Assembly

Installation Guidelines
  • Install shut-off valves before and after backflow preventer
  • Install backflow preventer downstream of the filter or strainer This protects the appliance against dirt
  • Install in horizontal pipework with the discharge valve downwards
  • Ensure good access Simplifies maintenance and inspection
  • In order to avoid flooding, it is recommended to arrange a permanent, professionally dimensioned wastewater connection
  • The installation environment should be protected against frost and ventilated well
  • Install discharge pipework which has adequate capacity
  • These armatures need to be maintained regularly
Assembly in  structions
  1. Thoroughly flush pipework

  2. Ensure that connections on back flow preventer are clean

  3. Install backflow preventer

  4. Install in horizontal pipework with discharge connection directed downwards
    ● Note flow direction (indicated by arrow)
    ● Install without tension or bending stresses

  5. Provide a straight section of pipework of at least five times the nominal valve size after the backflow preventer

  6. Maintain assembly distances

  7. Load the eye screw only in axial direction

  8. Connect discharge pipework close coupled and without tight bends according to connection dimensions (see table)

  9. Install discharge pipework in such a way that the discharge connection and the discharge valve can be removed for inspection

Maintenance

Notice-icon.pngIn order to comply with EN 806-5, water fixtures must be inspected and serviced on an annual basis. As all maintenance work must be carried out by an installation company, it is recommended that a servicing contract should be taken out.
In accordance with EN 806-5, the following measures must be taken:

Inspection

The inspection should also include ancillary equipment such as strainers and shut-off valves.

Testing inlet check valve

Notice-icon.png Take note of the instructions of the test control unit TKA295

  1. Procedure according to instruction of the test control unit TKA295

Testing discharge valve

Notice-icon.png Take note of the instructions of the test control unit TKA295

  1. Procedure according to instruction of the test control unit TKA295
Quick test for the discharge valve:
  • Lower the inlet pressure
    – if the discharge valve opens (it drops), the function is o.k.

Testing outlet check valve

Notice-icon.png Take note of the instructions of the test control unit TKA295

  1. Procedure according to instruction of the test control unit TKA295
Maintenance

Notice-icon.png Do not use any cleansers that contain solvents and/or alcohol for cleaning the plastic parts, because this can cause damage to the plastic components – water damage could result.
Detergents must not be allowed to enter the environment or the sewerage system!

Discharge valve

  1. Close shut-off valve on inlet

  2. Close shut off valve on outlet

  3. Release pressure using the three ball valves

  4. Unscrew pressure control line

  5. Open screws on the lid

  6. Remove cover

  7. Push clamp together and remove

  8. Remove discharge valve upwards
    ● Clean or replace as required

  9. Grease O-rings for drinking water installation well with admissible greasing agent, replace damaged O-rings

  10. Reassemble in reverse order

  11. Test function (see 5.1 Inspection)

Check valve

  1. Close shut-off valve on inlet

  2. Close shut-off valve on outlet

  3. Release pressure using the three ball valves

  4. Open screws on the lid

  5. Remove cover

  6. Push clamp together and remove

  7. Twist securing ring out of the receiving slot
    CAUTION!
! Risk of injury – Check valves are under spring tension!

  8. Pull out the check valve
    ● disassemble the outlet check valve first, and the inlet check valve
    ● Clean or replace as required
    ● Leaking check valves must be replaced.
    ● If the edge seals are worn, you can switch the cases of the two check valves with each other (see conversion check valves)

  9. Reassemble in reverse order
    ● Grease the O-ring on the check valve with greasing agent admissible for drinking water
    ● Do not damage `O’ ring during assembly
    ● Securing ring Pos. 7 (picture 5.2.2.) that the opening is facing downwards

  10. Test function (see 5.1 Inspection)

Conversion check valves

CAUTION!
Risk of injury – Check valves are under spring tension!

  1. Disassemble both check valves by loosening the hexagon bolt
  2. Assemble the housing of the inlet check valve with the components of the outlet backflow preventer
  3. Assemble the housing of the outlet check valve with the components of the inlet check valve

Disposal

Observe the local requirements regarding correct waste recycling/disposal!

Troubleshooting

Problem Cause Remedy
Discharge valve opens without apparent reason Pressure strokes in water
supply system Install a pressure reducing valve upstream the backflow

preventer
