  1. Refer to FIG. A for assembly. Determine a suitable, well lit location to place your CabKing-6V3. The machine weighs about 60lbs. A sturdy table and surface is required that has 3 feet width by 2 feet depth of clear space.
  2. Open the box and remove all loose foam and accessories. Keep this packaging aside should you need it in the future. Remove the unit from the box by lifting the machine straight up by its baseboard and place on the predetermined location. Do not lift the machine by its hoods or lamp. We recommend that two people help in performing this step. As an option, you can keep the foam that is under the baseboard in place as it will aid in support and vibration. Please note that the baseboard has a rectangular rubber on the bottom so the machine will not sit completely flat.
  3. Check to make sure all parts are present both on the machine and in the accessory box according to the parts list on pages 6 and 7. If you find any missing or damaged parts, call us direct at 630-366-6129 or email us at info@cabking.com.
  4. To complete the left wheel assembly, you need to install the 80# and 220# grinding wheels that are included in your accessory box. Do this by removing the lap adapter on the left shaft with the supplied flange wrench, turning clockwise. Remove the two 3/4″spacers. Leave the 1″ spacer on the shaft. Slide the 220# wheel onto the left shaft, ribbed side facing the motor. Then slide the two 3/4″ spacers on next. Finish by sliding the 80# wheel onto the left shaft, ribbed side facing the motor, and tighten the lap adapter, turning counter-clockwise using the flange wrench. Upon completion of the left wheel assembly set-up, there should be two 3/4″ spacers between the 80# and 220# wheels and one 1″ spacer between the 220# and 280# wheels.
  5. Place the clear stone trays on top of the right and left hoods. The stone trays are usedto hold your stones and work pieces. Insert the hand rests into the drip pans and slidethe splash guards on to both sides of the drip pans. Adjust the position of the splashguards according to the splash.
  6. Optionally, attach the side panels to the hoods. They magneticallyattach for easy installation. Install one side panel on the left hood andthe other on the right hood, furthest from the motor (FIG. B). Simplymove the black side spray tube upwards to attach and remove theside panels. These side panels help control the water splash, howevernot installing them provides asier access to the diamond lap andcanvas pad.

SETTING UP THE WATER SYSTEM

The CabKing-6V3 water system is single-pass system, meaning not re- circulating. DO NOT SET-UP THE WATER SYSTEM AS A RE-CIRCULATING SYSTEM. Read further about the CabKing water system on page 16 after setup.

  1. Connect the clear drip pan tubing to the rear spout of the drip pans (FIG. C)CABKING-6V3 -6--Inch -Cabbing -Machine -7. Secure the connection by positioning the spring clasp so it covers the spouts. Tug on the tubes lightly to make sure they are secured.
  2. Place the unconnected ends of the drip pan tubes into a large, five gallon empty bucket (not included, FIG. D),CABKING-6V3 -6--Inch -Cabbing -Machine -8 drain hole, or wherever you would like the dirty water from the pans to drain out. It is important that you have the drip pan tubes pointing downward from the machine. This will allows gravity to drain the water from the drip pans. If you notice the pans filling up with water, most likely the drain tubes are not sufficiently angled downward. Tilt the drip pans up and shake the tubing to drain. Once you have this properly setup, you can cut the tubing so there is no excess slack. This will further help to drain the pans.
  3. MAKE SURE WATER PUMP IS NOT CONNECTED TO POWER SUPPLY. Remove the protective backing from the T-junction (found behind the motor) and place the sticky, adhesive side to the baseboard behind the motor, on either side of the lamp (FIG. E).CABKING-6V3 -6--Inch -Cabbing -Machine -9 Insert the clear tube from the T-Junction into the water pump (FIG. F). CABKING-6V3 -6--Inch -Cabbing -Machine -10Lightly tug on the tubes to make sure they are secured. Place the water pump in a separate, large five gallon bucket (not included) filled fully with clean water. The length from the bucket to the unit should not be more than 6 feet.

FINAL ASSEMBLY

  1. Twist the water control knobs located on the left and right hoods to the off position. Twist the two side valves on the side spray tubes to the off position. When the black arrow on the side valves are pointed to the left, they are in the off position.
  2. The motor power cord has a built-in GFCI Safety Adapter Plug. GFCI safety plugs are highly recommended to prevent electric shock. Connect the motor power cord into an outlet. Though the motor is sealed, you must make sure to keep all electrical connections dry.
  3. Attach the lamp power cord and water pump to a surge protected power outlet. The pump has no on/off switch so once you connect it to the power supply, it will start working. ALWAYS UNPLUG WATER PUMP FROM POWER SOURCE WHEN NOT IN USE. Avoid touching the water pump in the water bucket with the power on. NEVER UNPLUG OR TOUCH THE POWER CORDS WITH WET HANDS.
  4. Adjust the two clear wheel splash guards on the hoods so that the wheels do not make contact with them. MAKE SURE THE WHEELS ARE NOT IN CONTACT WITH ANY PARTS BEFORE TURNING ON THE MACHINE, THE WHEELS MUST SPIN FREELY. You can now turn on the machine. The wheels spin at 1800RPM. It is typical for the motor to produce a winding sound when starting up, and a mild humming sound when turned off. On some occasions, the motor may make a high pitch sound. This is most likely caused by the space between the unit and the table surface. You can reduce the sound by putting a cloth under the unit. WHEN TURNING THE MACHINE OFF, THE WHEELS COAST TO A STAND STILL.
  5. Start the water drip by turning the water control knobs to the on position. Do not turn all of them on at once or you will waste too much water. We suggest turning one on at a time while you work on that wheel. Our unique water system allows you to drip water on each wheel individually. You can adjust the water flow rate to your preference with the water control knobs. While in use, make sure there is enough water dripping so that the wheels do not become dry. NEVER RUN THE WHEELS DRY. To use the side spray for the canvas pad or diamond disc, turn to page 12.
  6. You are now ready to begin use the CabKing-6V3. READ THE REST OF THIS INSTRUCTION MANUAL, ESPECIALLY THE SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS, BEFORE USE TO AVOID RISK OF INJURY.

Important note: Registering your machine with us is required to help facilitate any warranty-related requests. The serial number, which is required to register your machine, is found on the label located on the backside of the motor and on the outside box label. Register your CabKing using the included registration form or online at cabking.com/register.

MACHINE USAGE

CABKING-6V3 -6--Inch -Cabbing -Machine
-11

The CabKing-6V3 is configured with two electroplated diamond wheels, four resin diamond wheels, one full face diamond flat lap and one canvas polishing pad. The direct drive motor on the CabKing-6V3 eliminates belts and other exterior motor parts to maintain or replace. The water system is unique and allows you to independently control the water spray on the wheels. Always use adequate water while in use to avoid running the wheels dry. If the wheels become covered with stone residue, increase the water flow. We recommend wearing the included apron to keep you from getting wet while you work.

Another advantage to our water system is that you can adjust the spray direction on each wheel. This allows you to use wheels of different widths. Do this by locating the y-split, which is located under the hood. Adjust the two nozzles that are inserted into the y-split by twisting to the left or right (FIG. G).

The CabKing-6V3 grinds and polishes all kinds of shapes and designs out of rock, glass, synthetic material and metal. The most popular use is making cabochons. The general process of making a cabochon on the CabKing-6V3 is described below and on page 12.
Grinding — Start with the electroplated diamond wheels on the left shaft to complete the grinding process. The grinding process shapes your cabochon and removes any surface irregularities so the stone can be smoothed and polished. Hold your stone free hand or on a dop stick. Begin with the 80# electroplated diamond wheel. Completely grind the surface of the stone using adequate water. If the stone is not ground thoroughly, scratching will occur. Making sure that all scratches are removed is the most important part of grinding a cabochon. We recommend frequently drying your cabochon with a paper towel or clean rag to reveal the remaining scratches while you work. Repeat this process for the 220# electroplated diamond wheel. Pre-polishing — Once you are done grinding and shaping your cabochon on the electroplated diamond wheels, proceed to the resin wheel sequence. Resin wheels sand and smooth away flat spots, scratches and tiny bumps that are left behind from the grinding wheels in your stone, resulting in a pre-polished cabochon.Important notes: The supplied CabKing resin wheels are formulated to be used exclusively together in sequence. To avoid scratching or uneven grinding/polishing, do not mix and match other brands of resin wheels with the CabKing resin wheels. PLEASE READ THE RESIN WHEEL NOTICES DOCUMENT THAT IS INCLUDED WITH YOUR INSTRUCTION MANUAL. The resin wheel sequence starts with the 280# resin wheel and proceeds to the 600#, 1200# and lastly, the 3000#. Thoroughly grind and smooth your stone on each wheel, moving onto the next wheel when finished. After you complete the resin wheel sequence, your cabochon will be ready for polishing. Adjust the lamp as you work to provide additional light. Polishing — To put the final polish on your stone, attach the included canvas polishing pad by screwing it into the end of the right wheel assembly while the machine is turned off. Using the included 14,000 mesh diamond paste syringe, apply a series of small dots, randomly throughout the pad, starting from the center of the pad, moving to the outer edge of the pad. Using your finger, smear the small dots into the canvas polishing pad. While diamond paste puts a bright, shiny polish on most stones, there are other ways to polish your stones such as using diamond powder or cerium oxide. Now that the canvas polishing pad is charged with the diamond paste, it is ready for use. Most diamond pastes can be used without water however, you may use water while your polishing. To use with water, aim the black side spray tube to the center of the disc. You want to aim the side spray tube to the center of the disc because when the disc is spinning, the water will spread evenly throughout the surface of the canvas polishing pad. Easily adjust the water drip to your preference by moving the black side spray tube and white nozzle to the left or right (FIG. H).

Important note: Only use one mesh per canvas polishing pad. Do not mix different mesh on the same pad or scratching may occur.
If you plan to insert your polished cabochon into a jewelry finding, you will need to put a flat on the backside of your  cabochon. To do this, attach the included full face diamond lap by screwing it into the end of the right wheel assembly while the machine is turned off. The full face diamond lap must be used with water. Just like the canvas polishing pad, aim the black side spray tube to the center of the disc and adjust the water drip to your preference by moving the black side spray tube and white nozzle to the left or right. Important note: The canvas polishing pad and full face diamond lap are to be used on the right shaft ONLY.

THE ART OF CABBING

The art of cabbing involves experimentation, since every stone is different. As you progress, you may find that different grits are necessary depending on your stone and application. Searching the internet or joining local lapidary clubs will help you with your understanding and experience. As with all stone cutting and cab making, practice and experimentation are the keys to success. CABKING-6V3 -6--Inch -Cabbing -Machine -14

MAINTENANCE

View our new video tutorials at cabking.com/tutorials. Watch and learn from the professionals while they show you new machine assembly techniques and offer troubleshooting advice.  The CabKing-6V3 is designed as a maintenance- free unit. There are no belts, pulleys, gears or other parts to actively maintain. However, all parts should be cleaned manually. Changing the wheels — The wheels included with the CabKing-6V3 are 6″ diameter X 1.5″ width with 1″ arbor holes. The CabKing-6V3 only uses wheels with 1″ arbor holes. Color of wheel hub may vary. The wheels are attached onto two assemblies of three wheels each. Each separate assembly is spun onto the left and right side of the motor. The left and right wheel assemblies are shown in FIG. I below. BEFORE REMOVING EITHER WHEEL ASSEMBLY, TURN OFF MACHINE AND WAIT FOR THE WHEELS TO COAST TO A STAND STILL.CABKING-6V3 -6--Inch -Cabbing -Machine
-15

BEFORE REMOVING EITHER WHEEL ASSEMBLY, TURN OFF MACHINE AND WAIT FOR THE WHEELS TO COAST TO A STAND STILL. Slide the clear splash guards into the up position and move the drip pans backwards to remove the hoods. Use the included flange wrench to secure the metal motor shaft flange located on the inside part of the left and right shaft, closest to the motor (FIG. J ).CABKING-6V3 -6--Inch -Cabbing -Machine -16 It is important to secure the motor shaft flange with the flange wrench while completing this step because this prevents the shaft from spinning while you are removing the wheel assembly. With the flange secured, turn the wheels towards you to slide off. Note: Use the extra flange wrench included with your accessories to remove or tighten the wheel assemblies.  Once the wheel assembly is removed from the motor shaft, you can change out the individual wheels. Important note: The wheels on the left and right shafts are removed differently. Disassembling the left wheel assembly — The left wheel assembly is assembled onto an aluminum shaft (FIG. K). CABKING-6V3 -6--Inch
-Cabbing -Machine -17Remove the lap adapter with the flange wrench, turning clockwise. Once the lap adapter is removed, slide the wheels off of the left shaft (these are the 80#, 220# and 280# wheels). The slotted bolt on the end of the lap adapter is used to attach an optional 1/2″ arbor lap (remove bolt by turning clockwise).
Note: Lap adapter may be brass or aluminum.

Disassembling the right wheel assembly — The right wheel assembly is assembled onto an aluminum shaft (FIG. L). Remove the end nut with the flange wrench, turning clockwise. The end nut is located to the left of the 600# resin wheel. Once the end nut is removed, slide the wheels off of the right shaft (these are the 600#, 1200# and 3000# resin wheels).
FIG. L CABKING-6V3 -6--Inch -Cabbing -Machine -18

Change wheels as necessary. Correctly position the wheels using the spacers. Wheels should have roughly 3/4″ gap between them. Make sure the grits are in the correct order and the wheels are secured tightly. Reverse this entire process to put the wheel assemblies back onto the motor shafts and make sure to tighten adequately.

Tightening the motor shaft flange — If you notice that the wheel assemblies are not coming off or that the motor shaft flange is spinning, you need to tighten the motor shaft flange using the included Allen wrench. Take the Allen wrench and insert it into the set-screw located in the motor shaft flange (FIG. M).

Turn clockwise to tighten. FIG. M LED light bulb — The light bulb installed in the lamp is LED and will last a long time. Should you need a replacement, you will need to purchase this LED light bulb directly through us at cabking.com. The LED light bulb installed in the CabKing lamp is specially designed for this machine and can’t be found elsewhere. Written and visual instructions on how to change the LED light bulb will be provided with the replacement bulb. LED bulb specifications: Voltage: 90-240V. Output current: 300Ma. Brightness: 200- 300LM. Bulb style: G5.3 bi-pin base.

CAB KING WATER SYSTEM PARTS

One of the key features to the CabKing-6V3 is the single pass, contamination- free water system. The water system will remain trouble-free as long as you use a fresh, clean supply of water. Do this by using a separate intake water bucket from the drainage bucket. A fresh supply of water will protect you from cross-contamination of grit which can occur in re-circulating systems that use a bubbler or geyser. With fresh water, the pump and intake tubes will stay clean and unobstructed so there will be enough water pressure. The water pump is rated at 30watts, 605GPH, 8.2ftHmax. We recommend using a minimum 5 gallon bucket for both the water pump and drainage. You will typically go through an average of 1-2 gallons of water per hour, with the water control knobs on a light to medium drip. Monitor the water level in the bucket to make sure the water pump is always submerged in water. THE WATER PUMP SHOULD NOT BE RUN DRY. UNPLUG WATER PUMP FROM POWER SOURCE WHEN NOT IN USE.
By design, all water system parts can be easily disassembled by pulling off or unscrewing and cleaned with soapy water. For routine maintenance, keep the nozzles, y-split and tubing clean with a small wire brush or the included pipe cleaner. DO NOT SET-UP THE WATER SYSTEM AS A RE-CIRCULATING SYSTEM. THIS WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY. This means putting the drip pan tubes into the same bucket of water as your water pump. Doing so will void your warranty and you also risk cross-contamination of grit, which may result in scratches on your stone. The grit will eventually build up in the water control valves, nozzles and tubing which will restrict water flow and potentially clog the water system parts. Underneath each hood are three y-splits with two nozzles in each, three needle valves and clear tubing that connects to each needle valve. The clear tubing measures 1/4″ outer diameter X 1/8″ inner diameter. See image below to identify parts.CABKING-6V3 -6--Inch -Cabbing -Machine
