Introduction

Thank you for selecting an EdgeVis BW600 live streaming body worn camera. This guide will describe the configuration and general usage of the BW600.

Inserting a SIM Card

The BW600 requires a nano-SIM card. The SIM card slot is situated underneath the battery. The front case panel and the battery must be removed to access the SIM card.

  1. Follow the instructions in the Battery Replacement section to remove the battery.
  2. The SIM card slot has a locking tray. Slide the tray to the right to unlock. The tray can then be lifted upwards from the left side.
  3. Insert a nano-SIM card into the SIM slot. Check that the notch on the SIM card aligns with the notch on the bottom left of the slot.
  4. Make sure that the SIM card fits within the slot then close the tray. Lock the tray by sliding it to the left. Do not force the tray. If it does not slide easily then open the tray again and check that the SIM card is sitting correctly.
  5. Once the tray has been closed and locked, continue the  instructions in the Battery Replacement section to reinstall the battery and the front case panel.

Battery Replacement

The battery in the BW600 is replaceable. This may be necessary after the camera has been in continuous use for more than a year. The standard battery is rated for 500 charge-discharge cycles.

  1. Power off the BW600.
  2. Turn the camera so the LCD screen is facing upwards.
  3. Remove the 8 rubber bungs covering the screw holes (tweezers or a SIM card removal pin work well).
  4. Unscrew the 8 screws using a T5 Torx screwdriver. Take care while doing so to ensure screws are not lost if they fall out.
  5. Once all screws have been loosened carefully pull on the front case panel to remove it. The panel is tightly fitted. The recommendation is to work around the sides then the corners of the front case to release it. Once released the front case panel can be set aside. If the case panel does not come off easily then check that there are no screws still holding the front panel in place. The front case panel can be broken if force is applied while screws are still holding it in place.
  6. The battery compartment will be visible beneath the front case panel. The battery can be removed by lifting it from each side.
  7. When fitting a new battery check that the battery terminals are clean and do not have any protective covering in place. Align the battery terminals with the terminals in the BW600 battery compartment and lightly push down on the battery until it slots into place.
  8. To replace the front case panel, first check that the rubber seal around the inner side of the front panel is intact and held in place. Align the front case panel with the BW600 and carefully press down on each corner until a click is heard.
  9. Replace and tighten all 8 screws. Do not overtighten the screws. Screws should be hand tight (maximum torque 5nm).
  10. Replace the 8 rubber bungs in the screw holes.

Mounting the camera

The BW600 is supplied with two mounting options:

  1. Crocodile clip
  2. KlickFast™ Adapter for connection to standard KlickFast™ mounts.

Attaching the Crocodile Clip:

  1. Turn the camera so the LCD screen is facing upwards. The U shaped mount is above the LCD screen.
  2. Align the metal clip of the crocodile clip with the camera mount, then slide the clip downwards until it clicks into place. The centre of the clip should engage with the notch on the back of the BW600.
  3. Check that the clip is securely mounted on the camera before attaching it to any clothing.

Attaching the KlickFast Adapter:

The KlickFast adapter is designed to always remain connected to the camera once it has been fitted. Removing the KlickFast adapter from the camera multiple times is not covered under warranty and will cause the adapter to become loose over time.

  1. Turn the camera so the LCD screen is facing upwards. The U shaped mount is above the LCD screen.
  2. Align the KlickFast adapter with the camera mount, then slide it downwards until it clicks into place. The centre of the clip should engage with the notch on the back of the BW600. It may be necessary to press on the centre pin of the adapter to make it engage with the notch on the BW600.
  3. To connect the camera to a standard KlickFast mount rotate the camera until it is upside down. Align the KlickFast stud on the camera with the KlickFast mount then pull downwards until the camera clicks into place. Rotate the camera until it is upright. Then check that the camera is securely mounted.

How to Assign a camera

The BW600 can be assigned to an operator by:

  1. Tapping the operator’s ID card on an RFID reader; or
  2. By assigning the camera from VideoVault

BW600 cameras must be placed in a docking station, must be connected to VideoVault and available for assignment. A camera is available for assignment if:

  • It has completed uploading all recordings from any previous usage.
  • Battery has been charged for the minimum time-period (this is a  configurable setting in VideoVault)
  • The camera is in an unassigned state.

RFID Camera Assignment

  1. Tap the ID card against the card reader. Note that the ID card must have already been registered and associated with the Operator’s account in VideoVault. 3 beep sounds from the card reader indicate that the card has been read successfully but there is no account associated with it. 2 beep sounds indicate that a camera has been assigned.
  2. The assigned camera will show a flashing white light to assist with locating it. The camera selected for assignment will be based on the current state of cameras in the pool. The same camera will not be assigned every time.
  3. Remove the assigned camera from the docking station by pulling it upwards.
  4. The screen on the camera will update and show the camera viewpoint to indicate that it is in operational mode.

VideoVault Camera Assignment

  1. Login to the VideoVault web interface using a valid user account. This may be a different account from the Operator account to be assigned to the camera.

  2. Go to the Devices tab, then select Find Devices. A list of cameras and their current state will be shown.

  3. Identify a suitable camera with a status of “Unassigned”. Select the Assign Camera button.

  4. Enter the name of the Operator account to assign the camera  to then press Return.

  5. The assignment mode options are:
    a. Single Use: The camera is to be assigned to this operator on a temporary basis (for example, for the
    Operator’s shift). When the camera is docked, charged and has completed uploading all recordings it will be available for assignment again.
    b. Permanent Use: The camera is assigned permanently to this operator, or until it is manually returned to the unassigned pool. In this mode the camera will not be available for assignment to other operators while it is docked. Once assigned, the camera can be removed from the docking station at any point and it will retain the existing operator assignment.
    c. Permanent allocation: This option is not currently supported on BW600.

  6. The Device Profile setting defines the settings to be applied to the camera. The settings will have been defined by the System Administrator.

  7. Press the Assign Camera button. The assigned camera will show a flashing white light to assist with locating it.

  8. Remove the assigned camera from the docking station by pulling it upwards.

  9. The screen on the camera will update and show the camera viewpoint to indicate that it is in operational mode.

SAR Information Statement

The product is designed and manufactured not to exceed the emission limits for exposure to radiofrequency (RF) energy set by the Federal Communications Commission of the U.S. Government. These limits are part of comprehensive guidelines and establish permitted levels of RF energy for the general population. The guidelines are based on standards that were developed by independent scientific organizations through periodic and thorough evaluation of scientific studies. The standards include a substantial safety margin designed to assure the safety of all persons, regardless of age and health. The exposure standard for wireless mobile phones employs a unit of measurement known as the Specific Absorption Rate, or SAR. The SAR limit set by the FCC is 1.6 W/kg. Tests for SAR are conducted with the product transmitting at its highest certified power level in all tested frequency bands. Although the SAR is determined at the highest certified power level, the actual SAR level of the product while operating can be well below the maximum value. In general, the closer you are to a wireless base station antenna, the lower the power output. Body-worn Operation

This device was tested for typical body-worn operations. To comply with RF exposure requirements, a minimum separation distance of 10mm is used between the user’s body and the handset, including the antenna. Third-party belt- clips, holsters, and similar accessories used by this device should not contain any metallic components. Body-worn accessories that do not meet these requirements may not comply with RF exposure requirements and should be avoided. Use only the supplied or an approved antenna.
