle’s GVWR capacity
  • ALWAYS check local State/DOT rules regarding towing

“If the BulletProof Hitch is rated to 36,000 lbs does this mean that I can tow 36,000 lbs?” Your tow rig is only as strong as the weakest link. For example: Vehicle GVWR, vehicle receiver weight rating, vehicle tire weight rating. See manufacturer’s specifications.
