IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

  7. Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

  9. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than the other. A grounding type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong. The wide blade or the third prong is provided for your safety. If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet.

  10. Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.

  11. Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.

  12. Use only with a cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table recommended by the manufacturer, or sold with the product. When a cart is used, use caution when moving the cart/apparatus combination to avoid injury from tip-over.

  13. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for a long period of time.

  14. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.

  15. This appliance shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing water and that no object filled with liquids such as vases shall be placed on the apparatus.

  16. Do not overload wall outlet. Use only power source as indicated.

  17. Use replacement part as specified by the manufacturer.

  18. Upon completion of any service or repairs to this product, ask the service technician to perform safety checks.

  19. Power Sources – This product should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your product dealer or local power company. For products intended to operate from battery power, or other sources, refer to the operating instruction.

  20. Object and Liquid Entry – Never push objects of any kind into this product through openings as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short-out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the product.

  21. Damage Requiring Service – Unplug this product from the wall outlet and refer servicing to qualified service personnel under the following conditions:
    a) When the power-supply cord or plug is damaged,
    b) If liquid has been spilled, or objects have fallen into the product,
    c) If the product has been exposed to rain or water,
    d) If the product does not operate normally by following the operating instructions. Adjust only those controls that are covered by the operating instructions as an improper adjustment of other controls may result in damage and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the product to its normal operation.
    e) If the product has been dropped or damaged in any way, and
    f) When the product exhibits a distinct change in performance – this indicates a need for service.

  22. Mains plug is used as disconnect device and it should remain readily operable during intended use. In order to disconnect the apparatus from the mains completely, the mains plug should be disconnected from the mains socket outlet completely.

  23. The (battery or batteries or battery pack) shall not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like.

  24. Excessive sound pressure from earphones and headphone can cause hearing loss.

  25. Minimum distances of 10 cm around the apparatus for sufficient ventilation.

  26. The ventilation should not be impeded by covering the ventilation openings with items, such as newspapers, table-cloths, curtains, etc.

  27. No naked flame sources, such as lighted candles, should be placed on the apparatus.

  28. The use of apparatus in moderate climates.

  29. Attention should be drawn to the environmental aspects of battery disposal.

  30. CAUTION: Risk of explosion if the battery is replaced by an incorrect type.

  31.  High or low extreme temperatures that a battery cannot be subjected to during use, storage or transportation and low air pressure at high altitude.

  32. Replacement of a battery with an incorrect type that can defeat a safeguard.

  33. Disposal of a battery into fire or a hot oven, or mechanically crushing or cutting of a battery, that can result in an explosion.

PROTECT YOUR FURNITURE

This system is equipped with non-skid rubber ‘feet’ to prevent the product from moving when you operate the controls. These ‘feet’ are made from non- migrating rubber material specially formulated to avoid leaving any marks or stains on your furniture. However certain types of oil based furniture polishes, wood preservatives, or cleaning sprays may cause the rubber ‘feet’ to soften, and leave marks or a rubber residue on the furniture. To prevent any damage to your furniture we strongly recommend that you purchase small self-adhesive felt pads, available at hardware stores and home improvement centers everywhere, and apply these pads to the bottom of the rubber ‘feet’ before you place the product on fine wooden furniture.

POWER SUPPLY

The SB2003BT can be operated from the following power sources: AC: 120V~ 60 Hz
DC: 4 x 1.5V , battery type R14/ UM-2/ “C” size (not included)

CONNECTING TO AC POWER AND INSTALLINGBATTERIES

  1. Insert the plug of Power Cord into a standard wall outlet with a constant AC power supply.
  2. Install 4 fresh alkaline batteries into the Battery Compartment following the polarity diagram inside. Use only the specified size and type of batteries. To open the battery door, press on the arrows firmly and then slide downward.DEREN R-3972T Portable Bluetooth AM-FM Radio fig4

IMPORTANT:

  • Be sure that the batteries are installed correctly. Wrong polarity may cause permanent damage to the unit.
  • For best performance and longer operating time, we recommend the use of alkaline batteries.
  • If the unit is not to be used for an extended period of time, remove all the batteries. Old or leaking battery can cause damage to the unit and will also void the warranty.
  • Do not dispose of battery in fire. Battery may leak or explode.
  • Battery shall not be exposed to excessive heat, such as sunshine, fire or the like.

CAUTION
Danger of explosion if batteries are incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type.

Note
When the unit is plugged into an AC outlet, it automatically switches to AC power source even if batteries are installed.

LISTENING TO THE RADIO

  1. Use the FUNCTION SELECTOR (#2) to select the AM or FM band.
  2. Switch the ON/OFF SWITCH (#3) to ON position to turn on the unit.
  3. Use the TUNING KNOB (#4) to tune to your desired radio station.
  4. Adjust the VOLUME CONTROL (#1) to the desired volume level.
  5. Switch the ON/OFF SWITCH (#3) to OFF position to turn off the unit when you finish listening.

TIPS FOR BEST RECEPTION:
AM – The AM antenna is located inside the cabinet of the unit. If AM reception is weak,
change the position of unit until the internal antenna picks up the strongest signal. FM – To ensure maximum FM tuner reception, fully extend the FM TELESCOPIC ANTENNA (#8) and rotate it for the best FM radio reception.

BLUETOOTH OPERATION

Pairing a Bluetooth enabled device with the SB2003BT.

  1. Use the FUNCTION SELECTOR (#2) to select the Bluetooth function.
  2. Switch the ON/OFF SWITCH (#3) to ON position to turn on the unit.
  3. The BLUETOOTH INDICATOR (#6) below the FUNCTION SELECTOR (#2) will turn on and flash.
  4. Turn on the Bluetooth function of your device and enable the search or scan function to find the SB2003BT.
  5. Select SB2003BT from the device list when it appears on your device screen. If required, enter the pass code “0000” to pair (link) SB2003BT with your device.
  6. If you are pairing (linking) your computer to the speaker using Bluetooth, you may need to set the SB2003BT as your computer’s default sound device.
  7. After pairing SB2003BT with your Bluetooth device successfully, the BLUETOOTH INDICATOR (#6) will light steadily.
  8. If you want SB2003BT change to pair with another Bluetooth device, turn off the Bluetooth on the paired Bluetooth device, the BLUETOOTH INDICATOR (#6) of SB2003BT will change to flashing slow, repeat step 4-5 above.
    Note: The SB2003BT may automatically reconnect to a previously linked device that is in range.

Now you can play music from your Bluetooth device wirelessly to SB2003BT.

  1. Selecting your favorite song, press Play/Pause Button on your Bluetooth device to play or pause the Bluetooth device playback.
  2. Slowly adjust both the volume controls of your SB2003BT and your Bluetooth device until you reach a comfortable listening level.

Notes:

  1. Refer to the manual of your cell phone, tablet PC, computer or other Bluetooth enabled devices for Bluetooth operation since it may vary from model to model.
  2. If your Bluetooth enabled device does not support A2DP profile, it will not play the music through the speaker, even if paired (linked).
  3.  Remember to turn off the SB2003BT when you have finished listening.
  4. Don’t forget to switch off the power of your Bluetooth device as well.

USING HEADPHONES (NOT INCLUDED)

Inserting the plug of your headphones into the HEADPHONES JACK (#10) will enable you to listen to the Radio music in private. When using headphones, the Built-in Speakers will be disconnected.

CAUTION:

  • Avoid excessive volume levels for long period of time when using the earphones. Prolonged use at high levels may impair your hearing.
  • Keep the volume at a reasonable level even if your headset is an open-air type designed to allow you to hear outside sounds. Please note that excessively high volume may still block outside sounds.

AUX IN OPERATION

This unit provides an auxiliary audio signal input jack for connecting external audio devices like MP3 players, CD players, smart phones and iPods (except iPod shuffle 3rd generation) to listen to your external source through the speakers of this system.

  1. You need an audio cable (not included) with one 3.5 mm stereo plug on each end of the cable.
  2. Plug one end of the cable into the AUX IN JACK (#11) located on the right hand side of the unit and the other end of the cable into the Line-out Jack or Headphone Jack of your external audio device.
  3. Turn on the external audio device.
  4. Turn on your unit and it will switch to AUX mode automatically.
  5. The volume level can now be controlled through the volume control of your radio. Operate all other functions on the auxiliary device as usual.
  6. Switch the ON/OFF SWITCH (#3) to OFF position to turn off the unit when you finish listening.

Notes:

  • If you connected the Line-out Jack of your external device then you only need to adjust the volume control of this unit. If you connected the Headphone Jack of your external device then you may need to adjust both the volume control of your external device and the volume control of this unit to find the most desirable volume setting.
  • Remove the audio cable from AUX IN JACK (#11) when you finish listening. Don’t forget to switch off the power on your external device as well.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE

Symptom Possible Cause Solution
Noise or sound distorted on AM or FM broadcast. –  Station not tuned properly

for AM or FM.

–  FM: Telescopic antenna is not extended.

–  AM: The bar antenna is not positioned correctly.

| –  Retune the AM or FM broadcast station.

–  Fully extend the FM telescopic antenna.

–  Reposition the unit until the best reception is obtained.

AM or FM no sound.| –  Unit not set to AM or FM band.

–  Volume at minimum.

| –  Switch the function selector to AM or FM position.

–  Increase Volume.

No sound on Bluetooth| –              The unit is not linked with the cell phone.

–              Speaker placement out of range.

–              Volume set too low

| –              Go through “Bluetooth Operations” process to link the speakers.

–              Relocate the speaker within Bluetooth operating range

–              Rotate the volume knob to turn the sound level up.

Sound is distorted on Bluetooth| –              Volume level is set too high.



–              Sound source is distorted.

| –              If the cell-phone original sound source quality is poor, distortion and noise are easily noticed with high-power speakers.

–              If you are using an external sound source like older generation of iPod, try reducing the output volume on the device itself.
